  1. quote:Originally posted by blscearce:I'd like to offer a service that converts these GPX files into, say, a Plucker database. Would Groundspeak Inc have any kind of problem with this? I'd hate to sink a bunch of work into a project that would have to be shut down. When you say a "Plucker database", what does that mean? GPX (or any XML format/layout) is pretty much already a "database". I haven't bothered with Plucker, but I have seen it mentioned here and there. EDIT: Nevermind... I hit the Plucker homepage and checked it out myself. The main problem I have with that is that no matter what final "format" you put data into, it's "wrong" for me. I want my final output to look just so and include just so much data, as each person does. And the only way we'll each be able to have that is for the "raw" data to be available for use by each person's stylesheet. Then you can boil it down to an ebook, or retain Jeremy's original look and feel, or (my choice) print 4 text-only cache pages per page. > Martin (Magellan 330) Don't have time to program and record your shows while geocaching? 2. If I make a serious attempt to find a cache (ie, ground zero on the coords), I'm either getting a smilie or a frownie. If I can't find it, but I'm gonna hit it again tomorrow, I won't log anything til my last trip (unless I want a hint, and then it's usually an email to someone first). If I get to the parking lot and decide I'm too tired, and 10 caches is enough for today, I don't log anything. I mean, who cares? Use the log for cache-related stuff. If a person's ego is so fragile that you can't bear the thought of someone else (who you probly don't even know!) thinking you're less than perfect, GET OFF THE PEDESTAL... WE NEED THE MARBLE! Some of my not-founds make me end up looking purty stupid. So what? I get a laugh out of it just like the next guy, and often I *was* being stupid on that hunt. And occasionally (APE #5) they help fix problems. Log it, get a laugh, get a clue, and go find it. > Martin (Magellan 330) Don't have time to program and record your shows while geocaching? 4. Well, that's what the "Geocaching Announcements" section is supposed to be used for. Let us KNOW what you're working on, and what's the next feature in the pipe. Right now that section hasn't been used since March. The pocket query stuff should have been announced there, and everyone could see it. Otherwise we MIGHT see a mention of it in the forums, but we'd probably miss it. And remember how few geocachers read the forums at all. You're the only person that can post in that section, Jeremy. Use it! > Martin (Magellan 330) Don't have time to program and record your shows while geocaching? Get a TiVo!

  6. Bernie & Sheri: Um... it's 2 posts above yours. Shoebox: great explanation! PCGeekz: did your question get answered? The other answer is that the GC3E4C or whatever ID is just an agreed-upon geocaching.com-issued ID number for the cache. There is only one GC3E4C, and it will always be that cache. However, you can put anything you want in the waypoint's ID field. I prefer to put a word from the cache name in there, since TEDDY (for Teddy's Treasure) means more to me than GC1234. That's all there is to the waypoint ID... no magic. Totally separate from the waypoint coordinates. > Martin (Magellan 330) Don't have time to program and record your shows while geocaching? 8. If you want to try to find benchmarks without any photo help, just don't look at the photos! You have to click to see them. This is a different game from geocaching (notice the orange background instead of green!), and as Webling said, benchmarks are supposed to be found and reported, not hidden under a pile of rocks. Posting a photo and then labeling it a spoiler is kinda silly... ANY photo is a spoiler, unless you are reporting a destroyed benchmark. > Martin (Magellan 330) Don't have time to program and record your shows while geocaching? Get a TiVo!

  11. And now they ARE counted on your "stats" page. Separate category, just like travel bugs. > Martin (Magellan 330) Don't have time to program and record your shows while geocaching? Get a TiVo!

  13. I have a suggestion for you... make a separate geocaching page for your personal website, and keep a table of all of your trades. Maybe even a note if you really liked the cache. I bet within a week you'd quit updating it. > Martin (Magellan 330) Don't have time to program and record your shows while geocaching? Get a TiVo!

  17. I'll be there. I did the Microcache in Philly last year... what a hoot to be searching for a cache in a newspaper box on a crowded downtown Philadelphia street corner! As the con gets nearer, I'll start searching for caches in and around the con area. I think there's one within walking distance right now. We might even have to get together and leave one for posterity. > Martin (Magellan 330) Don't have time to program and record your shows while geocaching? Get a TiVo!
  18. quote:Originally posted by n1niq:I justed checked the link. Perhaps Geocaching.com could become an approved agency. That could be a boost for the hobby. Chris Jeremy: is there any chance Geocaching.com could become an "approved agency"? It seems that other private companies are in the list. The recovery page says to contact the person at the bottom of the page.... "Email: Deb.Brown@noaa.gov". > Martin (Magellan 330) Don't have time to program and record your shows while geocaching? 21. I had created a "find something on every trail" cache out there, put up 90% of the "signage", but had one "sign" and the cache box to put out. I never finished it, but I suppose most of it is still out there... I wonder if they've come across my clues? > Martin (Magellan 330) Don't have time to program and record your shows while geocaching? Get a TiVo!
