  1. #21 You can always know what zulu time it is. #22 When watching tv and they show a map and the coords you can get your gps out and show everyone where it is. I do this when watching Sea Hunters.
  2. Fire Boots I was thinking of a pair of the old fire boots that go up to your thigh for those caches that you encounter water or mud. I should have kept the ld pair that my father had around.
  3. Page 60 to 62 in the online manual. Try here
  4. The above is right. The epe has nothing to do with navigating to a way point. If you go to the screen on your gps that shows your positon when not navigating to a point it is using those cordinates. So if I go to page F on my gm100 the epe will be using those cords and not the waypoint numbers. If you want to find out how this works Find a cache like this and test your gps.
  5. Try this link for more infinder information here
  6. Using the maps with your gps I always have my paper maps with me that I print from my Softmap program for the area that I am going. But having them and not knowing how to use the gps and map is not good. Since I have had my gps and have been using utm to plot my postion on the map I think this is the best thing that a gps has given me. You can turn I gps when you need to and do a quick plot and then carry on with your hike. See this page also. The compass I use
  7. And have you thought what to buy for Mrs Santa yet?
  8. I checked the manual for my Lowrance gm100 gps for entering waypoints and it is really easy. Go to the Lowrance web site and download the manual and read pages 29 to 32. And with my Eagle Expedition 2 it covered in the manual from page 22 to 26.
  9. It only works using map screen 2 and 3. Use the arrow keys to start the cursor movement and it will show your postion at bottom of screen. The push the waypoint button twice to mark that spot as a waypoint.
  10. I think users that provide suport for there software here that you have to pay for should do it through they own web sites. I can't have have a commercial cache so why can they get free support questions here? That would reduce alot of threads here too.
  11. I was looking at the features for Trackmaker and see that you can import ozi files. Get g7towin and you can download your track and save as a ozi.plt file and you should then be able to open it in trackmaker. This should then overlay right over your map. Thats how I do mine.
  12. Here is a track laid over my topo map program. Is this what you want to do? Map Here is the waypoints taken on the same trip on map. waypoints Here is the same parks own trail map. There map
  13. Magnetic declination From this picture you can have over a 20 degree differance in a bearing. You need to know if they took a mag bearing or a true north bearing.
  14. Read here azimuth Forgot to add they should give you a distance and a bearing and tell you if it is mag or true north to set your gps.
  15. Most gps's let you have a screen with 2 postion formats showing. Primary and secondary.
  16. Kodak gps camera. Not sure if they still sell them?
  17. Go to the setup of your gps and change the datum to nad 27. Change the units to utm. Enter the numbers for the waypoints. Go back to your setup and change it back to the 84 datum. Go to units and change the unit back to dd min sec and read the number it the gps will have done the conversion for you.
  18. What model of gps do you have? Does it show you the cordinates in utm? This gets you down to 1 meter accuracy and it is listed on the cache page to. N 45° 04.951 W 079° 29.046 UTM: 17T E 619304 N 4993234 This is the way to get around using a old gps that does not have the third decimal place. I think you should learn how to use a map, compass and a roamer. This would let you read the utm cords and plot them on the topo map you need to carry when you go into the woods.
  19. Would that have to be 5/5 cache as you might require some type of helmet to protect your head from getting hit by a golf ball?
