  1. Great, . . . except for that switching units of measure thing; boy isn't that convenient? switching from feet to 10ths of mi. after 1/10 mi.. I also hope that gets sorted out soon, real soon! Real projection would be a real boon for the commercial customers, as well as us real consumers. Norm
  2. The new "McCarthyism"is here, how many times must we repeat these scenarios before we catch on? Hindsight is 20/20, . . . but only if ya learn from it!
  3. Turn off(exit) your PDA syncing application? Interesting, a serial connection on a Mac? My memory(distant) of using eXplorist is that they only have an USB data cable. Got the cord running down the back of device, not pointing away towards the top of device? The XL would mount only one way but the eXplorists up to that could be attached upside-down. Norm
  4. Comments inserted above(Duh!) Norm P. S. : This dialog isn't 'in line' w/topic. For further follow-up a new topic would be prudent
  5. These discs are DVD format, not CD format. Data density requires this. Is your PC of choice DVD equipped? Norm
  6. 5 years ago DeLorme didn't even market a consumer hand held device, t'was but a twinkle. I think that now that the venture expenses are gaining a return, progress should be made at a somewhat more rapid pace. If they can afford to mainstream some projects as opposed to having them in tributary mode I think the stride will increase. Remember the PN-XX devices were an experiment that blossomed, their "bread 'n' butter" still lies in their commercial endeavors which 'spin down' to the consumer level via the PNs & Topo/ XMap pro. This consumer market is then fleshed out w/Street Atlas, then there's the paper publishing segment, & the Govt. work too. There's also this Macintosh rabble within their midst, as well as outside pounding on the door. I'd say they're doing quite well considering the # of irons in the fire. Commendable to say the very least. DeLorme may possess the largest globe(Ertha), but they're still a small Co. comparatively speaking. Norm
  7. I think some have had good luck quitting it out of the 'task bar' and relaunching the app.. Not sure, my copy is a 'dashboard 'widget''. Norm
  8. I'm surprised the DeLorme fans let you get away with that. - I live in Canada. - Canada is outside the US (at least it was last time I checked). - I can buy anything I want from DeLorme any time I want. - I can use anything from DeLorme any time I want. Anywhere I want. I just can't have much, if anything, in the way of maps if I want to use their stuff outside the continental US. Which is the point of my response to Lee. ...ken... Me thinks you need to re-visit DeLorme's posts regarding offerings for Canada, recent past, and future planned. Norm
  9. My opinion is : "If one thinks DeLorme isn't in it for the long run, and not making internal motions towards addressing a world market, than one must not be astutely reading posts that are related to DeLorme's stance." Providing SD cards w/topo data of present offshore theaters to purchasers via "PX" (w/privileges of course) is one example said to be forth- coming post new year. Also Caleb stated that there are some unofficial sales occurring outside the NA continent. Even a positive review e-published in Russian. I seriously think that the manufacturer of serious devices is poised to cast seed upon the wind ... Then again maybe not, but I suspect bright things behind door #3. I'll take World Market for $500.00(virtual) Alex. [All of North America . . . and beyond] {Where is DeLorme heading?} Norm P. S. : I wonder if my RR has moved a 'can' full o' desert camo PN-30s recently, . . . only Customs & DeLorme know for sure
  10. Magellan's 'Mobile Mapper Office' software along w/one of their pro line 'Mobile Mapper' device$ will do this, but I hesitate to recommend "Maggie" in light of my past experience. DeLorme has had the 'Blue Logger'/ 'PostPro' software(s) available in past. Norm
  11. Man that site is REALLY OLD, that's beside the point that RS232 is also really old. Don't know if there's any RS232 output from the later Garmins. As to whether the data can be output on USB, . . . I'm certain someone will venture here soon. Norm
  12. Woodstramp : Read the 'P.S. :' herein this following post link : http://forum.delorme.com/viewtopic.php?p=139652#p139652 I think that it may pertain to the military aspect. As to the Garmin ?s, sorry, can't help. So this is only sorta OT. Norm
  13. The second 'A' is "Augmentation". Norm
  14. 'N' : Thank-You, I look forward to reading more of your experiences w/these devices. 'Open architecture' is the future w/hhGPSrs, let's hope they don't get pulled into the "looking glass", or implement some proprietary 'hoops' so as to discourage users of "alternate" OSs. I'm happy w/my current device, but would certainly entertain thoughts of one that doesn't wear a MicroSoft chastity belt, . . . that's so unbecoming in this day and age(shields up). Norm
  15. Also, if this motion is being recorded w/compromised reception than it's a multipath thing. If you're indoors, go outside, if you're between your detached garage and your house, go out in the open. All GPSrs need to have relatively unhindered view of satellites, not just the PNs. Norm
  16. Are maps an added expense for the Dakota(s)? They're included w/the PNs. Depending on the answer that could add the better part of a 'C' note to the Dakota, if . . . one doesn't want to do the GPS file depot thing. And for road routing, well I'm not certain that the file depot projects are routable, I think I read some are. Those who know w/certainty please chime in. Norm
  17. Don't hate me, but I still lurk on some Magellan forums, there has been some discussion regarding custom(read home fab.) cables and USB2 being very temperamental regarding cable lengths and signal timing. Issues that weren't apparent w/USB1. Kinda reminded me of some esoteric Hi-Fi cabling issues that the "experts" over in that realm seem to deem pertinent to '"proper" Audio/Video reproduction'. just a thought, I don't know how sensitive USB2 is to timing issues, but contextually it might be plausible. Just sharing some musings that came to mind. Norm
  18. $200.00 an hour, hmmm . . . no Leopard/Bootcamp/Windows or Parallels/Windows for his existing Tiger? There's some who see a glass half full, some see it half empty, 10% of those just ain't happy unless they ain't happy. Really, If you were looking for a solution, describing your processes and what your results were would have gone quite far either here or over at DeLorme's forum, guess it was easier to stomp in sing your song then beat a hasty exit before you actually had to apply a little effort. You didn't fail because we didn't try to help, but in spite of it. Glad I'm not paying your fees for your outstanding efforts. Norm
  19. Promises??? What promises would those be? Norm
  20. Now a question : Does the act of having an incomplete/failed download moved from 'pending' to 'history' preclude one from future attempts to "re-download" the selection w/out a phone call(to DeLorme) to purge and reestablish a fresh history. Norm
  21. It'd be nice if they gave a link to who's sellin' 'em(PN-40s) for 2 bucks! Looks like a bug in their database, as well as a an omission in their interface. Norm
  22. Kinda makes ya go ". . . Hmmmm?!?", out of curiosity, I'm looking forward to some users future hands on evaluations. I was beginning to think that Lowrance had tripped and fell flat on their Triton. Norm
  23. Hello. It sounds like you are having the same frustration I occasionally run up against. If you follow the following steps it will make the situation easier to deal with (it won't help your download failure rate go down, but it will make it easier to work around). If you're getting hit with the 3 pending downlooads message because you either have failed or just unwanted downloads still pending in your downloads area it's pretty easy to correct. 1. Select the first download you want to get moved from your download area to the history area (basically it's sort of like you're cancelling that order, while I'm pretty sure that technically that's probably not a correct explanation that's how I think of it). 2. Next at the bottom of the download area click the button to download that selected map segment or aerial image. 3. As soon as you see the download start to process hit the cancel button on the download dialog box where it shows the progress of your download. 4. Be prepared because after you cancell the download it will automatically restart the download you just hit the cancell button for. As soon as it restarts repeat Step #3 above. 5. After you cancell it the 2nd time then you will see your dialog box at the bottom of the page change to a kind of dark gray color (sorry I'm colorblind so the dark gray part may be wrong due to my bad eyes). One of the options described in that area is to move the offending download from the Downloads section to the History section. Click to send it to History and your headache is gone. 6. Start repeating the process all over until all the downloads you want to get rid of are gone. As long as downloads are sitting in the Download section they count in that you already have 3 downloads pending formula (sorry I know formula is not the best word but it's early and I"m still needing more caffeine). Hopefully this will help you out. Why do download failures happen? I don't know, but like you I've gone to downloading smaller segments so that way if it does fail I don't have an hours time wasted. Good luck! M.Cacheman : I've not seen that process described before, that could save users a lot of grief. Please present it over where the lion's share of PN users dwell : http://forum.delorme.com/viewforum.php?f=5...178b9e68217341a This link is to the "Tips & Tricks" section. Norm
  24. It's sad that some people have to take every word literally and do not understand context. Words change meaning over time and can be used in conversation without everyone being so sensitive. Take the word gay for example. In conversation 50 years ago it used to mean happy, then over time it changed to mean homosexual. Now it has become a word you use around your buddies similar to saying something like "you're a dork." Some people do not understand this and have to change the meaning of the word to its former affiliation because they do not understand the change in context. I guess in the future one could say : "'So, and so' has their distributer rotated counter to revolution.". Seems like a lot of words because someone else is making you own their thin skin. Not a whole lotta sympathy towards PC happinin' in my space, but i'm not into steppin' on toes either. Moderation(noun) is good, moderation(verb) is a double edged sword. Norm
