  1. also miss the days of thought being put into a cache listing. latest cache published in our area is just another micro by a baseball field that has had many caches hidden around it over the years. None have lasted more than a few months and the only thing the CO could think of to put on his cache page was "Just waiting to be found". if his past holds true it will stick around until it gets muggled and then he will claim it as a find and archive it. some just need to increase that find count any way they can. guess all I can really say is to each their own, for me it will just be one more to add to our ignore list.
  2. I disagree,. Why are there so many LPCs and power trails? Because they're getting found a lot. Who'd go find a parking lot LPC if it didn't add +1 to the smiley count. you have edited your comment where you mentioned that you thought people would quit if GS did away with numbers on profiles, guess you must have remembered saying that you would possibly quit if they took away numbers
  3. I don't believe the majority of people are that shallow that they only play for the number. If GS did away with find counts I'm sure they would sustain just as well tomorrow as they have since the beginning of the game. I feel for most it's more about getting off the couch and into the outdoors than anything else
  4. my old garmin 60csx from back in 2006 is a lot more accurate then my garmin Oregon from 2010. Since we are talking about accuracy of newer to older units I prefer a cache hidden with an older unit over one hidden with a new smart phone any day.
  5. not sure but I'd guess there would also be a term for the opposite also. but since you know there is a term for your way of thinking why don't you share it with us.
  6. I don't think there are as many PM's out there as you think that cache just for the competitive side of it. It might be a side game to many, but not the sole purpose they play. If competition was taken out of the mix they might lose a handful of memberships but not enough to hurt them. this game was sustaining itself long before it became competitive to some.
  7. lets reword that to the way that quote would read if GS would turn back the clock and reinstate the old guideline of you shouldn't hide a cache every 528 feet just because you can. if you're not having fun you have nobody to blame but yourself". The quantity game is ALWAYS going to be here to play, that game just takes a little more work to play.("the game is what you make it") Why should those of us that miss the way the game use to be more about Quality over Quantity have to be the one that work harder to enjoy the game. If things would have stayed the way they were back in the old days of caching when the guidelines stated that you shouldn't hide a cache every 528 feet just because you could. The game would still be the same but those that played for numbers would just have t work a little harder to keep those numbers climbing at the rate they do now. I would still like to see GS make find counts private and see if power trails are still as popular as they are now. think of all the numbers people that would be in here crying if that ever happened.
  8. the few times we have cached up North, especially around Detroit those things were all over the place
  9. or maybe people are just tired of cachers not trading properly with the larger caches, so they decided they might as well just put out a nano and save the frustration. It gets old putting out a nicely stocked cache just to have the first couple of finders raid all of the good swag and replace it with their broken McDonalds toys/trash or rocks they found at the cache site
  10. Link provided just brings you to the search page
  11. I say if it is hidden exactly the same, as in same location, container and style of hide then unarchive. no reason to get two smileys for the same cache. if there are any changes to container, style or location then resubmit for a new GC# and make it a new cache
  12. Just saw the cache you are talking about and I wouldn't be able to help you with that on as that cacher was never really very active. Not sure if they ever showed up to any of the events we use to have in town. your best bet is to follow the advice above. it will take a little longer but you could eventually take over the site and place a new cache. just write up your cache page now to somewhat hold the spot if it gets archived.
  13. I am also from Panama City and if you can send me a PM though my profile and give me cache owners name I might be able to help you get in contact.
  14. What type of camping are you looking to do? Tent or RV? Primitive or are you looking for someplace that at least has running water and bathrooms? The Econfina WMA will be all primitive with no amenities. or you can look at some of the state parks like Blackwater or Rocky Bayou in Crestview.
  15. We have a local cacher that logs all his caches as found just before he archives them. Guess what ever it takes to boost those numbers.
  16. Once you make it up here to the panhandle you might want to take a look at these caches. They are designed to help you discover Florida history through museums and archaeological sites. Once you make it to Panama City try this one out Pet Cemetery out for a great night cache.
  17. LOL, posting an NA, complaining about the inappropriateness of the cache/location, but more than willing to go back and claim FTF. Phhhttt. Hypocrites. B. I have to agree with the above statement. Pfffftttt hypocrites. it kills me how some want to complain about how inappropriate a cache is but still think they must get that all mighty smiley. there are 2 NAs posted now and both found the cache before they posted their NAs. Got to keep that map clean and those numbers climbing above all else. from the pic on the cache page it looks like the store is in a decent part of town and people are just complaining because they have nothing better to do
  18. Maybe this Event Handbook will help you out a little. It was put together by IceCreamMan. He host many events here in Florida. Including Florida Finders Fest which became the 1st Mega event for our state
  19. uniform containers would just be plain boring and there should be no need for them. you would not run into this type of situation if the property owner/manager had given permission for the hide and had knowledge of the cache location and type of container used.
  20. Someone we know? Perhaps if certain Florida cacher did more underwater caches his hat wouldn't be so smelly. Chris Waggoner might have a smelly hat also but that's not the same smelly hat cacher that you are thinking of
  21. while not as many as some listed here this cache still deserves being mentioned. VIEW CARRE ' in New Orleans has 488 points.
  22. Sounds like you are taking the easy way out. You asked if you should contact the owner in your original post and now that pretty much everyone has told you that would be the right thing to do you want to back away. If you didn't really want to go with the advice you received here then why did you post here to begin with. There are so many listing sites out there besides this one that it could be listed on. How would we like it if members of other sites removed our caches just because they didn't agree with something in the cache placement. here are a few examples of other listing sites that cache could be listed on: navicache.com TerraCaching.com GPSgames.org opencaching.us OpenCaching.com
  23. No it seems I can't. I went to do a maintenance run the other day and it seems that I am the only one that can't find it. I logged a DNF on my cache and since that day it has been found 2 or 3 more times. Guess I need to head back out and try again so I can get the log replaced
  24. there are so many people that use this site that it would be impossible to make everyone happy. you need to think that what is questionable to you might not be to someone else and there could be things that others find questionable that you don't. the only way to keep from publishing caches with names that others might find questionable is to stop letting cachers name their own cache and go with something generic like the GC#. If you are worried about taking you family to a cache that you find questionable then the best thing you can do is filter out the caches that don't fit your perception of a good family oriented cache and put the others on ignore.
  25. No I don't think you should be able to log your own cache. At the same time I don't feel you should log your own event either for the same reason as GOF and Bacall gave for logging your own cache. If you are hosting an event it is already assumed that you are attending and you got credit for your attendance on your Geocaches Owned list I have hosted an event that I didn't get to attend. The person who host our monthly breakfast hasn't attended several of his events. Your assumption that you attend you own events is false. That is why I "attend" my own events. Same here, I've hosted events and not attended. I also wish that we could DNF events. I happens. but you still got credit for hosting the event, why should you also get credit for attending? That's just my opinion, which I know doesn't count for anything and I'm not losing any sleep over knowing that others feel different. after all it is just a game
