  1. The OP asked "what's the best free download to INSTALL ONTO MY GPS". GSAK (and the other programs mentioned in this thread) WON'T do that. The "answers" provided in this thread aren't valid answers to the question. And this is far from the only thread where "just use GSAK" has been tossed about where it WON'T do what the OP asked. Why keep defending people spreading mis-information?
  2. Just answering the question doesn't do anything to try and stop the idiots who keep recommending GSAK for stuff that it CAN'T do. Perhaps if those idiots would take the time to read people questions and quit blindly saying "just use GSAK" the problem would go away. As to my own recommendation, I didn't make any because I don't know of any software that'll do what the OP asked.
  3. Phoenix covers a bit of territory, but when I was out last, I was in the downtown area, near the new convention center. If you use THIS CACHE as a center point for a search, you should be able to find some hiking caches. It was too hot when I was there for long hikes, so I stuck to stuff close to the road, but there are a bunch of other caches out there, and it was too bad of a ride from "downtown".
  4. What's really rude is people recommeding fee based software everytime somes asks a question about software. It's one thing if the software will actually do what the person wants, but to recommend a fee based program that WON'T actually do what the person wants is extremely rude. Seems pretty clear I'm on the side that's sick of seeing GSAK recommended all the time even for stuff it CAN'T do. That's nothing new, unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a solution to that problem.
  5. Or, a better idea, clear up all the confusion and list the date simply as 22 OCT 2006. Then, anyone should be able to easily figure it out.
  6. If the cache moved several miles, you SHOULD have left the old cache archived and created new pages for the new caches. Your reviewer SHOULD have told you that, too.
  7. Most of the other replies did not address the fact that you will be in Mexico. None of the topo packages above cover Mex. Delorme Street Atlas does - but not topo. It's cheap enough that you could buy one ad check the detail. Street Atlas sorta does, but not useful. I just checked, and Street Atlas 2007 only shows Mexican data (roads, towns, etc) at zoom 6 or farther out. Also, routing doesn't seem to work for Mexico. For reference, at zoom level 6 the entire state of PA as well as NJ and parts of MD, DE and NY are visible on my monitor. That's not really useful for finding your way around. I don't know of anything that's good for Mexico, but then again, I have no intentions of going there and haven't really looked for something, either. There may be something useful out there....
  8. Archive the listing (if you're logged in, it's an option in the box on the upper right of the cache page) and go remove the cache.
  9. But it's the question that was asked. So, my statement stands, you're just pimping GSAk even though it doesn't do what the OP asked/wants.
  10. Wow, you can install GSAK onto a GPS now? Or is this just the typical GSAK flunkies promoting it anytime they feel they can, wether it answers the OP's questions or not?
  11. There's no geocaching.com guidelines that I know of, but the park management may have an issue with it.
  12. I think the cache is a great idea. The cache owner owns the travel bug, so it's not really your concern if he wants it to travel the world, or just the county. The OP's note on the cache page, however, was a terrible idea, in my opinion.
  13. Click on the query name for the query you want to delete. Scroll to the bottom of the edit page that comes up. On the bottom are 2 buttons, the "submit information" button that you can use if you just want to edit that query to get results, and a "Delete this query" button.....guess what that one does. On a side note, when first setting up a query, DON'T select a day for it to generate. After you've entered all the information you want, hit the "submit information" button and on the next screen click the "preview the search" link. This will show you the results your query will generate. If no caches come up, you know you have something wrong, before you've "wasted" one of your 5 queries for the day. When the preview shows the results you expected, THEN select the day for it to generate.
  14. Since you're a premium member already, get a PDA and load use PQ's instead of all those scraps of paper.
  15. You're paying too much for batteries. That thing only uses 2 123a cells. Even at the local big box store, they were in 2 packs for $10. That's still too much as Surefire sells them for $1.75 each and Amondo Tech has them for $1 each. Or 2 or 3 cells shrinkwrapped together (ready to drop right into a 2 or 3 cell light) for $2 and $3 respectively.
  16. The website is paid for through Premium Memberships, sales of product through the Groundspeak store, advertising, likely promotions like the Jeep travel bugs......
  17. I agree, it sounds like a great idea. To add to Jeremy's thought, I think it would also be nice to be alerted when items are deleted from the list. (Don't ya love "feature creep"?)
  18. I agree, e-mail the cache owner and ask why. I don't think any legitimate logs should be deleted, unless they're loaded with profanity or similar. I've left multiple DNF's on caches when I've made multiple trips and came up empty. In one case, the cache owner was amused as it was a simple cache I was just overlooking. He even e-mailed and asked if I wanted a hint, as I had a hundred or more finds at the time, and newbies were logging stuff like "my first cache, found it quickly, I'm hooked"....... I also had a cache go missing recently, and neither of the 2 cachers that looked for it (that I know of) logged a DNF. If I hadn't gotten a PM from one, and an e-mail from a friend of the other, I wouldn't have known they'd looked, and the cache would likely still be missing, as I had no way of knowing it was gone. So, keep logging your DNF's when you don't find a cache.
  19. No, it was run by the cacher Joelmart. I sent him an e-mail with a link to this thread. I didn't know the site was down until I saw this thread, hopefully, he'll pop in and give us the answer.
  20. The problem is you're trying to download the caches from the results of the "preview" link. That'll only give you .loc files. You need to select a day for the query to run, and wait for it to show up in your e-mail.
  21. This cache is on the west rim. That'll give you a start point for your search. Looks like it might be the only cache there.
  22. FCC page says it's currently $80 for a 5 year license for GMRS radios.
  23. As a work around until something better comes along, if you have an archived cache you own, you could "dump" all your personal stuff there, to clear your inventory.
  24. Life isn't all positive, get used to it.
  25. Prison sounds negative to me. If you had named the Prison List "TB Hotels with limits" we wouldn't be discussing this. Negative or not Travel Bug PRISON is the name that has become common useage for TB "hotels" with restrictions. A "Hotel" you're free to leave when you want. (any cacher that comes along can grab the bug) A "prison" you're not. (TB has to wait for a cacher with a travel bug to trade to come along....or whatever other silly rules are put on the cache) If you don't like your Prison being on the list, drop the rules and make it a hotel, and I'm sure Criminal will move it to the appropriate list.
