  1. Las Palmas Park in Sunnyvale even has a Canine "meet and greet" area. Dunno about Mules though, I'll wear a humansuit, nobody will notice MtM ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank

  3. Muley is getting old, but I finally made it to 100!!! Wheeee! Tried again for "Sly Dog's Big Lady" to be my 100th but she fooled me AGAIN! Anyway, I'll bring Chick-N-Rock to worship at the stainless steel lady, maybe she'll see it. MtM ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  4. quote:Originally posted by mhop:I thought all parks were public places. Well, some are less public than others it seems. I was thinking about putting a cache in Palo Alto's Foothills park, but I'm not sure when I'll be wealthy enough to do that. It's open to Palo Alto residents only. http://www.halplotkin.com/MetroArticles/metro2_21_91sec1.htm MHOP Most of the Peninsula cities had "private" public parks that required residency to enter. Almost all of them have dropped this requirement these days. I remember fondly "Sunnyvale Mountain Park" off of skyline Drive. I did feel special that we could go there but other cities residents could not. It is now part of the MPROSD. This type of limited access is now usually reserved fo the dump. Palo Alto has kept this requirement for this park. They were wise to exclude me, of this I am certain. MtM ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  5. Welcome to California. You'll find the SF Bay area to be a "target rich environment". Bring a torch, lots of cachers hunt at night and that would be a nice way to deal with Jet Lag. MtM ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  6. Ole' Muley would still be out trying to find a golf course which he wouldn't find of course ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  7. I use TRACK UP as it makes more sense to me. In flight school they train you to orient a map pointing in the direction of travel while flying. I got used to that I guess. That way the map "fits" the land form below you. Good Luck MtM ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  8. I am so far away from Berkely...ah the memories. Um I am kinda new, but when I read "Golden Bear" I immediately thought of a Golf Course. (Jack Nicklaus apparently designs them) And he is called the "Golden Bear". I don't have a clue about this but maybe it has something to do with a golf course. I'm a comin home soon so I might brave a trip to Berkely. Its gotta be warmer than where I am at the moment...it started snowing again yesterday. Snow makes a "1" level cache a "4" (in my opinion). A metal detector would be helpful for ammoboxes in the snow. I don't golf but know many who do. Maybe that has something to do with it. Good luck MtM ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  9. Hi Pepper, It can be soggy there for sure, but that becomes a different aspect of the sport. Good folks up there though, I met Beefcider in Lacey WA while introducing my daughter Alison to the sport. Heres a joke I heard in Finland though it applies to your situation; In Washington it never rains two days in a row.... There is always night inbetween..... (I Just realized I already told you that joke, sorry, I am currently in New Hampshire and I think I am starting to go "senior" on myself) Congrats on the 300 mark Pepper! ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank [This message was edited by montythemule on March 29, 2003 at 06:57 AM.]
  10. On an Alaska Airlines flight from Portland OR to San Jose, CA two weeks ago, a Flight Attendant noticed my Garmin on the tray table. She found her supervisor who sat beside me and asked if it was a GPSr. I repiled that it was and she informed me that it was not allowed. OK, so I quickly switched it off and she then asked me where we were according to the GPS? Uh, you just asked me to switch it off. Geez Last week when I flew on ATA from San Jose to Boston, I had it sitting on the tray table in a folded newspaper. Nobody noticed. It is better to ask forgiveness than seek permission. BTW I am a commericial rated pilot, not that it matters. Airlines make their own rules that the Pilots have to follow. 11. Caching in New England is a soggy venture for sure. I had to chip one ammo box out of the ice this weekend. Others you'd need snowshoes to get to, but I didn't bring mine. I intend to place some micros around out here so people can still go on the hunt without special equipment. But its warming up and the snow and ice are melting. 12. I like it. I might worry that if this single unit fails then I am really down, but I like the idea of reducing the hardware that seems to accumulate. For the power question, at the risk of being flamed at as a liberal, one could use solar chargers or cig lighter chargers to keep the power topped up. Buying a cig lighter adapter has cut my battery costs significantly MtM ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  13. MILS and Magnetic MILS are another scale for the compass. This scale is normally used by artillery types for finer placment of ordinance. The Magnetic MILS are referenced from Magnetic North. Unless you have a need for military direction definition, I would recommend using DEGREES, paying attention to the declination in your area. Personally I use True North and stay away from compasses that align with magnetic flux. Those compasses can be influenced any Iron deposits (like railroad tracks and automobile engines) Thats my $0.02 (and almost worth it) MtM ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  14. I had been wondering about how to do that. I would be apt to maybe put a little better stuff in a cache if I had some control. I have no self control, I'm working on it.. ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  15. Maybe if I rub the magic lamp in the other direction..... ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  16. Come on Geochamp, grace us with your universal presence.... We need "wisdom" If it was for a higher value (face it $1000 does not go far anymore) It might be more interesting. ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  17. We await the rise of Geochamp. But seriously folks, who is bankrolling the KFWB caches? MtM ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank

  19. Count me in. I know just the Trash Cache to start on too. People can be so inconsiderate. Thanks for the plan Jeremy! MontytheMule ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank

  21. I agree with Growley, the 76s is an awesome unit. Get used to the character of GPS systems and you'll agree. The first 76s I brought home from the store kept shutting off when the backlight was turned on. REI replaced it right away, without question. My point is that you may have a defective unit. Go back to where you got it and test with another unit as someone above has said. MtM ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  22. I say get whatever for the first unit. When you determine that that one could use additional features, then you'll go get the additional features and own TWO GPSr. Its not such a bad thing, and it helps out the semiconductor business. Lend one the the wife or kid. MtM Flameproof ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
  23. Mike, Where did you obtain this mount? Thanks MtM ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank

  25. Pepper, This only means that the house you eventually DO get will be significantly better than the one that got away. Trust this MtM ***************************************** This Space Intentionally Left Blank
