  1. Tkanks for the link...very interesting. Using my 76CSx and 76S, I got the same results from both today with GPS mode off: 400ft delta=.43, 1000ft delta=1.08. Don't know why the low delta yesterday, couldn't make it repeat today. But then again...yesterday I didn't even know what "delta" was! I do see though that the 1000ft delta Igot is lower than your reading. Thanks for your input.
  2. Hertzog, you mentioned "(slope for STA is 0.00106"Hg/ft from 0 to 1000')", I'm new to this and so was wondering what it is above 1000ft, say to 2000ft. BTW, When I took the pressure readings the temperature was about 66°F. I will do more readings with another GPSr also.
  3. Hertzog, you are correct. I was thinking of it as .01"Hg per 10ft of elevation, but neglected to say it. Thinking about it now, I suppose I should have used "Hg/ft. Thanks for the response.
  4. Hi The problem might be the batteries because some types don't work properly when they are that cold.
  5. On my 76CSx I had an ambient pressure of 29.66"Hg and a barometer pressure of 29.89"Hg. I lied and told it I was at 0ft elavation. The GPSr then told me that both amb and baro were now 29.66"Hg. (They should be equal at mean sea level) I then told it I was at 400ft and it kept the ambient pressure the same but increased the barometric pressure to 30.05"Hg. So, after doing the math, it looks as though the GPSr is adding about .01"Hg to the ambient pressure of my present elevation to give an estimated vaiue for the barometer reading at MSL. Does this sound right? What's your thoughts on this?
  6. If the slower charger keeps the batteries at a lower temperature during the charge, I would use it unless I was in a hurry.
  7. I sometimes use an external antenna with my 76s. But, the only thing that seemed to increase accuracy was d/l the latest sw version, doing a master reset, and acquiring the latest satellite almanac for WASS. It agrees more with my 76CSx now.

  9. Hi, and welcome! Yes, I use MG Canada v4 on my 76Csx and find it to be quite adequate. Of cource no map is perfect, and the data is probably ten years old ...but to answer your question...it will find addresses on the GPSr.

  12. Hi The compass needs to be recalibrated after a battery change because the batteries are made of metal. The batteries are close to the compass and can have an affect on it.
  13. Yes, MetroGuide Canada v4 does not autoroute on my 76s, but it still shows a grayed-out checkbox. It does autoroute perfectly on my 76Csx however.
  14. Wow!...a desert hike...now that sounds awesome. Maybe someday I'll be fortunate enough to do one. Where I hike, "you can't see the forest for the trees". I don't know why you lost your waypoints, but this is a good example of a GPSr messing up when you need it the most. Thought I'd mention a few rules that I learned the hard way: 1) Carry a map and compass. 2)Hike with a companion 3)If the backpack feels comfortable you are not carrying enough gear. 4)Never look a bear in the thighs. I hope someone can resolve your problem.
  15. Before you loaded the map set, did you checkmark "Include route calculation data?
  16. I believe Garmin describes the accuracy as being within a 20 ft. circle 95% of the time, under ideal conditions, and with WAAS enabled.
  17. I must admit I like the way Garmin implemented this feature on the 76S much better. On the Satellite page, you can switch from one location format to another just by using the rocker.
  18. On my 76CSx, which should be the same as the 60CSx, I have UTM on the Satellite page and lat/lon on the map page.
  19. Sorry...double post. IIRC,at the equator the earth rotates at one nautical mile in four seconds.Now...where is my calculator?
  20. Another very interesting point. When you are standing still you are actually moving because of the earth's rotation. Could it be that the LegendCxs isn't compensating for the earth's rotation properly? Maybe by the time taken for the calculation is so long the earth has rotated .01'. How much time does it take to move .01'?
  21. Hi everyone. When I'm driving at night, I don't want my GPSr blocking any part of my vision, so I fix it on the dash with velcro. It's tilted up enough so that I can see it clearly. One small advantage of the 76C(Sx) over the 60C(Sx) is that in a darkened car with the backlight on full brightness, the 76C(Sx) has a much greater angle of view. I think this is because the screen lights shine up from the bottom of the screen. Whereas on the 60C(Sx) the lights shine down from the top, which washes out the screen at the same angle of view. The difference can easily be seen in a dark room with the backlight on. Hold your GPSr up and tilt the top forward and then compare the AOV by turning it upsidedown and tilting the bottom forward. Just thought I would toss in my two cents.
