  1. I believe I read somewhere that the CCCooper Agency ''team'' consists of a husband and wife and two pre-teen children, FWIW to this discussion. Gary // Team Grayrun Take care of the land. Someday, you'll be part of it.
  2. Rich -- Congratulations on reaching 100! We're always delighted to find a cache you've already been to because of the quality and careful packaging of the items you leave. And we always enjoy your logs and photos. Keep up the good work! Gary, Joan and Oreo // Team Grayrun
  3. I recently bought a CamelBak Peak Bagger. I was interested in storage space (about 1,800 cu. in., as I recall) as well as water capacity, since I'm carrying water for three (wife, dog and me). I'm pleased so far; it seems to have plenty of room and is comfortable now that I've got it adjusted correctly. I've seen the CamelBak Rim Runner recommended here, too. 4. Here's one of mine that's even worse: Witness Post photo for Benchmark KV3393 Gary // Team Grayrun Take care of the land. Someday, you'll be part of it.
  5. The new regulations governing the use of PA State Game Lands already have been approved and will go into effect in February 2003. You can learn more here: PGC news release Gary // Team Grayrun Take care of the land. Someday, you'll be part of it.
  6. I've also found a Corps of Engineers marker, this one on the remains of an old canal lock. It is a traverse station marker placed in 1951. I spent a little time on the COE Web site yesterday looking for a database, but didn't find anything. Gary // Team Grayrun Take care of the land. Someday, you'll be part of it.
  7. quote:I'll work with Jeremy to have both the "SCALED" or equivalent text displayed next to the coordinates as well as including a section which lists the control texts. The combination of both of these pieces of data will allow you to see the accuracy of the coordinates so you can plan your hunt accordingly. Elias -- I'm impressed with the way this effort is evolving and the approach Jeremy and you are taking to the issues members are raising. Great work! Gary // Team Grayrun Take care of the land. 9. smoochnme -- We'd love to know what cache you're going to search for with the reporter. Gary // Team Grayrun Take care of the land. Someday, you'll be part of it.
  10. There's a fascinating article in today's New York Times about conflicts between grizzly bears and humans in Montana. A quote: ''In and around Whitefish, Mr. Manley instructs homeowners, especially part-time residents from outside Montana, that they should never allow a grizzly to get comfortable in their yard. Most people follow his advice, he said, if the bear looks menacing or damages property. But if the bear in the yard happens to look sweet and friendly, what Mr. Manley calls a 'golden retriever type of grizzly,' then people often ignore his guidance and assume it is safe to let the beast hang around.'' 11. The weather didn't sound promising for Saturday the last time I checked. Maybe you'll be giving them a real wet geocaching experience! Gary of Team Grayrun Take care of the land. Someday, you'll be part of it.
  12. 13. The following line appears at the top of each page of the "new since your last visit" listings: Search Results: (xxx matches) [ Page 1 2 . . . ] It would be great if this same line appeared at the bottom of each page of listings. Unless I'm missing something, that would eliminate having to go back to the top of the page to click on the next page number. Gary of Team Grayrun Take care of the land. 14. A reporter from the Centre Daily Times newspaper in State College contacted us. She's wants to do a feature on geocaching and is looking for cachers in Central Pennsylvania to talk to. If you're interested, send an e-mail to gplummer@yahoo.com and we'll send you her e-mail address and phone number. Thanks. Gary of Team Grayrun Take care of the land. Someday, you'll be part of it.
  15. Below is a URL for a Garmin news release on a RINO patent for its "position-reporting feature." The release hadn't been posted on the Garmin web site yet when I checked a few minutes ago. 18. quote:Originally posted by Olar: Gary when you do this keep in mind that any caches listed east of Barrie would require a long drive around the lake to get to them. Bending tree is a very good one and is about a 15 min drive to parking lot. Other then that you will have to come south towards Toronto. If you have Microsoft's Streets & Trips I can email you (I think)a map file with all the Canadian caches. Olar -- Yes, going around Lake Simcoe would cut into caching time, wouldn't it? I will check out Burning Tree. I don't have Streets and Trips installed on my PC, but I appreciate the offer. Thanks for your help. Gary of Team Grayrun Take care of the land. 19. quote:Originally posted by MrGigabyte: If you are looking for caches in any area, why not use the built in "nearby caches" link that is on every cache page. MrGigabyte -- All I can say is "Doh!, why didn't I think of that?" It's a feature I seldom use, so it didn't come to mind. Thanks for the suggestion. Gary of Team Grayrun Take care of the land. Someday, you'll be part of it.
  20. We'll be visiting our daughter and son-in-law in Barrie late next week. I'd like to do some caching if the weather's okay. I know about the Water Spout cache in Barrie, but I'm not sure what keywords to use to search for other caches in the Barrie area - say, within 30-40 km. Do any of you Ontario cachers have any suggestions. Thanks. Gary of Team Grayrun Take care of the land. Someday, you'll be part of it.
  21. Is anyone using the Garmin Automotive Windshield Mounting Bracket for the eTrex line? Comments? Is it a good alternative to dash mounting? Gary of Team Grayrun The pot of gold is only make-believe. The treasure can't be found by men who search. Bob Dylan
  22. Wish I would have had MrGigabyte's advice before losing that little bead of plastic . . . Gary of Team Grayrun The pot of gold is only make-believe. The treasure can't be found by men who search. Bob Dylan
  23. Have you calibrated your electronic compass as described in the Quick Start Guide that came with your Vista? Once you've entered the coordinates for a cache and started a GOTO to that cache, you walk in the direction the bearing pointer on the compass is pointing. As the Vista manual says (Page 14), "Walk in the direction of the bearing pointer until it points to the top of the compass ring . . . When it (the bearing pointer) points straight up, you are on course to your destination." Hope this helps.
