  1. Hooray!!! The bonfire was awesome! Thx to everyone who attended and made it such a success again this year! I got to meet some new faces, and see some cachers i met before. Unfortunately, the ponies stood us up...and the cheerleaders were replaced by a visit from the ranger...man is that a raw deal (for the guys anyway) but I thought he was a cutie! Teeeeeeeheeeeeeeeee! The little sand crabs paid us a visit and provided great entertainment for the kids. Cacher "wormcatcher" caught Siganl the frog, and he actually took a nap in her shirt pocket without trying to get away! The moon was bright, we even got a glimpse of some shooting stars. There was lots of great food, booze, and lots of conversation about caching, and of course those famous jello shots from Krazy Trollz! We've decided to rename her the Jello shot geocacher. This year we had steaks, pizzas, pies, shrimp, kabobs, corn cobs, beans & weenies, kilbasa, sausages, and more all over the fire! Thre was also the biggest fruit, vegetable and cookie selection ever, alongside the homemade whoopie pie extravaganza! Thx to everyone for coming, thx to my pyromaniacs with their help with the fire, thx to MissJenn with the nametags, and thx to everyone with their help getting things to and from the parking area, and C U next year!!!!! -Pol
  2. THe weather report for tomorrow night is clear and comfortable, with a half moon....perfect for the bonfire! See everyone there!
  3. EXCELLENT!!!!! Have an awesome time! Awesome idea, Velvet!
  4. I googled Hamilton, VA, there are three....don't know which one you're near. Anyway, if you want to drive to ocean city Maryland this weekend, you're welcome to join us at this caching event, Beach Bonfire! There will be plenty of cachers there to help you out.
  5. Plan to arrive at the cache by 10am, and get out of there by 1ish. Otherwise you'll hit all the beach traffic, which will come from both D.C. and Baltimore, along with rush hour. Not pretty. Do not take I95, it will be a mess, and on the stretch between Wilmington DE, and Baltimore, there is a very expensive toll, like $6.00-$8.00 one way, you'd be paying that twice, once on the way to, and once on the way back. YUCK. If i were you, I'd go route 78 or I80 through PA, grab 81S to 83S take that to Baltimore, then grab 695W....(there may be a better way than to go 695 here, a local to the area could be better at elaborating on that. Its been a few years since i lived in Baltimore.) I don't remeber from 695, what roads i took, I think it was 295, but not sure. I do know that you don't want to be anywhere near 695, 95, or 295, or 895 in the baltimore area, or on I95 in the WIlmington De area, or the PHilly area in the afternoon on that day. I can't elaborate on the NYC end or the NJ end of it, don't know much about their traffic patterns.
  6. There's a good joke in there somewhere, but I think I'd get in trouble with the mods if I posted it. BTW, are we getting enough firewood this year? Last year's fire was kinda small........ We need to make sure you can see this year's from the space station. I was chuckling too about the pole and ball comment. I had a great joke ready, but I knew my warn meter would have gotten spiked. Need more firewood... Maybe we can get a load shipped in by cargo ship. Someone's got their minds on bikini clad cheerleaders....at least i hope that is what the camera is for and not the pole and the ball....oh hum, thats where it ends in the family forum, lol.... As far as the wood....there is one load from PA on its way, and two loads in MD reserved and waiting. My only problem is HEIGHT. The rules say i can't burn anything that might have nails and the like in it, so that leaves out flats. The best i've come up with is stacking the wood real high, structuring something with 2X4s or something similar, or buying out the tiki torch section of walmart. I did have a picnic table i was going to bring and burn, but it rotted out and got tossed in the woods. I do have an old christmas tree laying in the woods, i could always bring that... Of course if i were to buy all the tiki torches, the darn fire will explode and blast us all to Pluto. With all that said...we're ready to burn! 4 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Have you seen this banner pic? Too cute! http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/87a03a...2afa15e3352.jpg Thx Werwolf IV - Folter und Todesurteil for sharing!
  8. ONE WEEK TO GO!!!!!!!!!!! BTW....i have a volley ball net, but no poles and no ball....if anyone attending this event wants to bring poles and or ball, go for it!
  9. MissJenn is the ideal organizer of event caches. I highly recommend you take a look at her past event cache pages for ideas for your event, and ideas for your event cache page. Check out GCE035: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...e5-2cfcf2ba0ff2
  10. You're gonna miss the jello shooters!
  11. It's almost here!!!!!!
  12. Ummm...have you seen the umpteen other threads going on right now about these same topics.... Yes I have (DUH). Your post proves my edit.
  13. But a cache owner should not have to remove "DRR" or any other signature that was written on the cache. No, they shouldn't. I'd like to see DRR go back to each and every cache and fix or replace each one they screwed with. Now that would be a record most of us here would actually respect! My suggeston of the rubbing alcohol to cache owners, was simply a quick and dirty solution to fix their cache, if they felt the need to, and be done with it. If you marinate in the "who" should clean it, you'll be marinating a looooong time.
  14. On a different note....if any of the cache owners of the caches that were subjected to the "DRR" are miffed about the cache defacing, you can remove the "DRR" with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, at least on most surfaces.
  15. If anyone was planning to go to this event, geocaching will no longer be represented. Unfortunatly, I had an unforseen accident at my work, and will be at work late to deal with this circumstances. My apologies to anyone who planned on going.
  16. Nooooooo, i'd think that is against the guidlines......its against the guidlines to use a code word in a cache instead of a log book to verify a find, how is this any different? Its a 'code word' on a cache, only the finder is placing the code word, instead of the hider.
  17. I found that cache last July, tried to adopt that cache to avoid archival, but it didn't work.
  18. So that perfectly good virtual caches can now be archived and the country can have even fewer caches? I'm sorry. I don't understand. This is a good idea because? delete, wrong post.

  21. #1 - cell phones, for all the cell phone cachers out there, is having a cell phone that can access the internet, such as verizon service for example, worth it, for looking up caches when you're on the go, or out in the middle of nowhere? How often do you actually use you rphone to reference caches? What do you consider the best paperless method? #2 - EZPASS - I am having a problem with my EZPASS. Apparently, the turnpike comission has told me that GPS interferes with EZPASS. I've had 4 problems with my transponder in the last month. Anyone else experiencing this? Actually i think my problem is a steel beam over my windshield that is blocking the transponder, ( I drive a wrangler, so my windshield is at almost 90* instead of about 60* like the rest of the world, so my transponder is right in line with a steel beam over the indshield) but they say its my GPS. I told them that i didn't have the GPS on when i had the problems with the transponder, but they still say its the GPS??? My GPS is not 'in' my vehicle permanently, they are referring to my hand held Garmin.
  22. CLick on event calendar link, and the calendar for the month comes up, with all the events listed for that day. THen you can click on any day of the month and see all the events as individual listings. Well I clicked on May 27, and all i got was a mini calendar of only numbers. No event cache listings for that day. Then i clicked on a different day, and it worked.
  23. IMO....google has a "pretty" map with "cute" little features like panning, etc. But "cute" and "pretty" aren't functional. I don't care if my map is cute and pretty and it pans easy. The main concern is will it get me to the cache. Being that google is definetly missing things such as county names, creeks, and landmarks, i am happy to see the reinstatement of MapQ.
