  1. I'm just wondering why people use Adventure Labs to span such distances. Somehow, for me it makes so much more sense to create Adventure Labs with waypoints at walking distance in (most often populated) areas where cell coverage is no issue. If I wanted to create a cache to span a distance, I'd create a multi instead of an ALC. Just an opinion, not me trying to push this on anyone.
  2. I so agree with this. The map is useless. And the missing scale makes things even worse. You can't even guess how much travel or effort an adventure lab is going to be from the map.
  3. Not at all! But if the tour you've got planned isn't working as an Adventure Lab, you might still consider to create a multi or Wherigo instead and use the Adventure Lab for another . . . well . . . adventure.
  4. No, you can't. You have to finish the previous location (so answer the question for that location, even when you're no longer at the location), before you can go to the next location. This is another reason to not use specific orders for Adventure Labs by the way.
  5. Just to make cachers aware, Cachly does just that: it shows the corrected coördinates AND the exact cache type. Only within the app though, as the corrected coördinates on the geocaching.com map show the correction but still don't show the cache type.
  7. Unfortunately, your assumption is correct . . .
Adventure Labs hierin past.
  9. There was a particular version of the Adventure Lab app for iPhone that had this issue. You can close the app and start over, and the dot will move again, until the next lab cache position is found. After that it might stop again and you'll have to close and restart the app again. But a far better option is to update the app. There are plenty new versions available, and as far as I know none of these has this particular problem. It's apparently a one-off.
  10. It's mostly "wooden nickels" (we call them "woodies" over here) indeed. They are very popular over here and surrounding European countries, and many geocachers have their own design and exchange them with other geocachers. It's not uncommon at all to find geocachers taking a collectors box full of woodies to events to exchange them for woodies they don't have yet. There are online catalogues where you can find many of the woodies produced, as the firms that produce them and the geocachers for whom they are produced are both happy to add them. Apart from that, there are some geocachers that create nice swag themselves at home. And these sometimes have a trackable code added too, so the creator can see where the goodies end up.
  11. Personally, I actually prefer no swag in caches at all. I rarely see something I'd really like to trade, though I can appreciate signature items sometimes. Where I live, I see a lot of caches that are filled to the top (and being refilled) with toys supposed to be "nice for kids". It's mostly the typical very cheap Asian produced plastic stuff that kids will pay just a few seconds attention to and then forget. The toys usually end up in the dustbin quickly or are "lost in nature". In both caches, they're a burden for the environment. I'm a firm believer of sharing/recycling where possible, but from a conservation and CITO perspective I'd rather not find any swag in caches than this junk.
  12. It makes me think of the so-called "Policeman's Helmet" in the Drakensberg, South Africa. If it is that rock formation indeed, I can find an earth cache in the area but not specifically about this formation.
  13. Elyob, do your users know / understand that the text is scrollable? Or do you mean that text is sometimes not shown on the "congratulations" pages with the answers? I found out this weekend that indeed sometimes the whole text is not shown in these pages if the photo above the text is too high . . .
  14. Since this topic is in the "Create Adventure Labs" section, I suppose the question is specific for adventure labs? The current guidelines at https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=143&pgid=928 just say "You cannot require players to pay a fee for a product, service, or access.". Since there seem to be free alternatives to get to the start of your adventure lab, you do not require players to pay to get there. So there seems to be no issue . . . go ahead.
  15. No, nothing was mentioned on that in the builder. I got confused about losing one credit but then gaining another one from HQ.
  16. Yup, the credit is given to create an Adventure Lab. Once you set up a new Adventure with one location / waypoint the credit is lowered by 1. So if you got 1 Adventure Credit, the moment you start creating the Adventure Lab with a location it goes down to 0. Actually exactly like Crazedllama already mentioned.
  17. Exact same problem here, running on iOS 13.4.1 on iPhone 8 Plus.
  19. There are plenty in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany. The most popular type for some years now are "fishing rod caches" where a modified fishing rod is used to retrieve the cache. The rod gets a hook added to the end, like from a clothes hanger. The caches are usually 5-7 meters high up in trees. So, plenty of geocachers go fishing in the woods around here. I find these kind of caches usually fun to do.
  20. Here in the Netherlands, almost all caches on or over water are T5-caches. You can usually find them just by boat or swimming and they are mostly in very calm water. Now would you consider that "risky" in a country that has plenty of water surfaces (as in "they're unavoidable"), where almost anybody can swim as they learn to from early childhood, and water sports are very common? Besides that, I object to the notion that geocaching is automatically considered "risky" due to the Corona virus being around. What is the correlation between those two? Not wanting to start another discussion about that though, but please trust and allow people to make smart decisions for themselves (and others to an extent).
  21. Any idea here, whether locationless or not, would be fine. I suppose going outside for a bit is fine too, as long as the goal of the cache is attainable in or around the house.
  22. Still a good and fun idea though, even if it can't be scaled to Geocaching.com size. Nice! You do make me wonder what exactly it is that you've got arranged though
  23. Hmmmm, I don't think people get my intention with this post. All I wanted to do is try to get the creative juices flowing, thinking about a potentially fun way to pass this time, connecting us to the game we all like to play and see possibilities in that. But apparently this idea is only seen as another option to score another point, another smiley instead of another smile? Come on, try to come up with a fun idea here instead of the constant "can't do", "won't be allowed", "you're only couch logging" etc. Where is the fun in that? That's really not why I like this game. I dare you all to see the possibilities and try to come up with something fun and interesting. Even if it will never materialise.
  24. You're forgetting to mention Adventure Labs . . .
