  1. To claim the cache, you need to satisfy the requirements stated on the cache page ie: Email the answers to certain questions to the owner and upload a photo or yourself or your GPSr at the site.
  2. You just need to be organised. All TB's and coins which I pick up are kept in a special section of my caching bag, and never put anywhere else. That way, they never get forgotten or lost. After all, they are someone else's property so you have a duty to look after them. Out of the 676 coins and TB's I have moved on, I can claim to have never lost one.
  3. When I try that, I just get a result like 51.377318,-0.518107. How can I get the proper WSG84 co-ords?
  4. Thanks tiiiim. That's great. Shows all the trig-points too!
  5. That works great thanks, but it still shows many Gloucestershire caches as being in Avon - which doesn't exist any more. My original question remains. Anyone got a good modern map?
  6. The only maps I can find on there are for the USA...My version is 3.8.03. Don't know if a later version is any better?
  7. I know this debate has been brought up before, but can anybody point me to an accurate map which shows the current county boundaries between Somerset, Bristol and Gloucestershire which includes towns and villages? I am trying to work out how many caches I have found in each county, but since Avon was abolished, each web-page I look at seems to give a different result as to the current county borders. The INATN site is not much use either as the last 18 caches I did in what I though was Gloucestershire simply went into the "Uncalculated" stats area and it only show 6 found for that county.
  8. Look at the "adding an image" post below...
  9. If the cache is physically challenging in any way and the setter requires the log-book to be signed in order for the smiley to be claimed, they should say so on the cache page, then there's no argument!
  10. Whatever you decide on, get one which has a SIRF chip. They work under trees where others won't.
  11. When I first started caching, I was signing the log, when I heard some horses approaching, so quicky bundled the cache back into into it's hidey-hole and tried to look innocent by taking some photos down the lane. A surley old biddy on a horse came up and asked me what I was taking pictures of. I made up some story about the area being of historic interest and I needed some photos for my research. The response was "That's strange, I was born in that house over there and I have lived here all my life. I wasn't aware of anything historical about the area. Tell me about it" DOH! Since then, I've always aimed to tell the truth - if necessary, BUT, I always bear in mind that it could be the landowner who has approached me and it may not be in the cache-setters interest for him to know!
  12. One thing to be careful about, especially if you use one of the automatic stats generators that GSAK or Cachestats can produce - don't enter any caches retrospectivly because it screws the whole thing up. I found out the hard way after entering some logs for a few YOSM sites (GC45CC) which I had previously visited but hadn't known I could log them at the time.
  13. I tried to find my first cache without a GPSr, by just using OS maps. This approach failed miserably, so I bought a GPSr and confidently set off. It was only when I got to the area where the cache was that I found that it didn't appear on the screen. It was only then that I realised that I needed to enter the co-ords before I set off!
  14. I have used a GPSMap60CSx for the past three years and I have no desire whatsoever to upgrade to another device. It's very accurate and works under trees where other unit's won't.
  15. I just noticed this on the download page: NOTICE: As you may know, the January site changes at Geocaching.com broke most of the scripts. That might explain it!
  16. Don't mention it to Achaos though! He thinks it's cheating... Well I installed the add-on, now I can't decrypt the hints at all!
  17. Also, I don't think they should not be used in micro logs as they take up too much space. I did one at the weekend where signatures were neatly written on the first six lines, then there was a great big stamp which took up the next ten! A bit selfish in my opinion.
  18. £350 for a "Design & Construction of Intermediate Theta Geo-Cache course, consisting of 10 geo-caches plus 2 contingency caches". Who are they trying to kid?
  19. When you realise that throwing a film-pot in the hedge or under the ivy lacks imagination!
  20. Good idea, but it's not supposed to be competitive.
  21. I think you will find that it's just human nature and it's not just specific to this forum. I also dip into to several others as I do have other interests and it's just the same on those too.
