  1. So I can save $60 and use the free g7towin and trade my tracks and routes. And see the tracks in a gpx file. And I was right about easgps only doing routes with waypoints. But I live outside the USA and that feature does nothing for me here. So I still say that using the ozi plt format is still one of the best ways to exchange tracks. As that format is read by most stand alone map programs.
  2. I think where the confusion here is that what you are calling a map screen is really known as a plotter screen on most non mapping gps's. Lowrance gps plotter screen. I use this on my non mapping and mapping gps with the maps off. It lets me see where I am and where the marked waypoint is. I found it easier then using the compass screen when navigating. The other nice thing about this screen is that I can mark Icons on it and see them also for finding my way back to the start.
  3. Maybe you could just get another person to run around the lake and stand there with a Rino gps. And then you see them on your Rino.
  4. The simple way is to download the waypoints for the caches in a loc file and then open it up with easy gps. Then make a route up and drag the waypoints that you want in that route into it and then you can upload the route back to your gps. The route than should be plotted on the screen of your gps. Read here it explains about making a route
  5. When you download a track from the gps into g7towin and save it as a gpx file. Then when you open this with easygps you are not getting a true track file in the middle pane. It is route made up of all the points taken from the track. I tried a ozi file I have that saves with over 4000 points when I open it in easygps. I can't send it to my gps as it only holds 750 waypoints that are used to make a route in easygps. Which you are seeing in the middle pane. But when I save it as a ozi.plt track file in g7towin and then upload it to my gps it shows as a true track on the gps screen. But even to use the ozi format I have to break the over 4000 points down as my gps can only use 3000 points max in a track file. I just tried and posted both formats to gps visualizer to see what it would draw as and they look the same. So you could use both programs but I will stick with using ozi format myself.
  6. Maybe I have missed some but I have never seen a a track file in a gpx file. They only seem to have routes and waypoints. If it can do tracks post a site that explains it for us. If you want to learn about using g7towin for working with tracks read the article on the site below. g7towin site If you want to see your track online after using g7towin and saved in the ozi.plt file you can use the web site below. track online
  7. Try this program I use this program and there is a few web sites around that use this as exchange program also. It will interface with most makes of gps's. I save my tracks in the ozi format but you can just use the text option. Here is a sample of 2 tracks from 2 gps's using g7towin on a top map.
  8. How to Sh*t in the Woods. Really good book. The book link
  9. I have a old eagel gps that came out in the late 90's and it still works today like it came out of the box.
  10. Unless you are on a long cache hike and have a gps that has no mapping but have a topo map with you. You can then use a roamer and plot your postion to see where you in relation to the cache and where you started from.
  11. Why not just download your loc file from and then get This program and convert the file taht you can then import right into streets and trips and have the caches show up.
  12. I was wondering if anyone gave the grms radios a try on the weekend and found if they worked any better.

    Survey

The below is copied form the survey that this thread is about and to answer the question above. Legislative Proposal 2 - Objectives Include the following objectives in legislation for provincial parks: To provide compatible outdoor recreation opportunities ranging from high-intensity day-use to low-intensity wilderness experiences. To provide opportunities for exploration and appreciation of the outdoor natural and cultural heritage of Ontario. Are there any additional objectives for provincial parks that you believe should be included in legislation? The posted above is part of the survey about Provicial Parks. I copied the 2 questions that I think deal with Geocaching and where we can have our say. The other spot is where this last question is and can put in you comments. We should just say that we want Geocaching as a objective to be considered for a use in the parks. Let us know after you do the survey if I missed any spots where we can mention Geocaching And for those that want to make sure they get the point: Just type in you want Geocaching in any spot on the survey that allows you to add comments.
  14. On my Lowrance there is 3 readings you get. Course: the bearing from where you are to where you need to to go when you first hit the navigate to waypoint. Bearing: After you start moving it is the bearing you need to be heading to stay on the course. And get to the waypoint. Track: The bearing you are heading on at the present time.
  15. Try this feature I find it works the best for finding information here

    Survey

Ontario Parks Survey They are asking for input about what the public wants in Ontario Parks. We should all filll it out and say we want Geocaching in our parks
  17. Read my post above it shows the channels.
  18. Why don't you put a real cache there instead. But then I see that you must live on the mainland and the other spot is on the island and a fair distance away. That would maybe make it a vacation cache which is not allowed either. I think you are wasting your time and they will not a prove your cache. As they want caches that have container and log book at least.
  19. I was in a store in Ottawa this summer. It was located in the market area downtown just east of the Americain Embassy. I think it was on the same street where we had the beaver tails on the corner.
  20. I still use my Eagel expedition 2 and Lowrance gm100 to hunt caches and they always gets me there. I have also hidden caches with them and there has never been problems with others finding the cache. Sure I would like a new one, but if it not broken I can't see replacing it right now. The gm100 has a Quadrifilar antenna. And the Eagle has a patch antenna and I find them about the same except the gm100 gets a signal in the bush bettter and holds it longer.
