Edmonton, Alberta is LIVE! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...&Submit6=Go You can find all the caches with this URL search: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.asp...mp;submit4=Find Nice work on the coat of arms. I have implemented that on my cache page as well.... looks like all our ducks are lining up finally. PS - Glad to know that Quebec will remain distinct.
  3. Avoid eye-contact... try not to bowl them over on the way to the cache first!!! Yeah, this has happened on more then one occasion. Always great to meet other cachers out in the field.
  4. "Don't tell my wife I'm out Geocaching!" Related Link: http://www.geocachingedmonton.com/forum/vi...p;highlight=mp3 If you haven't heard this tune yet, you owe it to your spouse to check it out! http://www.wahschoirs.org/Audio/Don't%...0Geocaching.mp3 {Click To Listen} Yay TeamPearce!
  5. No... yer so goood. Uhm, if you want to review AB.. I just released it for review so you can have a look see. GCXP29 - GREAT WHITE NORTH GEOTOUR - Edmonton, AB TTFN, RB
  6. e&b, just sent you a private email. Have you got a status update, and perhaps a summary list of all the cache placements (with GC codes) to send us yet to update the listings with? I have not 'realeased my listing' to the approvers yet, waiting for your go on that... not sure why some have been listed yet. Likely what's causing the problem as the final would not be solveable until we get all our ducks in a row here. Can we try to get this on-line ALL by the end of the month!? Hunting season is here... hence my duck analogy. PS - GeoSquid.. I feel fer yah. I just tried upgrading to Windows Vista RC1... and well.. mine was self-induced.. what can I say.
  7. Hyup, coolio. Indeed, I will need to do some minor edits myself when all the points are known. As well, IMHO the cache pages should all have a common look and feel to unify them. Only Quebec's should be distinct of course. (Sorry, ducking for cover now... from our brother Marmacette to the East).
  8. Eelow&Beelow, The Edmonton Alberta (GCXP29) cache has been placed today. Waiting for the admins to approve it... and release on your word. How are the rest of the provinces coming along? I too apologize for the delay.. and well.. I got a nice tour of the city in today. LOL! RB
  9. Alberta checking in here. Cache container is being stocked, a waypoint has been created... just setting up some final details before I turn it over to E&B.

Email me with yer thoughts 'eelow&beelow' on how you wish to set this up, and I'll have an ammo can good to go for placement somrwhere along the Yellowhead Trail. 11. From Related Topic: http://geocachingedmonton.com/forum/viewto...php?p=5200#5200 --- I see why they 'think they have' to do it (less coding effort -- good old 80/20 RULES) -- but yes more maintenance in the end. I am glad I stumbled on this post just now. No plans to change it.. but it would have been nice of Geocaching.com to communicate this to all their users by email. Have they? Yeah.. when the Rangerette's move out of the house one day.. I would consider changing 'TeamRB&R' to just 'Ranger Bob' eh? Change is ever constant eh? PS - As a software engineer myself I agree.. the simple solution is to build a GUID (unique user id) for each user, and use that instead.. that should be system assigned, and not changeable by the user. Oh wait.. they already do that though. <vbg> http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=39de326b-c349-4a8f-97ff-51322bc8701a
  12. Scratch told be there's one stashed on the top of a mountain in Banff National Park. Has never been found yet. Mount Temple Cache- Hidden: 8/12/2001 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...f7-7800dabbbe21 I'll bet the park wardens never bother to climb it to remove it either.

  14. There is a meeting of the Edmonton Geocaching Meetup Group Tonight. More details on the website here: http://geo.meetup.com/5/ Cache On!
  15. I could ask you the same thing? 8^) I was merely pointing out this ""tragic"" log entry to others to get their (actual) thoughts on it. I personally don't think the cache should be archived. It's sad when these things happen but the cache was rated at a high difficulty. RB
  16. Success! You have emailed the user with the following message: That sucks indeed. Reading the past logs (and never having visitied this site) it indeed sounds difficult. The terrain difficulty was marked as being very high, and fair warning was given in the description. I'm not sure that it warrants being closed for that reason, although I did post your log entry to the forums here to see what others think. In any event, it will make others be more wary about the warning given and to use caution when doing the cache. Rest up, and get well soon. Ranger Bob THIS IS AN AUTOMATED EMAIL MESSAGE FROM GEOCACHING.COM Replying to this message will not send a message to the user. Email contact@geocaching.com with any questions --------------------------------------------------- StAlbert4 has logged a cache on your watch list (Fire along the North Saskatchewan). You can visit the cache at the following link: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=6937 User comments: This note is a warning. I strongly suggest not visiting this cache. The team (the family) visited it last Sunday (June 1). The top of the wash has garbage dumped into it during the winter. We decided to bushwack around it through thick bush. When we reached a point where we could access the wash (30-40 metres from cache), the wash was in poor shape, so I suggested that the rest of family stay there while I went the rest of the way. It was tough going. I got to the point where I could see the cache. At that point, I don't know if I tripped or a piece of the embankment gave way beneath me. I fell 4 feet onto the ledge that the cache was. Result was I broke my right ankle in 3 places. Long story short - I called 911, sent my family up to meet the rescue vehicles. They had to use a search & rescue team to get me out. A Zodiac ride on the North Saskatchewan River was the only way out. Took approx. 2 hours. On Monday night, I was operated on to have screws & plates put in my ankle. Out of action for min. 6 - 8 weeks, with long road of physio ahead. No geocaching this summer. I am going to ask the cache owner to consider archiving this site. The Devon Fire Chief was not impressed on where we where or where he had to send his people. Irony, where I landed was less 10 feet away from the cache, but I had lost all joy to uncover it. This will take you to the cache page. If you would like to modify your cache list, please visit www.geocaching.com. Cheers, Geocaching.com Team

    Geocaching on TV

I remember seeing this air actually, and is what got me checking into the sport. Finally in Xmas of December 2002 we got a GPS and did our first cache. RB
  21. quote:Or doesn't everyone know everyone else's OPINION yet? zuuk Nope, but I'm sure if I go back into lurk mode for awhile longer I will. But trust me... a few OPINIONS have been formed. Yes, my first fooray into the helpful world of Groundspeak. Methinks for now I'll just stick to finding the tupperware. Just add goodies, sign logbook, and leave. 22. Yes, one last thing.. just before I remove myself from your mailing list. To clarify once and for all, *I* replaced the name of the original sender with the words ** ANONYMOUS CACHER **. I innocently posted the private comment showing support for my cache idea. There was no intent to slam CA, ADMINS, or anyone! Again I do apologize to ALL for that. I was not out to bait anyone into a flame fest here. I was merely trying to see what you all thought about my cache concept. Questioning why it would not be approved in it's present form. The cache has since been approved by working with the admins, and by taking into account many of the fine suggestions offered above. Next time I will certainly work harder with the admins OFF-LINE to resolve any issues. Again.. Nuff Said! RB

It's getting tiring. ***** In defence of J5 he was not the one who sent the email. I do regret posting that P.S. note (it was in bad form) and I apologize to both the ANONYMOUS SENDER & CA. It will not happen again. Time to head out and find some caches now guys! Remember, this is supposed to be fun! Happy Trails! RB
