  1. I think your proposal will work with a bit of adjustment. I'll be looking for the resubmission also.
  2. Well done. Thanks for giving the officers some flexibility for widely dispersed examples. I was glad to add my yea vote. David
  3. One possibility would be to put a limit on how many one waymarker may post at a given museum or complex. For example, the Woodmen of the World category limits each poster to four markers in a given cemetery. David
  4. It appears you have one waymark for a collection such as in a museum. What about a situation such as Old Alabama Town in Montgomery, Alabama, where buildings have been moved to a site? For example, there is a working area with a wagon for hauling cotton and a residence area with a carriage house with a carriage.
  5. It gets even more interesting. I tried the Dated Buildings and Cornerstones one again, but changed the coordinates to put it farther from the other one, and it took. After uploading photos, I corrected the coordinates and the submission went through.
  6. This gets more interesting. I was able to submit one successfully in another category just now. The difference was that the dated category had a waymark in the .5 mile radius. Could that be the clue?
  7. I tried to submit a new waymark in the Dated Buildings and Cornerstones Waymark Category, but after repeated attempts in both Firefox and IE, I keep hitting the 500 - Server Error Page. I tried to fill out the error form that page led me to, but it will not allow a submission without a security word. I can see that others have successfully posted recently in this category. Is there any way to find out what I could be doing wrong?
  8. Our Waymarking geocoin arrived today! I have activated it and moved it to our collection. I cannot upload a photo to the forum but you can see the photo that lumbricus posted earlier.
  9. Actually, after seeing your post, I am reminded that a previous forum entry about your caches must be what I was thinking about. The main difference is that I decided to go with easy rather than challenging to encourage as many as possible to give Waymarking a try. I like your writeup on GC3N5JJ. Now I need to see if I qualify for that one after a couple of years of being active in Waymarking.
  10. The cache is GC4JM1D. Here's another attempt at the link: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=cf1680e0-0218-4083-ab58-a90f75cc9413 Not everyone will be interested in Waymarking. My hope is just to help some who do not know of Waymarking discover it and see if they find something they can enjoy doing.
  11. Picking up on an idea discussed a few months ago on the forum, I decided to create a geocache that involved Waymarking. In my case, though, I made it fairly easy so cachers might be encouraged to give it a try. The folks going for the cache have to have found 10 geocaches, 10 benchmarks, and 10 waymarks. The name is "10 - 10 - 10 Challenge" and it can be found at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=cf1680e0-0218-4083-ab58-a90f75cc9413. It has been out a few days, and the number of my waymarks with visits has really gone up. Maybe we might get some new active waymarkers out of this. David
  12. The roundabout on East Commerce Street in Greenville, Alabama, is a bit different. It is the site of the Butler County Courthouse, built in 1903.
  13. The name may be affected by the decisions as to how to limit the category. If the focus is on the dedication, perhaps that should be in the name.
  14. This does sound like a good idea. As was pointed out, the definition will be very important as it will help waymarkers distinguish what would fit into this category rather than another one. I'm interested in helping. David
  15. I just experienced one of those two minute approvals. Thanks lumbricus! Guess mid-afternoon your time was a good time to post.
  16. It seems like you have something specific in mind, so how would you define your "places to do geneology research" so that waymarkers can clearly decide which category the location belongs in? For example, there are libraries with geneology sections which fit in the libraries category. I even posted one myself. See WMDZZE, Thomasville Genealogical, History & Fine Arts Library - Thomasville, Georgia http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMDZZE_Thomasville_Genealogical_History_Fine_Arts_Library_Thomasville_Georgia. David
  17. I was recently promoted in a category to officer level 1, but noticed that I cannot get to the Past Activity tab. It goes to a 500-server error message page. It has happened with both IE and Firefox. Is this a known problem? I can provide more details if needed. David
  18. I just submitted my sticker for approval. We will be at Geowoodstock, but if you don't spot our name tags during the activities, we will volunteering at the Travel Bug area during the noon time slot. Of course, now I have to remember to bring the sticker (I suspect that's in the fine print somewhere). David
  19. This sounds like a great idea. Let me know if I can help.
  20. Thanks to the great advice, my first attempt has been done. You can see the results at WMH0T5, First White House of the Confederacy - Montgomery, AL, at http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMH0T5_First_White_House_of_the_Confederacy_Montgomery_AL While this is old hat for some of you, I have enjoyed learning something new. Sure, I learned just enough to get the job done, but you gotta start somewhere. Come to think of it, that is probably one reason why I have enjoyed Waymarking. I have learned so much from visits to waymarks or from the research to post new ones. I digress. Thanks again.
  21. It took a bit to figure out the correct download amid the other software they were offering, but I got it. The learning curve was easier with your guidance. I need to learn more, but it is a start. I was going to show you the first try, but I need to figure out how to insert a photo here in the forum posts. Another learning opportunity. I have a busy few days coming up but hope to write and submit a waymark in that category soon now that I have a default photo. Learning something new is fun. Thank you again.
  22. Thank you lumbricus! You make it look easy enough for a guy like me to do. I will look for the software after this response. Your patience in helping me is appreciated. I won't say I'm old, but I did learn to type on an old non-electric typewriter. Now if I can just remember not to use white-out on the monitor screen... Thanks again, David
  23. I was just looking at the Picture Perfect Postcards category and noticed so many people had split photos with the postcard and current photo in one image. That seems like an interesting trick to learn, so would someone like to share how it is done? That comes under the area of one of those things I need to learn about to be a "real" waymarker, like html, but never have. Thanks, David
