  1. Another one of these threads to go along with the other 3 pages that I found on this topic. When you have a problem with a cache you should email the appover and discuss it with them first before coming to here. And it is really hard to see what the issue is when you don't post a link to the problem cache, or cut and paste it.
  2. Travel Bug Travel Bug No this is not a bad idea, Here are 2 bugs that I have put out with a youth group and there goals are similar. Go for it and let the girls have fun with the project. There are also alot of caches with a scouting theme Scout theme caches. If you do this send a note home with the web addresses so the girls families can have the url's and follow all the bugs from home and see what there are doing.
  3. Read my nick name and then go to this thread and see what some of us are trying to do
  4. This is not personal but gawnfishin should take his own advice here and maybe learn about all the issues they are talking about in BC and not just this thread.
  5. That's why we must go hunt tupperwear in the woods. The pot I took from my kitchen along with all my wife's tupperwaer is to tight and making me do crazy things in the woods.
  6. Waterfalls of Ontario Web Site
  7. I checked the zip file for the maps of NB that I have and it looks like it only has major roads. This is for version 5.15 of Mapopolois for palm. It is 13 k's Ontario is 7 megs
  8. I have had my gps in many vehicles and watched the speed. It seems to match the speedo in the cars most of the time. Except my car it show I am going 10 km slower then the car says. Thats ok it gives my a cushion when I pass radars. But what do you do when the gps and the car match and you look at the vmg reading on the gps and it says you are going 10 km slower then what the speedo is showing. Could you capture this and show a judge that you were not speeding at that time.
  9. I was helping a guy who got a new gps with a compass built in. It said you had to calibrate by spinning it so many times and some other things. We were in office with a bunch of desk and cabinets and when we tried the compass it was out 180 degrees. We did this operation a bunch of times and still the same. I went out side and tried it and it worked fine, it is best to do not to have metal around. But looking at all your compasses that you have there. Some are hard to use. You should look at one that has the circle over circle, they are easier to learn with. The compass I use This also has all the roamers for plotting utm from your gps to a topo map to mark your location.
  10. Do you have the computer cable for this gps? This unit is the same as the Lowrance GM100. You can use easy gps and set it to Lowrance and transfer you loc file right to the gps. I just went back and checked and Easy gps has this unit listed in the preferences. Just make sure the baud rates are set the same and you should have no problems. Gsak doesn't support Lowrance or Eagle.
  11. And when you are walking around you could waypoint your belongings so you can come back and pick them up later.
  12. Try this link This place could be start and why reinvent the wheel?
  13. Looks like it is going to official in Sept for the gmrs radios. Someone I know at Radio Shack told me they will be having a big sale on there in stock frs radios soon to make room for the new ones they are getting in. I have been using my combo radios from the states and find the range a bit better and find that I can hear others that are further away when I use the scan feature. The other good thing is that when they picked channel 2 as the geocache channel it is on of the ones that falls under the boasted power channels.
  14. This site has neat feature called search This is the results for a search on maps in the Canada forum. All this had been discussed before.
  15. I am not from Barrie but live in Toronto but my parents moved there recently and it has become a home from home. Easier to go caching there then the city I find.
  16. Buy a software program like Softmap that you can print your own maps and carry those with you instead. And get a roamer so you can plot your postion on the printed map. Cheaper then a new gps and there software. If you want more info contact me by email.

    Compass

Good compass to use with your gps Get a compass like this and learn how to use a topo map and read utm cords.
  18. I had to take my Lowrance gps in a few years ago to the factory becaue it had a problem of the punch pad coming unglued. The unit was out off warranty but they were nice and just gave me a refurb and I am still using it today with no problem. They would not sell them but had them there for exchanges only. I think they charged around $150.00 if you had a broken unit and exchanged it.
  19. Total Surface Area: about 509,600,000 square km (197,000,000 square miles). The above is the size of Earth. I use my old Eagle expendition 2 gps for caching still and it says I am with 2 meters of the waypoint. And showing 10 meters of error. If any device that cost me $ 35.00 used can say I am that close to spot and I can't figure out where I am on a map. Then I shouldn't be runnning around the woods looking for tupperware. Lets not only think of the gps for caching but all the other uses too.
  20. I have used this feature when I don't have a topo map of an area but the map has a scale on it. I know I am at the parking lot with my gps and can mark that as a waypoint. I then can set my map to north and use a ruler to measure a distance and put that in the gps and get a waypoint for a trail intesection or what ever I wanted off the map. It is easier to bring a topo though and just input the utm numbers.
  21. I think it the trail that leads to outhouse because it always seems to be the place you meet others in a park and pass greetings onto. Could this be a new name for "less energy"?
  22. After you check off and want to download the first 20 on the page it asks you to save as. Change the name here to what ever you want and it will save it as a loc file. This is in the download box that comes up before it saves the file to your computer.
