  1. I was wondering about having a cache unarchived. I know it is supposed to be permanent and that I could just as easily go and start a new one at the same place, but it would be for sentimental reasons. It is actually a pretty old cache, and I would like to preserve its history. It was actually the first time I had ever heard of the sport, back in 2001 when we found this cache with a family friend. I didn't get into the sport until this year, and I just happened to come across the listing for the cache (on a whim I searched by Google and found the GC#) because I knew where it was located. I was wondering if reviewers ever unarchive caches so they can be adopted. Just curious since I think it would be more meaningful than an "In Honor Of The Previous Cache That Was Here" kind of cache. If anyone is curious, it is GC1B9C.
  2. Like the visual aspect of the new map. Really needs functionality work though.
  3. Unfortunately, it wasn't due to the fact that it was a local store, but for the fact that it is the only store that I can use my Discover Card reward points at that carries this software. Crutchfield is the only Discover Card partner that has it, and they only have it on SD. By the way they are also where I got my GPS with my points. It doesn't feel like I am actually spending money that way and the wife doesn't complain. Oh well, I might have to break down and spend $97 which is the cheapest I was able to find it online.
  4. I too use the GSAK on PC and Cachemate on my Palm 505 setup. It is ideal for seeing the descriptions and past logs and hints of caches. I use an SD card as well. I had to find some file management software for the Palm to use it effectively and I am still trying to find the best one, but it works well. Cachemate comes with a conversion tool or GSAK can directly output PDB files for use in Cachemate on the Palm. Together GSAK and Cachemate will cost $33. Well worth it if you geocache constantly like me. I had been using McFile as the file manager, but it is shareware and runs out after a month. Currently I am using Filez which is free but a little more clunky to use. I use this software to transfer the converted PDB files to directories on the SD card. You need some software in order to create the directories and use them I believe (I couldn't figure out how to do it with the Palm system).
  5. If you purchase one of the preloaded SD cards, is it possible to load that onto your PC like you could with the DVD? Is there anyway to make a backup in case you loose it or it gets erased or something? I would rather get the DVD, but the store I would get it from only carries the cards. And what does the NT stand for? They say it uses a different compression for your NT compatible devices. Does that mean Windows NT? surely not. I am wanting this for a 60CSx.
  6. I don't know, I was just curious. I was hoping that was what happened. I would hate for it to pick random ones and leave out one next door to me while it showed me one ten miles away.
  7. When you run a query and it returns more than the 500 limit, which ones are cut? Does it start from the farthest from center of search or just pick random caches to cut?
  8. Forget it. I figured out how to do all at once by choosing the category in My Places.
  9. Is there anyway to change the icon for all similar icons, or do you have to change them all one by one? Also, I was able to change my pushpin to a blue pushpin. Is this what you couldn't do or was it something else you were trying to make blue?
  10. This has probably been asked before, but there are so many topics out there dealing with maps that you can't search them all. What I want to know is there anyway to set home coordinates for when you click on Search with Google Maps from the Find/Hide Caches page? It always defaults to Seattle and I have to zoom way out, center it on Texas, then incrementally zoom into where I want. I have home coordinates set in my profile; why doesn't it use those?
  11. I hadn't even thought of that. It is a work around that will get me the number, but yes, you would think that would be a very simple piece of data to retrieve. It is obviously stored somewhere for the GPS to know how many are in it.
  12. I was unaware of the non-reporting status of intersection stations, which may answer why so many water towers have not been reported even though they are obviously there for anyone to see. Thanks.
  13. Does anyone know of a way to determine the number of waypoints that are in the 60CSx? I know it can only hold 1000, but I cannot seem to find anything like a used/free space property. This would be helpful when you are riding on the edge of that stupid 1000 point limit to know how much to filter a GSAK database by.
  14. Real quick question because I keep asking myself this same question as I am playing with Google Maps. I keep thinking it would be great if I had this on my Palm, but then I realize and have to keep reminding myself, I don't need it on my Palm; I have a map on my GPS.... Anyway that's how I deal with this conundrum whenever it comes up. Of course, if it is aerial views you are looking for, then a GPS won't help. I just look at them before I go out hunting.
  15. Ok, I see a lof talk about time periods from 1 year to 10 years. My question, would you wait different time periods for different types of benchmarks? For example water towers like DN1163 that are obviously still there and have long histories on GC.com, but the last time it was recorded with NGS was 1994, 13 years ago. Since GC.com is not "official," should something like this be reported on regular, maybe 10 year, basis?
  16. I will just throw in my two cents. My PQs were working yesterday, but they are either not working today or are extremely delayed. They usually run instantly, but I can't get any to run now. Obviously something is up with all the replies here.
  17. Yeah, I appologize. I just realized they have their own forums. Just ignore this post. sorry.
  18. Is there anyway that you can use the entries in one GSAK database to subtract from the entries in another database? For example, if one had 100 caches, but I only wanted to find 30 of those and I had those 30 (or even the other 70) in another database, I would like to eliminate the 100 down to the 30 based on what is in the other database. Yes I know I already have the 30 in a database, but assume I cannot use that database except as a list of ones I want or do not want. I need to trim the other, usable list, based on those. I figure this should be some kind of simple macro to compare the lists and delete from there, but I have no idea how to program these macros. Thanks.
  19. I knew I had it working before. It seems that soemthing must have happened while I was moving files around on the Palm and the descriptions just disappeared. I redid the whole process of converting and all copying over to Palm and everything is ok.
  20. One thing that is slightly annoying when I click in the "Visit another listing" box after logging a find. The box starts out filled with GCxxxx. When you click in it, the x's disappear, but then your cursur jumps to the beginning of the box before the GC. This also happens in the box on the right side of the home page. The concept is good to leave the GC, but stop the cursur after it not before it. Otherwise, I have to make 2 clicks in the box or my waypoint name will end in GC everytime. If this is not possible, just erase the whole box. Thanks
  21. So do you have to manually cut and paste the description in like the note box? And then cachemate sees that?
  22. Ok, I could swear that I had this working before, but now I cannot figure out how to get the .dat files for the counties translated into PDB files for my Palm with all the information in them. Cachemate only shows the coordinates and very limited naming info. I do not get all the description or logs. I thought I had it before, but maybe not. How do you turn the .dat files into cachemate usable PBD files that shows all available info? Do you ho thru a GPX intermediary? Thanks.
  23. Thanks for the enhancement. It does exactly what I need it to do.
  24. I would like to see the ability of being able to search for caches by ID from another cache's page. For example I do a lot of looking up different caches based on google maps, and every time I have to go back to the Hide/Find Caches page. It would be nice if the cache page template included the search by waypoint id option at the top or side or something.
  25. I have a question about the kml output. Is there anyway to output by color code? I see that you have a codesin option, but I do not know what the numbers in your example refer to. For example, I would like to output all monumented but not found markers (green), or all found (yellow). I do not have a large interest in the not found (red) ones, which unfortunately take up most of the map. Thank you.
