  1. For me a good days caching is 2 or 3 caches, an area of outstanding beauty and a good restaurant. I'm not into the numbers game just enjoying the great outdoors.
  2. I live in France and also use Google to translate for my cache searches. However the translation is unable to handle figures!! co-ords are wrong and any caches requiring calculations it cannot handle + - or * I get the most strange results, thank goodness for mental calculations. I could be in another region with the Google results.
  3. When I download directly from the Geocaching site any cache information onto my GPS I also get all the information regarding fonts, styles, sizes border etc. This makes searching for the cache information quite difficult out in the open. Is it the downloading programme or have I not set up my GPS correctly Any help would accepted with thanks.
  4. Unfortunatly that sounds the end of my E.C.days. Like many of the others I am not fluent in all the European languages and since my holidays around Europe include E.C's I see no point in trying to untangle a strange language to do something that is a hobby and educational. It will be interesting to see the effect of this rule being applied to Brittany, will E.C's be in Breton? I have now shelved the ones I am preparing in France since the Google translator produces utter rubbish and has a habit of changing numbers around. What chance do we have by imposing such a rule.
  5. I thank you all for your constructive comments and I think that I will proceed along the lines of English with a basic French translation. However as I see the rules for placing an earthcache require both languages, the logging of the earthcache does not??. The ones I have done in the Middle East and Croatia all the logs were in English not to mention the cache description. So as you all say, give it go and I will.
  6. I appreciate that, but as I said the ones I have done in other countries were not in both languages but English only. Again I ask for clarification otherwise I can see me being in a position of not being able to place any earthaches and remain at "Bronze "Level. My technical, written French does not exist!!
  7. I am about to start working on placing my first Earthcache and I find that in the "rules" the descriptions etc must be in the language of the country the cache is placed in. I have visited several Earthcaches in other countries (non English speaking) and the descriptions have NOT been in the countries language but in English. Had the descriptions been in Arabic or Croation I don't think I would have attempted them. Are the rules flexible or have I missed something. Any advice would be appreciated
  8. I guess the stickers and stampers can't write or maybe a spelling problem!!
  9. Well, you cachers over there do have your problems. Here in France if we want a muggle around we have to send out invitations it's so quiet. Anyway the French are too busy eating to notice a wierdo on his knees searching in the bushes!!
  10. Boulist 44 & Aussie Pixie from France are visiting Doha again in Feb. We will be spending a few days in the Oman and a few days in ADH so with a bit of luck we should grab quite a few of your gulf caches so as to add more international logs to your caches. Happy caching to all you gulf cachers.
  11. Now sorted. Thank you all for guiding an old man through the system
  12. Is there any notification on the website, or elswhere, that an email has been sent to a fellow cacher? I have sent emails but am not sure that they went. Anyone any ideas
  13. Living in France I get this problem on a regular basis. I use Google page translation which works reasonably well with one major problem. Sometimes it tends to rearrange some calculations when doing multies or ? caches. A couple of times the results have been miles adrift. Otherwise it's not bad and sometimes quite funny but damned frustrating.
  14. Stear clear of mystery caches. It's OK to translate the questions but the answers are always in the original language not English. Multies are not too bad but they take time. I have this problem, living in France I have tried several mystery caches with little or no luck so have stopped trying. There are plenty of WIFI zones around the major cities in Europe but beware, there are lots of areas still only on "dial-up" Have a good trip.
  15. From me and aussie pixie a big thank you to you all in Brisbane who helped to make our visit memorable Sorry about the delay in getting things moving and logging but access to a computer has been very limited during our travels We are now back in France and reliving our visit by way of photos and films Thanks again.
  16. May I say a big thank you to "just a trifle" for their assistance and hard work in getting the local cachers to join in. That comes from me and Aussie Pixie See you on the mountain or somewhere? Boulist 44
  17. Thanks for your efforts, either the 13th or 20th will suit us fine. We are staying at the Toowong Villas, Ascog Terrace Toowong. Aussie Pixie says Mt. Coot-tha might be a good place to meet. Will be in touch by PM re contact phone numbers etc. Keep the batteries charged
  18. The meet & greet sounds a good idea to both me and aussie pixie. We arrive 29th August and depart for Perth 29th September Our thoughts re caches are pretty much in line with Cincol's Looking forward to enjoying a few caches We will liase with Cincol and will fall in with any plans. As to transport, I'm not sure at this time what our situation will be in Aus.
  19. If any cachers are on holiday near Pornic (Western Loire) why not enjoy a day out caching with us See Atlantic Event 2009 GC1THZW It will be a good day to meet fellow cachers and enjoy their friendship Happy caching Boulist44
  20. A small world since we last met in Doha Boulist44 (ex bucks bodgers) & Aussie Pixie will be in Brisbane for the whole of September and expect to do a few caches so we would be interrested in any replies you get. You may get that lunch we owe you!!
  21. A Brit in France, my nearest 500 caches , let me see---how does 100.15 miles grab you. How lucky can you get.
  22. Why should I adjust my computer filters for me to use a family forum ? Groundspeak should not accept such adverts in the first place.
  23. Its a Hoher DVD portable compact digital disc player. It runs on either mains or rechargable battery ( 2.5hrs) and is approx 12"x9" It plays standard DVD's I have viewed downloaded photogrphs and played films on it. I only thought that a "snapshot" of a cache page on disc would be better than printing since my printer has a mind of it's own and I could refresh my aging memory of the description and other possible information of a cache. Also when I travel I might need a dozen or so caches to either print or remember and on disc would be a better way if I could copy this information
  24. The data is downloaded onto my GPS all I want to do is read the cache explanations and written information
