  1. You will eventually get another report, depending upon the frequency you set for that query. I have several queries that I receive every day. I download the attachment into the same folder every day so that the older ones get replaced. This keeps my GSAK information current, so long as I "open" that whole folder of .zip files (you don't need to unzip the .gpx files for GSAK, it can handle .zip!!) every time there has been an update. Very handy feature!
  2. I don't use placenames at all when geocaching. But I remember once downloading placenames and thinking "how cool for backpacking." Is it still possible to download placenames? Since I have forgotten how I did it, it seems that now it is only possible to get a list of placenames. What's the deal? Or is there any other place to get placenames.
  3. I use a Zire 71, GSAK and Plucker. I am not too much of a note taker when I am caching, so the info that GSAKs HTML pages supply is about all I need. I keep my eTrex Summit constantly full of the closest 475 geocaches to whatever destination I have for the day. That's easy to do. Plucker takes a little while to translate the HTML, but it has great output. And since Plucker is already there, I can have stuff from my own website, The Onion, slashdot and all that, right there next to my caching pages! Wohoo... But I would like to hook my PDA and eTrext together using Cachemate. That seems pretty neat. I had been thinking of doing that using Solus from DeLorme, but I tried it and it was awful .
  4. Hmm... Looks a lot like this one: Symbols Encyclopedia Maybe not though. If so, someone using that symbol might be kind of scary. O_chemist
  5. Well I have owned two Subarus, and I didn't like the first one. It was my very first car. Now, years later, I own a 2001 Outback VDC that I have already put 76k miles on. I admit that my experience is especially enhanced by a great dealership that I can trust (Santa Cruz Subaru) even though I know of people who have got theirs from bad dealers (Steven's Creek). I digress... Subaru changed their motors in the mid nineties, and they have become much better, and have a lot more power. My VDC is very nice because it has 212 hp and gets 27 mpg on my commute! I really enjoy it and find it to be the best vehicle I have ever driven in poor weather. I differ in the opinion that you can get a better Honda for the same price. Hondas are much more expensive if you actually put the options on them to match a subie. As far as quality goes... I have had no problems. And looks? Well, somebody said that they are fugly. That must be somebody that doesn't like wagons in the first place. I like wagons, and I especially love the combination of cargo space, passenger space, and low center of gravity. It isn't an SUV that will roll if you back out of your parking space too fast. Also, I prefer AWD to 4WD. I sacrifice a little bit of turning radius and gas mileage in order to have my safety devices on all the time. Unless you are an actual 4 wheeler, wouldn't you want it on all the time? I am not going to stop on the side of the road when the rain starts, but I sure want all four wheels working together when it is raining! IMHO
  6. sneaker net (n): a network for exchanging electronic information that relies upon your sneakers (shoes) to carry the data from place to place . So here's the thing. It is legal to make a CD of MP3s, you just can't sell it. I have heard of caches themed to trading out your old VHS tapes and DVDs, or even new CDs. But I was thinking about a cache that was themed to trading CD-ROMs of MP3s this would be a great way to trade music. I actually have enough un-copyrighted music to only place royalty free stuff when I originally placed the cache. I would instruct cachers to only place legal stuff too... but you never know what people would do. I couldn't prevent them from placing stuff, but I wouldn't want my cache denied approval because of the concept. Anybody tried this? Anybody been denied?
  7. Well, 200 lbs certainly isn't a dog... But if you actually have a dog (mine is 90 lbs) then I would highly recommend looking into a Subaru for your next caching vehicle. You have lots of choices, but any of the hatchbacks or wagons are great for dogs (they even make factory accessories for dogs!). I have a 2001 Outback H6-3.0 VDC which has 212 horsepower, leather seats, two sunroofs, a great spot for my dog , all wheel drive and ..... 27 mpg! The new ones have OnStar built in too!
