  1. We make these and toss them into each cache that we plant: First Find Badge
  2. This appeared in alt.rec.geocaching. I did a whois, and it may not be bull ... the DNS specified is, in fact, abnormal.com. The Admin and other contacts are a bit obscure. I'll leave it up to someone else to follow-up if they are interested. "Tim Hogard" <thogard@abnormal.com> wrote in message news:<bdm142$ght$1@knotty.abnormal.com>... > I got the domain geocache.org several years ago and never had time > to properly do anything with it. 3. I dunno ... the TB goal was to get out of the country to hide. Sometimes one gets what one wants.
  4. My opinion is that people who have lost travel bugs (myself included) just need to forget about it and move on. Releasing a travel bug and telling the world (on the Internet) where it can be found might be similar to giving a golf ball to a duffer on the first tee and asking him to return it after the 18th hole ... just a matter of luck, and the odds are not good. I've seen postings about releasing the "copy" bug, but have not seen postings about what might happen if the original re-appears. That would seem to have dire consequences in the database.
  5. The only comment I have is that "he" is pretty large. Many cache boxes would not be able to house him.
  6. Just got back from a trip last nite myself ... plotted the flight from Paris to San Francisco on a polar route. GPSr told me when to look out the window to see points of interest like Iceland, Greenland, and the Canadian NW Territories. Anything to keep one's self amused during a seemingless endless 11.5 hour flight
  7. To help a TB whose mission was to see the world, I moved it from Hawaii to Switzerland. By my GPS, it moved more than 9,000 miles. According to the history of the TB, the move was (only) 7,692.35 N. How is travel distance for a bug computed?
  8. The Benchmarks listed on "My Cache Page" show Date and the PID. The request, for some future release, would be to also list the BM Designation. It's a bit difficult to identify a particular BM to get back to it to post an image, modify description, etc. TIA
  9. quote:Originally posted by Renegade Knight:Hunters look for game. Game moves. Caches don't. ...clip... CachERs move and, if they happen to be wearing "game colored" clothing, it could be a bit "gamey". The red vest/hat could be useful
  10. Example: At the top of a smokestack. Is taking/posting a photo o.k., or is it necessary to climb to the top of the smokestack?
  11. quote:Originally posted by ceek:...clip... if anywone can tell me what they have found to be the most useful, i would really appreciated it. Thanks I find the "Turn" field on a nav-screen is quite helpful, especially when you are near a cache. When you walk back-and-forth in the area, it gives you an indication whether it's left or right of your position.

    cache page audit

I'm pretty new to GeoCaching and was not aware of the MO features. Whatever the case, I still think I will manually log-on each time I need to do tasks that require it. Reason (stated by Jeremy above) "We'll most likely be including an audit function in all caches owned by premium members in the future. This will be incorporated as we move to .net" This would seem to imply that "premium members" would be able to see and ident visitors to non-MO caches (if they were logged-in). Thanks for the clarification.

    cache page audit

I do IT for a living and am very sensitive about privacy because I know the magnitude of damage that can be done. I'm pretty sure they won't be able to do any detailed monitoring (other than IP address) if the visitor is not logged-on to geocache.com. I am turning-off my automatic logon.
  14. Would it be possible to add one additional data field on the posting forms? GPS Brand/Model
  15. I know GeoCache coordinates are only as accurate as that recorded by the creator of the cache. I'm beginning to wonder whether Garmins are more precise to Garmins, and Magellans to Magellans. Of caches I've visited, I've found that the coordinates are either spot-on or 8-10 yards off. Any research or experience on this?
  16. Has anyone tried this new product? If so, can you comment on the accuracy of the basemap?
  17. I uploaded with no problems ... the version for the SporTrak Map is 4.03, not 4.02 (Which I believe is for Meridian). Also, although I don't know if there really is a difference, there are different images for Map and Pro. I just made sure and loaded the one indicated for the Map. good luck on the upgrade.
