  1. I notice at the Quads cache machine that quite a few people had the newer units capable of running the Wherigo. There is 2nd cache close by the same parking lot for alterative cache I guess. Most of the time, I notice at every cache stop there was always another cacher just leaving or showing up as you arrive at a cache. I can always email the final coords to anyone that wants them or can't get the cartridge to work. I've done that before. The Wherigo builder can also be download by Windows PC. There is a emulator that actually runs the cartridge on the PC. You can play the cartridge on the PC then write down the coords once the cartridge displays the coords. Then the corrected coords can be plugged into a gps after that. There has been multi's on the cache machine route before, that the final coords where in our hands before we started the cache machine. A Wherigo to me is just a very interactive multi-cache. We could hand out the coords anyone who want these before hand if needed.
  2. Motel 6 was displaying $44.99 on the sign near the mall exit.
  3. I use Powerex 2700 mah chargeables by MAHA. I noticed a big difference is the charger they also sell is better as it charges the batteries individual instead of groups of two and four. I use the MH-C800S which charges up to eight cells at once. I also can quick check the level of the batteries in the charger before heading out, and weed out the weaker cells and use the recondition feature on the charger to try to fix the weaker ones. I use to use Engerizers & Rayovacs in the past, but buying a good charger makes a big difference.
  4. I have 2 Colorado's. No Returns here. I have had to clean the wheel and add some silicon to it, better than brand new on the wheel.
  5. You forget the first Wherigo in Washington State. The first cache machine that includes a Wherigo? GC1A738 -- So Simple. Even a Caveman can find it. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...bd-c353e65f5aed It's a 5 minute cache with 200 ft from parking. It's a quick cartridge. John
  6. You will need to add the extentsion of ".ASPX" as a valid filename extension. Either use FEADIE.cab or Resco Explorer 2007 to install the extentsion, then you will able to use SAVE AS in IE. http://www.smartmadsoft.com/feadie/feadie.cab http://www.modaco.com/content/smartphone-s...ie/#entry973037 Each gpx file download with IE saves as cache_details.aspx, and this file name will import into cachemate. Opera quits half way during download for gpx files. IE is the browser I use. John
  7. Where exactly are you putting those settings? Is it in your GPS or somewhere on the website? I'm having issues with the long file names but I can't figure out where these settings need to go. The settings are entered into GSAK export GPX, not on the nuvi. GSAK is geocaching software for the PC.
  8. When I was using google maps earlier, it was ignoring caches on my ignore list that where traditional caches, but all other cache types that I ignore still show up, but you can turn off those cache types individually. John
  9. Tools --> Settings --> Navigation --> Route Preference = Off Road. Make sure you are in Walking mode first. You can access the compass from: 1. the main menu 2. Pressing the green button in the NW corner of the screen. 3. Under tools, 2nd page always has the compass, no matter what mode it's in. The Route preference will make the difference if you have a arrow to the cache or not.
  10. It sounds like the typical behavior if you went off route. Check the Follow Road Options menu under the Routing menu in Setup. Off Route Recalculation = Automatic or Prompted. I usually use Automatic. If off is selected, it doesn't know what to do. If you are riding a bike it's going to recalculate quite often, because your usually on the very edge of the road and not towards the center of the road like a car drives. In the map setup, if lock on road is off, it will recalculate quite often too. But for geocaching, you want lock on road = off. On the routing menu, Guidance Method should be Prompted. So each time you the recalculate option it gives you a choice. I usually do a recalculate before reaching the cache so I can select off road, so I am looking at a straight route to the cache.
  11. On the 2.94, I'm having problems with using goto a waypoint. Unit likes to shut down.
  12. The springs in the pins that secure next the gps connection eventually go bad, if they get pushed in too far, or the connection knob gets tighten too tight. I had a few of these cables go bad on me.
  13. GPS Settings for 315... NMEA = OFF Baud Rate = 4800 or lower.
  14. GCQPP5 Splish Splash Plop -- Need a boat? It's on a island, but cache owner's terrain rating is a 2. GCGDFZ Vandal Art Walk -- 11 multi-waypoint virtual tour. Last log 12/20/2007. Looks time consuming. GC14TAV WSU Tower -- .30 mile hike from parking lot. GC13NX4 It's Beachy! -- DNF? questionable. GC18MNQ Rest Hollow -- Cache been replaced?
  15. I zoom in to about 800ft and I can see where the 100K contour tiles didn't align up to the next tile, you can actually see where the tiles are at in mapsource.
  16. That's the feature I like the most with these gps's. I keep my CN on the memory, and update NW trails and the other maps with the card reader. I don't even have to turn on the gps and wait for the gps to go into File transfer mode with a card reader.
  17. Is this exclusive to those units, or can the GPSmap 60 units do it too - upload maps separately to memory and the data card? I'd sure love to be able to upload NW Trails more frequently, without spending a half hour reloading the entire mapset. from what I understand this is just the Colorado and the Oregon. I wish it was for other units, I also have to reload everything. Some of the Nuvi's have the same feature. The Nuvi 500 has 50ft contour TOPO and CN as one map on pre-program, so that leaves the card open or the memory open for adding more supp maps.
  18. I gave it look over on Saturday. Here is a few things I noticed. 1. Highway 101 is in the water on the west coast by N47 42.772 W124 25.011 2. The strait to the Puget Sound is missing the bodies of water. The Columbia river disappears at Interstate 90. It comes up Tan like the land color. 3. There is funny looking contour errors out in the sea on west coast. I saw the same thing when I was processing Dem files too. It looks like needs crop to the State borders. 4. The Interstate Flags are missing. 5. The USGS GNIS POI data is missing. Overall, the contours look good. The streams look good until it runs into a body of water, since the body of water and streams are two different colors, the streams show though on the lake as well, but I noticed that on the Idaho and Nevada topo as well. I haven't tried it on the gps yet, just looking at it with Mapsource. John
  19. I also have Idaho 24k topo from gpsfiledepot, except for little differents in the type of lines used for the roads, and land usage coloring, it looks pretty close to the same. I was working on Washington Topo 24 K for awhile, but my work schedule picked up after the holidays, and I didn't finish it. I have all the 40ft contour shape files for dem, but GpsMapEdit was having virtual memory fits converting to MP files. I also have the Tiger data for 2008 done, poi, land use, just need to finish downloading water data and process that too. I guess there is talk over at gpsfiledepot about WA and OR coming out soon, they have a few guys working on it also. They just finish Nevada this month.
  20. Hi Chip, I think it also needs some software help as well, the ability to tie into other software like gsak, cachemate, or gpsbabel and the ability to read gpx files. No one is going to upgrade from the GPSMAP60csx if the upgrade can't do what their previous gps did. I have one of your BT-20 bluetooth gps, and it works great with cachemate or google maps if there is a cell connection. John
  21. If your still looking for more information on the Magellan. I still have my Magellan gps's before I switch to a Garmin. All the Magellan's I have used, you have two active maps running at the same time, one is the background map for when the map is zoomed out. Then detail maps that kick in when the unit reaches a certain zoom level when you zoom in. But, you can add all the maps you want to the unit and select which map you want active. So you can have topo and trails in the unit, but only one can be active at a time. John
  22. Create a 2nd geocache point file and load that one, then switch back. Or you can select no file, and load the first geocache file. I had this problem a lot when I deleted the Caches Found file. The gps doesn't know if to display found icons or cache icons, so it doesn't display anything because the Cache Found file needs recreated when you select a geocache file. John
  23. Download the KML plugin and install. Select the caches for export, change it from gpx to kml. Remove the first line from the kml with a text editor, he has a bug in the export feature that needs fixed. Use the file explorer and run the kml. Make sure you have WM 6.1 and the lastest google maps, and it will work.
  24. I should of add Feature Request: to the topic subject.
  25. I have a question about the notification service. There is lots of options and settings for which cache types and types of log notifications. The one type of option that I would like to see is to attach an gpx file to the notification or a clickable address link that will download the gpx file. It would sure be cool to open a email notification on my blackjack 2, save the file attached gpx file, open cachemate and import the gpx and go find the cache. I know you have to be a premium member to get the notification service in the first place, why not get the gpx file at the same time. John
