  2. Don't assume it was LAZINESS. We have added the logs and yes they fit and the point is moot and that is the rule and we abide by it. I take offense to the lazy comment. We are some of the hardest working cachers in the state of Maryland and take great pride in doing the right things including nursing others caches but the point was NOT us being lazy. Don't assume! quote:Originally posted by georgeandmary:Put a log book in the container. I've heard time and time again how there is NO WAY they cold fit a log in thier super small container so they only way to do it is with a code word. I've heard this about: film cannisters alotids tins (big and small) lysterine strip holders (and other brands) small hide a key rocks And you know what? I've signed logs multiple containers of each type. Quit being so lazy and make a log for the container. george Wanna go for a ride? Wags, Russ & Erin
  3. Wal-Mart also has luggage tags that are like a poor mans laminate that also work well but not as well as real laminating. They are usually in the office supplies section. Wags, Russ & Erin
  4. That is an excellent point but are people that darn stupid to fake a find? How stupid. If they are that adamant to fake a find who cares. They have to live with themselves. It is a great point though but unless I check these logs every single week and I am not what is the point. We all, especially including myself, are taking this way too seriously I guess. quote:Originally posted by TEAM 360:Once one cacher gets the codeword, what's to stop them from passing it along to someone who could fake a find on the cache? A logbook is DEFINITIVE proof that it was actually found. Wags, Russ & Erin
  5. Deep breath taken Mopar and I enjoy your posts so I am glad you did not take it personal but it is all related. Wags, Russ & Erin
  6. Then HAVE Legal CONATINERS POSTED WHICH WILL ALLOW FOR CODE WORDS WHICH ARE SAFER THAN THE SILLY PAPER LOGS WHICH ARE MORE JUST FOR FUN! YOU have pages and pages of great information and clear rules. Don't KILL these types of caches EVOLVE THE RULES for THEM! Come on you are missing the point. The point is not the container but about verification!! Wags, Russ & Erin
  7. How can you fake a CODE WORD MOPAR???? If you don't email the answer to the hider it will NOT be a find. That is what the deletion capability of the hider is for. AM I missing something here????? quote:Originally posted by Mopar: quote:Originally posted by Hannah904:Why is a log book at the cache necessary when we log our find on the web site. If you place a micro cache there may not be room in the container for paper and pen much less a small notebook. Can't everyone keep track of the visits and items taken and replaced from watching the log entries on the web site. Thanks for your thoughts and comments. We recently had a cacher here log almost 150 "fake" finds online. Without the logbooks, and his lack of a signature in any of them, there would have been no way of proving it. I have yet to see a micro too small for a log. 8. An Altoids mini tin with a code word can fit one sheet of paper the size of a dime MAYBE. Maybe if something has to be Markwelled over and over there may be a valid point that needs to be addressed!! quote:Originally posted by IV_Warrior:This has been beat to death, a quick search would turn up many threads, I'm just not up to markwelling today. Anyway, there are very very few containers to small for at the very least log sheets. A 35mm film can, which seems to be a popular micro container has room for plenty of log, pencil stubs, and even small trade items. Even the tiny http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=11907653&parent_category_rn=5760752 have room for a carefully cut and rolled logsheet. Nothing to see here, move along. Wags, Russ & Erin
  9. From Mrs. Last Lap: Sorry, we just started this topic again without realizing it. Sorry. Ok, I saw that tubey keychain. Ok, Fine. However, I have seen Hide-a-keys used, and only verified with a keyword. If verifying a find is all that is needed to claim a find, what's wrong with a keyword? That's even better than a log book in a way. So, we're just miffed because we wanted to use these small, metal altoid strip tins, and there is no room for a "Log Book" (and I don't think a role of paper with lines for 10 people should count), but there is room for a keyword, but they won't get approved NOW, because of this new rule. I think this rule should be reconsidered. Wags, Russ & Erin
  10. From Mrs. Last Lap: quote:someone could not find a micro, got ticked off, and blamed it on there not being a log book inside. I believe they said they would feel better about not finding it if only there was a log book inside. How Cockamamy can you get? Plain and simple. A micro is a very small container. If you can't fit in a log book, you need to find some way of verifying a find... a keyword solves that problem. I really want this rule to be reconsidered. Who should I contact? Wags, Russ & Erin
  11. From Mrs. Last Lap: We were so excited when our friend, Pete, came for a visit with these adorable, cute, little mini Altoid tins. They literally look like Barbie Paint trays! I slapped a magnet on the back, and put in a kick butt code word. Couldn't wait to set them up in some incredibly scenic points that a Traditional cache wouldn't be appropriate in. Plus, a virtual just didn't have enough class. So, we knew we couldn't put in a log book because these tins are not much bigger than a 50Cent piece. So, who cares? We put a KEYWORD in so that finders would have to EMAIL US THEIR LOG!!! What's the difference? I mean, I like the New Virtual Rule, but this MACRO Micro RULE just plain sucks! I understand the Grandfather clause, and only wish we had not spent the hundreds of dollars on the MANY Traditional Caches we've placed hither and yon. Could have saved a bundle, if we had just done KEYWORD micros BEFORE this NEW rule. Well, we'll get over it... we love this sport to much , but I must say that this is the first, and hopefully ONLY, gripe that we've has so far. I know the LAST LAP GANG is only just one other Cachin' pair amongst thousands of others, but I hope that our gripe is heard. I just don't understand what's wrong with KEYWORD MICROS! A log is a log, online or off. Wags, Russ & Erin
  12. I think I know what you mean but could you elaborate please. quote:Originally posted by Nurse Dave & LKay:I think the trouble is people take advantage of creating new forms of the game or do it without thinking, and ruin it for people that want to do something outside the box. Unfortunatly with the growth of the sport, I don't see how the guidelines can be loosened without somebody causing problems. This being said, the people that wish to place caches will have to learn to live with rules put in place for the 5% crowd. http://www.sprecher.us/smiles_63.gif ---Real men cache in shorts. 13. Thank you for the info. It will be used. Jeremy sorry to raise the flag and beat the bug issue but there is a frustration. Personally the Last Lap Gang would like to see the Travel Bug more intergrated to the cache and less specific to its own page. All TB actions happen on the cache pages. quote:Originally posted by ShaneN4Girls:http://www.xsnrg.com/geocachingwa/asp/travelbugsheet1.asp is a link to a site that will generate TB passports for you online. 14. After 75 miles of driving to find two clever plants for micros I was fortunately notified that these are NOT (W/O Physical Log Book)allowed anymore. We are known for wellstocked stuffed theme traditional caches but wanted to place a couple of well placed micros with codewords. Glad I didn't embarrass myself by trying to get them approved!! I thought the whole idea behind geocaching was to create new forms of the game but is sounds like now it is going in the reverse. What gives why are these so frowned upon if they do not have a physical log book. I think the physical log book deters from the online posting sometimes (Age old human nature --why do I have to do something TWICE!). Oh well I love the sport, love the sight, love the cachers I meet so I will climb down now but to simply not protest the decision would be to not state my opinion. You are contracting the sport not expanding it with a decision like this. Wags, Russ & Erin

  16. Thats's very responsible and very cool caching. We all should be that responsible as it would elevate the quality of this cool hobby we all share. quote:Originally posted by Snoogans: quote:Originally posted by Eeyore and Shadow:Some time ago I saw a thread where someone was not only sending instructions along with their bug as to how to use them but a passport as well that explained the bug's mission and an area to list caches it has already visited and cachers who have handled it. 19. "Seriously? Are ticks worse in a certain time of year? The caches I am doing in Maryland are in the North East part, on the Pennsylvania border. I know we are going to the Serpentine Barrows area, and I plan to do a cache in Delaware as well." Yes they are bad right now and yes they are bad in those areas. If the grass is tall they catch on your pants. Wear OFF, Long sleeves if you can bear it and tuck your pants if you can bare looking like a goober. It is a particularly bad year for them. 21. Yep it is rather bad this season. Crashmore the Maryland Geocaching Persident posted on www.mdgps.net he is on medicine now because he caught the Lymes Disease very early at the red bullseye stage. I am wearing a bottle of Off on my body when I go out tomorrow and Sunday. Wags, Russ & Erin
  22. There is an awful lot of abuse to bugs. One only has to look at the Travel Bug Graveyard cache to know that. I have noticed that people are getting wiser (including us in the future) and attaching detailed instructions to their bugs for the journey. Is there any future plans to automate and integrate bugs more directly to the caches. People just do not handle bugs well alot of times. Problems suchs as: 1- Not logging the bug on the bug page 2- logging the bug before the bug has been placed by the previous owner 3- taking the bug and not logging at all 4- sitting on the bug (this is hard to control) As clear as the Bug Directions are it is still confusing for first timers. It was for me the first couple of times. I am sure this subject has been broached before but it doesn't bid well for the consumer to buy more of a product (Travel Bug ID Tags) if the ones they have keep getting abused. Travel Bugs are an incredibly fantastic part of geocaching but educating the novice cacher seems to still be a problem. Just my two cents with inflation and loose cerebral matter cause a drop off of 1.9 cents. Wags, Russ & Erin

  24. Tried the power caching thing once for I think a measly 11. We were tired, grouchy, and the fun had turned into mind numbing obsession. We now map out 5-8 caches and try to get at least four when we go out. I love the numbers and the stats and root for those who put up the impressive numbers because I know they have busted their hump to get there. Now looking at the 62 to in one day. Divide that into twenty four hours. Where they all lined up within 500 feet of each other????? Wags, Russ & Erin
  25. I like geoachy's from the first page on this thread. I am a sucker for close ups of dogs. I like ours too as it was the main symbol of the wedding and also our honeymoon tattos last year. Fitting since we are owned by three greyhound and a borzoi. There is also one of a Range Rover half turned over that I dig. Avatar art is so cool! Wags, Russ & Erin
