  1. It is really awesome a really nice site with a lot of hard work. I am depressed because I am number 33 in Louisiana. I only found 19 out of 253 caches in the state. Capn Skully Vini Vidi Velcro I came I saw I stuck around.

I'll follow the progress and I'm certainly my kids would find it interesting as well. Perhaps, if it's possible, place a physical cache on the way to or at the photo location and ask that the logbook be signed as well as a picture be submitted to the website. If anyone doesn't have a digital camera, they can use a disposable camera that you leave in the cache. If placing a cache large enough to contain a logbook and camera is not possible, do it as a virtual -- I'd bet that you'd get a lot of people watching and doing it with great interest. And regarding this silly argument about physical vs virtual caches... sometimes the view and creativity of the cache placer is the real treasure. I'd happily do this cache. If the area won't allow for a regular cache then Virtual is the way to go. I am quoting Jomarac5 because he/she expressed it better than I can. I am also putting a "PLEA" on the card to send me on my way within a week or don't remove it so someone else can try. I hope it works and maybe Groundspeak can incorporate something similar on the bug itself? I did the same to my new TB. In fact I didn't even attach the dog tag, just a laminated fact card. 6. My father was a beekeeper here in Louisiana. He used to raise bees to sell for beekeepers in the northern states that can't keep bees year round. Several time he witnessed so called "sportsmen" shooting his bee hives. The best part was these mental cases were teaching their children the same lesson, that it is ok shoot up other peoples property. I don't have anything against hunters but these guys need to have their guns confiscated and ban them from buying more. They only make legitimate law abiding gun owners look bad. 10. quote:Originally posted by jeff35080:_I am just trying to understand a little better how the marks work and how they are used._ As am I Capn.... but I don't think it is something that can be summed-up in one or two paragraphs. The more I learn about it, the more I understand how complicated it is, yet simple at the same time. It's hard for me to explain what I mean by that statement. It's simple in that marks are set at known locations, yet it is complicated in how those locations were derived. I know the markds are still relevant because I still see surveyors using them. I guess what I'm trying to say is that people like survey tech, Trailblazer, Kewaneh & Shark and others have a lot of information to share with us, but since many of us are not in the trade it may be hard for some of us to grasp the information that they fully understand. I have spent a lot of time reading info at the NGS site and it has really helped me understand a lot about benchmarks. Anyways, I do appreciate the information that is shared here in this forum and have never felt like anyone was more 'elite' than I, even why I ask stupid questions. Cheers! Jeff http://www.StarsFellOnAlabama.com http://www.NotAChance.com If you hide it, they will come.... Kewaneh & Shark did a fine job of answering my question. Enough information to help me understand what the various marks mean. That is all I wanted. Capn Skully Vini Vidi Velcro I came I saw I stuck around
  11. My family and I went to Mardi Gras yesterday. I really dislike the parades, trash, loud music and drunken sots falling on me. Plus the weather was crappy to boot. One interesting thing did happen we gathered five grocery bags full of geo-loot, trinkets, beads, plastic toys, stuffed animals and other totally useless junk. I see folks here complaining about McToys but you havn't seen cache-trash until you have seen the Mardi Gras. I did get six doubloons from REX that depict the Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial, I will make one or two into travel bugs the rest will go into caches as trades. The rest of the junk will go into the trash can. Capn Skully Vini Vidi Velcro I came I saw I stuck around
  12. quote:Originally posted by Criminal:My theory: _1_. They have a find deleted by some overbearing cache owner who has placed tedious requirements for logging. _2_. They ask a simple question in the forums and some sanctimonious do-gooder b1tch-slaps them for it. _3_. They read the pointless debates about the _proper_ type of cache container, low environmental impact search methods, and endless drivel from some holier-than-thou player who believes they alone are enlightened and thus in authority. _4_. They read about the almost constant knee-jerk demand for more rules because of some isolated incident, real or imagined. _5_. Other cachers who feel the find-count alone determines a player’s worthiness degrade them. No, I’m not cynical; I just need a beer tonight. http://fp1.centurytel.net/Criminal_Page/ All of the above except number one, has happened to me. I need a beer too. 13. When I find a bug I email the owner to let them know my plans. I had the SHREK TB and planned to drop him in Mississippi. It didn't work out. The next weekend I took him to another part of Mississippi and dropped him off. He promptly returned to a cache about five miles from his original cache where I found him. So, I took him again to another cache. My heartbreak is when a TB was placed in my cache and the cache was stolen. I replaced the cache and the replacement was stolen. Naturally I emailed the TB owners and reported the problem with the cache. Capn Skully Vini Vidi Velcro I came I saw I stuck around
  14. I am just trying to understand a little better how the marks work and how they are used. I worked for the Army Corps of Engineers as a rod man. I was told to stand over this brass disk, hold my rod vertical and we took elevation readings. When a brass disk wasn't available we made a TBM Temporary Bench Mark on the edge of a concrete slab or other fixed object. Now some 25 odd years later I am curious about what the different types are. I don't need a text book perfect answer. It sounds to me some of you guys are upset that you had to read the manual and learn this stuff to do your job. Now you don't wish to share your knowledge, that is ok too. Like I said if you don't want to help don't reply. If you ask me what a retention schedule is, I am not going to send you to the ARMA.ORG website. I'll tell you it is a plan for keeping and destroying company records according to approved legal business practices. That may not be the textbook approved answer but it is close enough for this discussion. So get over it, you started it with vague go look it yourself up answers. 16. quote:Originally posted by Mopar:That's not true, at least around here. The "rag hangers" consider themselves elite, and most won't socialize with the powerboaters on the same dock. And we won't even mention what most sail and power boaters think of PWC operators! + _Tae-Kwon-Leap is not a path to a door, but a road leading forever towards the horizon. _ I don't have anything against power boaters, I used to have a power boat. There is a "higher order" among yacht club sailors and ordinary sailors like me. I do think it takes more skill to sail than to jump in a boat and turn the key and drive away. Calling me a rag hanger won't get you anywhere any more than if I called you a stink potter. BTW, a good set of "rags" could cost you $4K to $8K a set. Much more than an outboard motor but uses no fuel. As far as PWC riders I didn't have anything against them until they took up riding towards me a full throttle and then swerving and spraying us with their wake. 17. I have lost three caches in a month. One of them twice. I have been stomped and kicked by newbies and elitist cachers alike. I don't know why I keep doing it. Even the benchmark finders have a couple of elitist that won't even answer a simple legitimate question. I guess I want to succeed. Sailing has a different community, I don't see the petty jealousy and trolling like I do here. I see people that enjoy a sport and want to help others succeed. Granted one of my caches was probably lost because some fisherman stumbled upon it. The other one had to be stolen by someone knowing the cache was there. The Jury is still out. I know I won't be geocaching in the summer months just doing maintenance but will I continue? I don't know. Capn Skully Vini Vidi Velcro I came I saw I stuck around
  18. To me IM would be an Instant Message service such as ICQ, AOL Instant Messenger or MSN Instant Message. Typically each service has a unique address that you would provide such as ICQ has a unique number that is your address. When you boot up and log on most IM services also connect especially MSN. If you ever get MSN it is almost impossible to disable or get rid of. I hope this answers your question. Capn Skully Vini Vidi Velcro I came I saw I stuck around
  19. Thanks for the straight answers. Part of my job is providing computer software support. If I told my users to go read 650 page manual so they could change their access password I wouldn't keep my job very long. Of course this is all voluntary, so if the two elitist don't wish to help they shouldn't bother to answer the question at all. Capn Skully Vini Vidi Velcro I came I saw I stuck around

Does all that come for the $13.50? http://fp1.centurytel.net/Criminal_Page/ For $6.75 per month / (lower rate if you pay per year) at Hosting U you get everything you need, domain name and server. I am just suggesting approch it like geocaching. Read the FAQ at both sites, study the sites and see what they offer. If you have questions send me an email. 23. quote:Originally posted by Moun10Bike:I like this suggestion. How do you feel, though, about a plastic sealed tube containing chocolate sprinkles that is placed in a generic location, and being required to email the hider as to how many sprinkles are in the tube in order to log the find? How about the next step, in which it is a plastic tube containing _nothing_, with the same logging requirements? Do you feel that these are acceptable caches? http://geocachingwa.org I personally don't feel that either is a good cache. I would carefully read the instructions and then send an email to the cacher, "What's the point?" I am against rules applied to me and not others. I am against rules that will stifle creativity. I have seen some really unique and fine caches on this site and with the current mentality I see displayed (not by you) I wonder how the caches were ever approved. 24. These days you go to the airport get your boarding pass and sit in the waiting area. Another person comes along, gets a boarding pass sits down nearby. That person gets up and wanders over to the coffee bar. In a few minutes myself and several other passengers are notifying the airline folks and security about the abandoned baggage. I hope the guy placing the cache doesn't get fined or in some kind of trouble over this. Capn Skully Vini Vidi Velcro I came I saw I stuck around
