  1. This is my hope after calling most of the local stores and getting the same reply as the other posters. Perhaps they are sent special delivery, and guaranteed by 1pm. Let’s hope for better news later in the day. Regards Tarot
  2. I purchased my Vista HCX in Feb 2008, and have never noticed the severe drift problem. I am running 2.7/2.6, on the test screen it shows Bravo Version 2. I have added a couple of pictures of my two start up screens, which I have not seen posted before. These could be used for comparisons between units. Regards Tarot
  3. My 1st email from Garmin stated: I received a 2nd email response from Garmin with regard to my question about how the remaining designs would be distributed. Their reply stated: So if all 4000 remaining coins are going to all 384 Blacks & Milletts stores that works out at about 10 coins per store. And we may need to have 4 new threads, one for each new design. Sounds like a busy day for the stores !! Regards Tarot
  4. CONGRATULATIONS Mr.Dewdrop and Agrajag2007 This is a fantastic achievement and will surely take some beating. It was only after reading this story that I realized such a large series of caches was available to attempt the record. Does anyone know of other 100+ series of caches suitable for such a record? Once again congratulations on your achievement. Regards Tarot
  5. Just had a reply from Garmin which confirms the information posted by Rothstafari. I also asked how many coins were minted, here is the full reply for continuity. So there must have been 5000 coins minted in total. Regards Tarot
  6. I did try to call Garmin at their Southampton HQ on Friday to get some clarification. The receptionist had not herd of the contest, but put me through to their marketing department. Unfortunately I just got a voice mail service, so I will try again tomorrow and pass on any news. Regards Tarot As promised I did telephone the marketing department at the Garmin HQ today, but on both occasions everyone was at meetings and could not take my calls. I have been given an email address and will try to get any further information or updates on the status of the contest. The situation does seem pretty dire, especially with the information from the manager of the York store. If the contest is to close early, I would expect Garmin to make an announcement quite quickly. Regards Tarot

Hi Bambography I think you should also try to contact them tomorrow, I might not be able to get through at the best times because of my strange shift times. Regards Tarot

  9. As some of you may be aware, Garmin are giving away free geocoins as part of their Visit UK Challenge. Unless the owner changes the name, the current coins show up as "Garmin Visit UK - Big Ben Geocoin" Part of the contest involves finding a coin to be able to enter, and it was while searching for the nearest coin that the following happens. Using the "Search For A Trackable Item By Name" and putting in "Garmin Visit" , I always get 100 results. From reading posts, there are clearly more of these coins activated. Are the results limited to 100 items, and if so is there another way to search for named coins. Regards Tarot
  10. I also use the Vista HCX. When I have reached the general area, I use the compass page to navigate to the cache. I have set the page to show 4 Data Fields and have these set to: Destination Dist To Dest Accuracy Time Of day So there is no need to switch back to the satellite page to check accuracy. At a glance you can add the (Dist To Dest + Accuracy) to get a good idea of how big your search area is. Remember you may need to increase this area to allow for discrepancies between yours and the hiders GPSr. Regards Tarot
  11. Yes from what I have read on these pages and from talking to the participating stores, only the Big Ben coin has been made available. Garmin are leaving it pretty late if they are going to get the other four designs released in time for the end of the promotion on 30th September. I guess they may release all of the remaining coins together or possibly extend the promotion. Regards Tarot
  12. Hi Mike I have telephoned all of the Milletts and Blacks stores within a 35 mile radius of my home. None of the Milletts stores had any coins, and most did not know what I was talking about. But all of the Blacks stores knew about the promotion, and some had coins or were awaiting further supplies. So if you have got any local Blacks stores, I think these are the better option. Regards Tarot
  13. While connected to USB power : Main Menu Setup System External Power Loss (Stay On) Hope this helps Regards Tarot
  14. This idea gets my vote, very fair and with an element of suprize for two of the winners. Thanks once again for a fun cointest. Regards Tarot
  15. Hi Team Skully This is how I am reading the rules, but it is not very clear. "Visit garminuk.geocaching.com for contest Information" is printed on the geocoin under the picture of the clock tower. Regards Tarot
  16. Did anyone have any thoughts on the interpretation of the rules? Tarot
  17. Released my coin today, lets hope it continues to be moved along and allow lots of other cachers to enter the contest. Question ? The rules say only one entry per person, and I'm hoping this means entry into the contest via the entry form. Then we can still try to get hold of the other 4 coins in the series and release these as well. However when we log these future coins into a cache, it would count as another contest entry. How do you read the meaning of the rules ? Regards Tarot
  18. This sounds great, my wife was originally from Bristol and we still have relatives there. It's 250 miles away but free accommodation. Note The Bristol International Balloon Festival takes place in Bristol during August. As yet they have not agreed a firm date, just stating it will be between 1st and 31st August 2009. It would add another great attraction, but the roads get very congested around the festival area. You might need to consider the Mega Event location if the dates coincide. They get about 500,000 visitors each year, and on some years it has taken me 3 hours to complete a normal 30 minute local journey. http://www.worldeventsguide.com/event/571/...n-Festival.html Regards Tarot
  19. I have just returned from the Trafford Centre in Manchester, and the Blacks store still had plenty of coins (Big Ben). I will get my coin activated and set it off on its journey within the next couple of days. Regards Tarot
  20. Another Birthday Bashe Cache GCPY61 On September 4th 2005, Spelunk wrote: Left Heart full of craft material to make small beaded necklace Happy caching Birthday & thanks for the cointest. Regards Tarot.
  21. Sometimes just the one word attached to a picture can create such a powerful message. Thanks for the cointest Regards Tarot
  22. NO NEED TO DREAM CALL TODAY BEHOLD TOMORROW Holding up an ad with telephone number for the new Garmin Oregon Thanks for the cointest Regards Tarot (UK)
  23. I bought the Venture HC a few months ago and had the same problem with the pointer lag. It was far slower than my old basic Etrex (Yellow) and GPS60 (Yellow). I returned the unit for a full refund and then purchased the Vista HCX with the electronic compass. I wonder if all of the H series without the electronic compass (Etrex H - Summit HC - Venture HC) have the same problem. I telephoned customer support about the issue, and their advice was to upload the latest firmware and do a hard reset (Neither worked !!) Regards Tarot
  24. I have just telephoned Garmin (UK), and they are not aware of any imminent updates for the Vista HCX. I guess we will just have to wait and see !! Regards Tarot
  25. As a test I have just tried to transform some (loc) files, and the function does not work. Because "Transform" uses the cache type and terrain to modify the waypoint, I think you need to use (GPX) files. So yes you would need to be a premium member. Regards Tarot
