  1. I liked the the TWO found logs by the same cacher that only said dnf But seriously my fire company stopped doing Bingo years ago. Bingo and Jeopardy just dont go hand in hand
  2. A grate point! Not to long ago a family team not to far from me came out of "retirement" They were active in the very beginning days and had many hides. After knee surgery and other family health issues they had to give up the game for a long time. We exchanged emails a few times taking about caching in general and they were amazed at how the hobby had grown. It was not uncommon to drive 50-100 miles to find 6 or less a day. Neither one we to thrilled with all the LPC's out there but with their limited mobility they understood the change. They still prefer the park/woods type caches. She told me there are now over 1000 caches 100 miles from my zip I have no interest in looking for. Its all part of the game/sport/hobby/obsession
  3. Not only do Animals have accounts but so do stuffed dolls. I have met a "real" sock puppet You may want to get a coin/tb for your puppy too I know of a couple furry friends that are trackable/discoverable
  4. Yes a bit confusing. I wont even start about the terrible choice for the cache container. (ok I did) Was there a name or code listed in the log book? It could be the end to a multi. Was there stamp mostly images in the log book? I could be a letter box. The final to a puzzel. It could be listed on another site. It could be archived and not picked up. It would help if you listed a near by cache. I see you are from the PNW so maybe some one more local can help
  5. Yesterday I hiked 7 miles and found 10 caches (2 were multis) in a neat little park I had never been to before. Thats why I cache. I think this game evolves as the players change. In my area micros seem to have now become small. Folks feel the need to hide something in every parking lot and race for the FTF. People also like to claim a find for getting to the area were a cache used to be and is not maintained. My guess its a lot like that all over. My next 2 hides will be (1) a multi with a significant hike and (2) a bonus that you have to find the former to get the corrds too Look for what you like and hide what you like to look for. Dont worry if it only gets less than 15 finds in a year, unlike the LPC with 15 finds the first day Oh yeah I was the jerk who droped the NA on the missing cache and didnt not claim a So I guess Im an out of date jerk old schooler
  6. If its done right I dont think its a "horrible" idea. Here is one that had a good run maybe you can adapt it to your situation http://coord.info/GC225WT
  7. The CO disabled the cache on 5/16/11 Comments were made on the cache listing page on 5/28/11 and 6/27/11 The reviewer posted a note on 1/11/12 ,,,,7 months after the CO disabled it The reviewer archived it on 2/13/12 The CO has not responded to notes or emails. Just because the cache is still there is irrelevant. A cache must have an active owner. Looks like the CO and the cache were given 5 months more time than is reasonable. Archived,,,,no response from owner. That was the correct action taken
  8. Go here to read the Event cache Guide Lines http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=308#event Unless its a "MEGA" event you cant list it more than 3 months in advance as you were informed. Other than that its submitted just like any other cache. Hope this helps
  9. There is a free fix for Chrome and Firefox users. Both work great now with several mapping options I for one will never pay more than the $30 price point.
  10. Thanks LD! that fixed Firefox but still a no go for Chrome. Base Camp would be the option, I still use if Im using my Garmin. The Delorme plugin works great still so Alkhalikoi could go buy a PN60 they are pretty sweet
  11. You also can down load and use Base Camp too that works fine with my 60CSx
  12. The Garmin test page says its working but but when I try to "send to GPS" it says the browser is not supported. My guess is that is Garmin problem since the plug in is for Chrome 8.0+ but the version Im using now is 17+
  13. You can log it as a find too along with posting a MN. Most owners would not have a problem with that, unless its been trashed out or something along those lines Never mind I should have looked first
  14. Did a Google search they seem to be Scandinavian
  15. OOOOOOOOO nice works on both Chrome and Firefox. Thank you!
  16. I gave the new maps a few days to work out. I like the road map and can zoom in on that nicely. The Cloud Made and Mapquest Aerial are still completely useless if you try to zoom in. (Im using an iMac with Safari, Firefox and Chrome) To think that Groundspeak would be satisfied with this would be un expectable for me as a customer. The Mapquest satellite images seem to be working fine on their site. So some sort of server problem is the issue here, correct? Sure Google Maps are great as that is what 90% of us are used to., and use every day for for important things that are not geocaching related. Paying more on the consumers part is not acceptable to me . The price point and valu is completely different to every single person who pays the fee to use the site. I believe that Groundspeak is trying to fix the issue here. Yes it sucks and yes I and im sure thousands more are very disappointed. We pay to play and have the right to complain or switch to another site. There is only one other listing site that has any worth and it is NOT the Garmin .com site thats for sure. IMO Lets hope they get the issue resolved soon
  17. Actually, Moun10bike has posted quite a bit in the last few days. Go to his profile and click the link to show his recent forum posts. Thanks for the link so I didn't have to dredge through 11 pages. I gave the new maps a few days to work out. I like the road map and can zoom in on that nicely. 18. You need to have the cache enabled in order for the reviewers to see it
  19. Its very wise to have it in place before you submit it for approval. The biggest among them is the FTF hounds. Imagine you get it approved and published but before you can place it you have 3 or 4 cachers racing to get the FTF and ending up with 3 or 4 DNFS because its not there
  20. I did 15 miles and found just 2 Oh but it was to a mountain summit with an old abandoned fire tower I found 14 with about 6 miles of hiking also
  21. I almost never trade and prefere lager caches. They tend to be better than mindless throw down micros in a parking lot. Its about the location of the cache for me. I stuff my caches with $ store trinkets and dog toys. Even going so far as to say dont bother trading just let me know when its empty so I can restock it. My box's still fill up with silly bands business cards, old hotel key cards leafs and small stones Oh well what ya gona do?
  22. No wonder. It takes way to many minutes to write the minuets either that or they are doing ballet
  23. 1- any time is a good time 2- I hate rain 3 any thing of equal or better valu IE: dont leave a business card old hotel room key card or a rock for new toys or a flash light 4- I keep both pen and pencil with me pens most always work . People use stickers or stamps and you can get them on line just do a simple Google search 5- Heck yeah a lot of cachers have Geodogs I put dog balls in all my caches as swag. 6-Have fun!
  24. Garmin and Delorme are both very good I have a Garmin 60csx and a Delorme pn60 both mac compatible. I would get something that you can read the cache page on the unit (paperless) plus have topo maps in color. Its a bit more money but in the long run you will be much better off take a look at Ebay and Amazon you can find a deal there
