No - in fact, it would be a terrible idea. There are tens (hundreds?) of thousands of cache owners out there, each with their own different personal opinions and preferences about anything under the sun and moon; if each one gets to allow or disallow a find as they wish at any particular point in time, it will lead to absolute chaos. The point of rules is that they are the same for everyone, and they have worked pretty well for 20 years.

Das Wörtchen „dies“ meint die Aussage, „die Folgen der Behandlung dürfen nicht schlimmer sein als die der Krankheit“, nicht mehr und nicht weniger. Wenn du daraus anscheinend ableitest, daß mir der Tod von Individuen gleichgültig wäre, dann nimm bitte zur Kenntnis, daß dies nur in deinem Kopf so ist, wie auch alles andere, was du von mir zu wissen glaubst (s.o.). Und mach dir bitte klar, daß es auch bei den Folgen der Einschränkungen wegen Covid um Individuen geht, deren Existenz, Einkommen, Perspektive, Rechte usw. auf dem Spiel stehen. Wieviel Tote das letztendlich kosten wird, werden wir leider alle herausfinden. Und wenn du dich mit dem empörten Hinweis auf die Corona-Toten um die Abwägung des einen gegen das andere herumdrücken möchtest, machst du es dir zu einfach.

Bei dir finde ich leider keins. Ende von mir in deine Richtung.

Das ist nicht irgendwas böses, kapitalistisches, sondern das, was uns alle am Leben erhält, was auch für Schwestern, Ärzte, Rettungsdienste, Krankenhäuser, und für dein Essen bezahlt. Denk mal drüber nach, gerne auch etwas länger. ...und was deine Erwähnung des „Herrn T. aus den U.“ angeht: Hauptsache, das Feindbild ist intakt, nicht wahr?

Dass es für etwas einen Fachbegriff (und einen Wikipedia-Artikel) gibt, heißt nicht, daß es kein völliger Unfug ist. Wie wäre es stattdessen mit diesem Grundsatz: die Folgen der Behandlung dürfen nicht schlimmer sein als die der Krankheit - dies bezieht sich nicht auf einzelne Menschen, sondern auf die Gesellschaft und die Wirtschaft als Ganzes. Was es bedeutet, wenn gegen diesen Grundsatz verstossen wird, erleben viele schon jetzt; wenn so weitergemacht wird, werden es bald noch viel mehr sein.

Ach, ich glaube gar nicht, daß irgendein böser Wille dahintersteckt - bei Experten wie Virologen sowie denen, die fürs Regelaufstellen und -einhalten verantwortlich sind, eher der Wunsch, sich den Job so einfach wie möglich zu machen; und das geht am besten, wenn alle immer zu Hause bleiben. Das dadurch Geocaching erschwert wird, ist tatsächlich für niemanden ein Problem - das wirkliche Problem ist, daß dabei die Wirtschaft draufgeht. Viele haben schon Kurzarbeit, und wenn so weitergemacht wird, bald gar keinen Job mehr. Denjenigen, an denen die schwerste Arbeit und das größte Risiko hängenbleibt, nämlich Schwestern, Pflegern, Ärzten, Angestellten in der Grundversorgung, wird dabei nicht mal geholfen.

Die ersten beiden Punkte gelten für bestehende Caches genauso wie für neu veröffentlichte. Ja, der FTF übt für viele einen starken Reiz aus - für nicht wenige ist das unter anderem auch etwas, was den Reiz des Spiels insgesamt ausmacht. Und warum sollten Spaziergänge unterbleiben? Diese werden auf den einschlägigen Corona-Informationsseiten sogar empfohlen, auch in Ländern mit Ausgangssperre - die z.B. in NDS gar nicht besteht. Nach meiner Erfahrung stimmt die ständig wiederholte Behauptung überhaupt nicht, daß neuveröffentlichte Caches zu FTF-Massenaufläufen führen. Bei den fast allen (>95%) meiner FTFs war ich allein, wenn überhaupt, treffe ich auf einen weiteren Cacher oder vielleicht ein Zweierteam. Dagegen gibt es bestehende Caches, die typischerweise in Gruppen angegangen werden, z.B. T5, für die schon aus Sicherheitsgründen sich Teams zusammenfinden; populäre Runden, die oft in Gruppen angegangen werden - eine solche liegt praktisch bei mir vor der Haustür, und ich sehe das beinahe täglich; überregional bekannte Caches mit vielen Favoritenpunkten, für die Leute in Gruppen von weit her anreisen, neue Caches, die in Verbindung mit Events oder aus privaten Anlässen gelegt werden usw. usf. Ich kann die Argumentation für den Veröffentlichungsstopp nicht nachvollziehen. Wer nicht rausgehen möchte, Dinge nicht anfassen will, nicht Geocachen möchte, kann es gerne lassen. Für die anderen ist eine willkommene, ja notwendige Gelegenheit, der aufgezwungenen häuslichen Enge zu entkommen, und sich in der Natur zu erholen. Wer keine Anreize dafür schaffen will, sollte das Spiel gleich abschaffen, und dann sicherheitshalber auch alle anderen Freizeitaktivitäten - Angeln, Jagen, ...

Remember, even if a cache is disabled, if it is in place, you can still legitimately find and log it. If your log is deleted, you can appeal to Groundspeak, and most likely, your log will be reinstated - it helps if you have photo proof. Stay healthy and safe, and thank you for what you‘re doing.

I disagree. What matters is not whether a CO wants to „send a message“, but what the actual situation at the cache location is. If the cache was placed with permission of the landowner, and the landowner has subsequently retracted the permission, closed the land for public access or whatever, such that the cache cannot be accessed without trespassing, that may be grounds for deleting logs. The CO should remove the cache, if possible, and the listing may have to be archived. If there is a general lockdown in force, but authorities permit leaving the home and hiking in the woods for recreational purposes, I see no problem with logging a find if the cache is in place, no matter if it‘s disabled or not. If the cache owner happens to adhere to a religion that forbids all physical activity on the Holy Day of Festivus because the supreme being or Most exalted Flying Spaghetti Monster demands it, he / she may want to send a message to that effect by disabling the cache, but that has no import on other cachers; a legitimate find stands, and no logs can be deleted. It‘s the cache seekers responsibility to decide if they can access a cache legally and without endangering themselves or others; after all, they stand to be fined / prosecuted if they break the law. Especially in the current situation, we don‘t need individual cache owners, social media influencers or whomever to “send messages“ and impose arbitrary rules. Imposing and enforcing rules is the authorities‘ responsibility, and the cachers responsibility is to stay informed about the rules and the situation on the ground, and to make responsible decisions.

Mhm, an opinion piece from the „Lifestyle“ section, written by the „Social media and trending reporter“... „sensible“ and „logic“ are not words I would associate with that article. Nevertheless, governments in most regions as reported here seem to take a „kill the economy now, worry about the consequences later“ approach. Those in charge appear to want to outmatch each other with more restrictive measures; do they realise they are gambling with people‘s livelihoods? What if in a few weeks time people crawl out from the toilet paper forts in their homes, and find out they have no employer, no job and no income? I do not want to advocate reckless behaviour, or underestimate risks; all I‘m looking for is some weighing of risks, costs and benefits - anything other than hype, fear and panic.

That doesn‘t make sense at all... why does traveling in your vehicle pose an infection risk, unless you travel somewhere to meet up with other people? Burdening the emergency services by... hiking? Assuming by „hiking“ we don‘t mean Frodo‘s quest or something...

Thanks, interesting article. The problem: crowded parking lots... On the other hand, expecting people to remain holed up at home (for weeks? months??) poses its own risks, including health risks as well... My take on it: this shows people want to go outside, and simply taking this option away by closing everything, telling everybody to go away is the government doing very poorly by its citizens. The government throws up its hands, says „go somewhere else“... but where? On the other hand, if people can‘t use government land, at least one can lay off or furlough most of the park service staff, and put the money / staff to better use eg in health care / hospitals. Set up improvised hospitals on park lands, maybe? “Flatten the curve“ : I don‘t think it will work at all, and everything considered, it may even make things much, much worse, but that‘s a different discussion altogether.

I can see how this aligns with the more restrictive measures imposed in the UK (lockdown) v Germany (contact restriction). What is the view of authorities towards e.g. going outside to exercise (by oneself); is this prohibited or permitted as essential activity?

Thanks for the info about the „FTF hunt“ reasoning which was dropped from the announcement for Northern Germany. That is at least a reason; if it‘s a good enough one, can be debated... I think the benefit of offering more incentives to go outside in times when many are restricted to staying at home (for good reasons otherwise) outweighs the low risk of additional exposure. I have to be honest, I‘m not really comfortable when people (the reviewers, in that case) impose rules on others (the cache owners and cache seekers) outside of their mandate (which is to review and publish caches), especially if those rules go over and above the rules imposed by those actually in charge of rulemaking (the authorities and elected officials)... just my opinion.
