  1. OK, so how do I get it back? There doesn't seem to be an option. When I said arrow, it used to be a cache symbol, but that changed to an arrow about a week ago. Not my doing...
  2. While playing around with the page where the cache location is displayed on Google Maps, I accidently clicked on a link on the left hand side which said "Block images from ...." Didn't see where. Now, I don't get the arrow on the map or aerial photo showing where the cache is located. It also has affected "View Map" on TB's and GC's where the zoom and pan controls have disappeared. Does anyone know how I can get them back?
  3. I am just slightly concerned, hoping that you guys are putting out decent sized caches, otherwise Waymarking.com might possibly be more appropriate for this kind of thing. (Waits to be flamed)
  4. I've just dropped off a TB called Rambling Rosie! See http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.as...0b-8965edbde7ac Can't help with your problem though, sorry.
  5. I think the answer can be found at http://www.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/environ...air-quality.htm
  6. A new cache attribute which I would like to see is "CCTV Cameras". Any cache which I come across which has these darn things pointing at me immediatly gets a DNF (or DNL - did not look)!
  7. Hi Dennis, The first thing I would say is don't make a TB out of anything which is remotely valuable or collectible, or attach any swag to it. If you do that, it will disappear very quickly. Newbie cachers don't always realise that TB's need to be moved on to another cache and logged and their kids are likely to regard them as freebie toys. Goals are OK, but in my experience, most people ignore them. I picked up a geocoin which wanted to stay in Cornwall at the weekend and found it had just been to North Wales! This is where an additional attached laminated card comes in useful, because you see can the TB's goal as soon as you pick it up from a cache. Without that, you wouldn't know it's goal until you got it home and looked on the computer, then it's too late! I learned that the hard way!
  8. Doesn't explain why he doesn't reply to emails though. Language shouldn't be a barrier with all the free on-line translaters around these days.
  9. If you look in the OP's profile and then trackables, you get http://img.geocaching.com/track/b87fb31f-b...a2c941addfe.jpg
  10. I agree entirely. What's the point of adopting and taking over and old tired cache which all the locals within 50 miles have already logged anyway? A steady stream of new ones is what we need to keep this hobby alive.
  11. I think it's about time Groundspeak made it a lot clearer on the cache pages what you need to do if you pick up a TB or geocoin. A flashing reminder or something after you log your visit. Along with the proliferation of new and ignorant cachers who are keen to get going without reading the guidlines properly, many more geocoins and TB's are going missing, simply because the people who pick them up don't know they need to be logged. I have had to chase up three just this week alone...
  12. If I have a good reason to believe that the cache has gone missing, I will definitely log it as a DNF because it will help the cache setter who might want to check it out. However, if I haven't had time to do a thorough search and intend to return to have another go, I would only log a DNF if I still couldn't find it on the second visit. Also, if it's overlooked by houses or CCTV cameras, I don't put much effort into searching, so again, no DNF logged and never to return!
  13. I've been a bit reluctant to tell the truth about poor caches as I see them, and more so recently, when a cache owner posted a critical note on the cache page referring to my comments as "putting people off doing the cache". I had one where the cache was situated on a busy main road, on a dangerous blind bend, where you had to cross over from the lay-by to get to the cache on the other side. When I commented "I hope there's a good hospital nearby", the owner got very nasty. (turns out he was a nurse at said hospital!). Perhaps he was looking for business!
  14. You can update it here - https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloads...145&pID=310 Instructions are at http://thegpstimes.com/2008/02/25/how-to-u...n-gps-firmware/ Mine works fine as it is so I'm of the opinion "If if ain't broke, don't fix it"!
  15. It might be a useful thread for other noobies to read as this point often comes up. Good luck in finding it!
  16. Protocol suggests that you ask the person who set the cache first as they might not be too keen on others giving away the location.
  17. The bottom line is if you didn't sign the log, for whatever reason - it's a DNF!
  18. Simply look at the logs on the cache pages - it's the largest blog in the world!
  19. Something I have noticed, and I'm not sure if that's how the website is designed, but I don't get DNF logs emailed to me. Finds seem to be OK though...
  20. Logged or submitted? Did you get an email back saying your caches will be reviewed shortly? I notice you haven't found any caches yet...
  21. Always tell the truth. I was approached once by an enqiring "muggle" and after making up a story about being interested in the local history, he turned out to be another cacher!
  22. The problem you have is that as you are new to this game, you might not be sure exactly what you are looking for. Noobies have a big enough problem with this even when they use a GPSr. You really need to find a few first so you can recognise the types of hiding places which are used. Try getting a friend to start you off otherwise I fear you will just get frustrated and give up. Once you have found a few hundred, you might be able to dispense with your GPSr, but by then you will love it too much to do that!
  23. If you search using the map on your profile page, you will see just how many caches there are in a particular area. Just drag the map to the area you are interested in. The PQ search results should be isotropic. When I plot the results on Memory Map they certainly appear to be. I generally set up three PQ's in a triangle around my home location. If you limit each one to 300 caches, you can fit them all into your GPSr with room to spare for additional manually set waypoints, although some will overlap.
