  1. Okay, one of you computer wiz's out there: As I understand it, you can log your find on your PDA and then somehow upload it to GC.com to log it online. Is that correct? If so, would there be a way to take a pocket query of your finds and upload those logs to another user-name on GC.com?
  2. Could part of the problem be that no one's home there until tomorrow night?
  3. From the guidelines: Perhaps you should be thinking more along the lines of batteries, small first aid kits, books, etc.
  4. I don't recall reading anything in that thread stating that Tacoma does not require permission to place a cache. And even if there was, that thread is three years old and the parks rules may have changed. Do you have any information regarding Tacoma specifically, or are you just trying to derail this thread with your own agenda? I live in Tacoma and have caches hidden here. No permisssion is required. My adgenda is that if someone goes around asking for permission where there is no policy, they will be forced to make one. That is seldom a good thing. I have hit counters on both of my Tacoma caches, the parks dept has looked at the cache pages several times. The current policy is no policy, thus no permission is required. If anything, your pointless and snarky reply is a feeble attempt to derail the thread. I can and will help the OP, all you're doing is spewing venom. Take it elsewhere. And yet, rather than giving a straight-forward answer, explaining that you know for certain that no permission is required, you posted a link to a thread stating your position on asking permission. Wouldn't it have been more on-topic with this thread if you had answered the question that was presented?

  6. That reminds me of one of my favorite jokes: A Martian standing in front of a gas pump turns to another Martian and says "He doesn't answer, sir. I keep saying 'Take us to your leader', but he just stands there with his reproductive tube in his ear."
  7. I've taken several caches. I can't remember exactly how many, six or seven, I think. The Cleveland Metroparks has a geocaching permit program. The permits are good for up to a year. Occasionally a cacher will obtain a permit, hide a cache, and then lose interest in the hobby. When the cache is still active after the permit expires the park's Geocaching Coordinator will attempt to contact the cache owner. If she is unsuccessful she will log an SBA on the cache with an explanation as to why it should be archived. When it is archived she will go and get the cache or ask one of her volunteers to get it. The cache will be kept in her office for a few weeks, and then "recycled". As one of the CMP geocaching volunteers, the job of pulling these caches often falls to me. So I don't have a problem with removing caches, as long as the person with the authority to have the cache removed asks me to.
  8. Check your city directory, or call the City Hall. There should be something along the lines of a "Parks and Recreation" department. When you talk to the person there (hopefully the Director of Parks and Recreation), be prepared to give a brief explanation of what geocaching is. Ask if there are any rules that would prohibit geocaching. In other words, don't ask if it's allowed, ask if it's not allowed. When I did this for the city in which I live, the director actually suggested which park would be the best for placing a regular cache. Don't forget to get the name of the person you talked to. Make a note of the name, date and time. If someone asks you about it later you can tell them who gave you permission.
  9. If you do that you could hide a bottle of wine/glasses at a set of coords and let her find that! I like this idea. Make it into a creative multi. Find a nice, easy cache and stick a note in it with a clue to get to the next "cache", which would be wine glasses and another note. The next one would be a bottle of wine, then a picnic basket, and finally someplace to enjoy it all (a nice view, some food, drink, each other's company). I think I might try this one myself. You may want to put the note in an envelope with the girl's name on it, otherwise you might get there to find out that your romantic picnic had been traded for a McToy.
  10. Do you access the forums directly or through Geocaching.com? The forums are on a separate server, so if you get to the forums from GC.com that server will tell the forum server about the change in your profile.
  11. Okay, let's throw a ringer in here. I know what this is, but can someone else identify it and tell me why the picture is deceiving? It's been seen in Northern Ohio for the last couple weeks.
  12. Not necessarily. I see that as more based on the terrain or accessibility to the cache. There are simply some areas where you may not want to take small children. For example, I seem to recall someone having a cache hidden in a swamp. An adult would have a difficult time getting to the cache, so I don't believe you would want to take a child there.
  13. As I understand it, a charity can be mentioned in relation to a geocaching event but it can't be the primary reason for the event. For example: You can have a geocaching Christmas event and mention that if anyone wants to bring a toy to donate to Toys For Tots there will be an area there to put them and the event organizer will see that they are turned over to the charity. You can't have a Toys For Tots event and say that everyone who wants to attend has to bring a toy. I don't believe your idea will be approved, but you'd have to ask your local reviewer.
  14. Pictures! We wanna see what the young lady looks like. And, of course, we all expect to be invited to the wedding.
  15. From that site: So it would get you pretty close, at least in the UK.
  16. That is an excellent idea that will serve to increase the number of hides in already dense areas while inhibiting the placement of new caches in relatively empty areas. How would limiting the ability to hide caches increase the number of hides?
  17. Here is a link to another thread that asked almost the same question. Unfortunately, it won't help you out any, except to say that you won't be able to find the numbers.
  18. After reading your post I did a search and only came up with two sites of such. Actually only one was a site the other was just registered to a fictious email address. ]Links removed by moderator] The second is just regiseted but the first is a site. Not much info on it. Looks like it is new. I do think there can be a good use for this by the way. It doesn't have to be porn related. How about a mini liquor bottle from an international flight? I'd be more likely to leave something like an old coin to an adult in hopes that it would travel more. Not that I am against ressurecting old threads when appropriate, but why are you folks even bothering to respond to this obvious attempt by a sock puppet troll to inject life into a 4 year old thread that is and was long dead? Because it was too hot and humid and my sinuses were giving me grief so I didn't want to go outside and play. And it's more fun than cleaning my apartment.
  19. 49 huh? Aw, Geez, I would think someone of your age would be just tickled to find a nice shiny pair of new dentures in a cache.... Did you even read my previous two posts? I clearly stated in both of them that I was against someone putting what you old timers consider adult material in the caches. All I was stating is my first impression of some of the people in this group. Just so negative, I got a bad vibe after reading this thread. It seems like everyone wants to just tear up the other person because of their opinion. Now I know I just shot one accross your bow but a wise 5 year old once told me "you started it". Ive had so little and just enough this topic.... You still haven't told me what "new ideas and suggestions" you are talking about. You remember, that question I asked that you conveniently edited out when you quoted my post?
  20. Back when I rode a motorcycle, the coldest temperature that I ever rode in was 19 degrees. During the winter I would get off the icy side street that I lived on to the clear and dry main road by riding with both feet on the ground to act as outriggers.
  21. What "new ideas and suggestions" are you talking about? Are you saying that we should allow things that are commonly refered to as "adult" in caches? I'm a 49 year old man, and I don't have or cache with children but I would be angered if someone started putting those items in caches around here. Aw, geez, I just checked his profile and may have been sucked in by a trolling sock puppet.
  22. Go out and find the cache before the date, make sure it's there and in good shape, but don't log it. That way she won't be disappointed if you can't find it or if it's a mess and you can impress her with your cache-finding abilities by spotting it almost immediately while on the date (let her try to find it first, and after a few minutes of her searching, suggest a possible spot).
  23. You know, it would be much easier to take you seriously if you didn't include those three smilies after each post, right? Seriously? Who takes him seriously?
  24. I can see your point, but I know a number of cachers who routinely cache in other states. For example, a few cachers from Pennsylvania regularly come into Ohio to find caches and atttend events. Another cacher that I know in western Ohio does a lot of caching in Indiana. Having the forums in groups rather than individual states would make it easier for them to keep aware of what's going on in the areas they cache.
