  1. As I have been following my TB as it is slowly, but surely, moving from FL to NY, I have started to think that a really good feature for the geocaching.com website. It would be nice to be able to click on the TB profile and find a link where you can look at a map, with lines indicating the path of the TB. Have there been any plans to create this type of a feature?
  2. I have been getting double e-mails from Geocaching.com. It only happens from Outlook (not on gmail.com) and it only happens for e-mails from this one website. Has anyone else ever had this problem and if so what can I do, it's really annoying!! Thanks for any help!!
  3. So, I'll be getting a Garmin Legend CX over the hollidays, and I am considering investing in some sort of mapping software as well. I know that Garmin has the TOPO CD as well as some SD cards with maps of specific regions. I am looking for some advice on what Garmin software people like the best for caching? Do any of the software packages have street detail (for turn by turn) in addition to terrain detail? Does Garmin offer free software updates or will I need to buy new versions as they come out? How frequently does this happen? THANKS SO MUCH FOR ANY ADVICE!!!!!
  4. What maps did you use? I'm waiting to get my GPS for Christmas and I just can't wait to start!!
  5. Is it possible to download maps that are not from Garmin Software onto my Garmin? If yes, is there a process or something? Thanks!!
  6. I am just wondering if anyone has used TigerGPS to buy a unit? If so, how was that experience? Does anyone know of any cheaper vendors? I'm looking to buy a Venture CX. Thanks!
  7. I thought I read that you can only put Garmin maps on their unit... And their map software is expensive. Any thoughts?
  8. Which retailer were you looking at? Have you used them before?
  9. I'm seeing the Venture CX at $267 with a $50 rebate at Garmin... Where can I find it for $150?
  10. What is T&M + GSAK? With Mapsource you take a map from another source and use Mapsource to transfer it onto the GPS?
  11. You already answered the question I asked in the other forum, thanks for reading my mind!!!
  12. Again I will recommend the Venture CX for the reasons I stated above. Its only $30 more than the Legend and a lot more GPS. I was looking at the Legend CX too... It's not much (or at all?) different from the Venture CX. The Venture doesn't come w/ an SD card (does it work without it??) or the Mapsource Trip and Waypoint Manager (it comes w/ the Legend CX, is it an added bonus? or necessary for the unit to function?). What are your thoughts?
  13. The 'basemap' on a legend (the old non-color one) is going to have a very basic map, major highways and interstates. And that map is only going to have those basic roads for the US and Canada (assuming you bought the unit in the US or Canada, if you bought it outside the US it might have the basemap for whereever you got it). Outside the area of the basemap, it will only the outline of the country and maybe the largest city (as a named dot). Is the basemap (or any map) needed? No. You'll still be able to plug in a coordinate and follow the arrow just like you can do at home. Its just that the gps will only tell you straight line direction, you'll have to figure out how to get to the park or whatever it is your heading to. Will the Legend cx have more basemap detail?
  14. I'm in the middle of my search for my first GPS unit. I think I may have narrowed it down to the Legend cx and Venture cx. They both seem to be the same according to the specs. The Legend cx comes w/ the SD card and Trip & Waypoint Manager. Right now it has a rebate at REI that would put it at the same price as the Venture cx. Any reason for me to not go w/ the Legend cx over the Venture cx? Will I use that Trip and Waypoint Manager? Thanks!!
  15. G'Day G, Thanks for all your input! :-D I'm afriad that I haven't started geocaching and I'm trying to figure out what unit to buy. I'm still learning the GPS lingo. Can you tell me about SIRF? Thanks so much! -Dinker
  16. I think I'm also a bit confused as to what information is already on the units... To go geocaching in New Zealand will I absolutely need to add maps? Or is what comes on the units sufficient? I don't have a PC connection on my computer, so if I needed to add maps, I'd need a unit with a USB, I guess. I'm looking for something that I can use here in the states as a novice, but could take with me to New Zealand. I also am on a budget. What do ya'll recommend?
  17. I'm wondering if the Legend would have enough memory for worldmap data? Also, it comes with a "PC cable" not a USB...
  18. I was so excitied to see your post about New Zealand! I'm just getting into geocaching and hope to geocach there some day since my family lives there! I'm not sure if there are any caches in Queenstown, but the scenery there is spectacular. Also, if you have a chance while in Invercargil, take the ferry out to Stewart Island. There are a lot of great hikes around the island and learn about the history. I wonder if there are any caches there... I am trying to decide which GPS unit to buy. I want to be sure it will be good enough to use in New Zealand. Do you have any advice about that?
  19. I am trying to decide which GPS unit to buy. Right now I am looking at the eTrex Legend. I live in New York, but have family in New Zealand and would LOVE to go Geocaching when I visit. However, I can't find out if that unit will be sufficient "Down Under." Will I be able to get the appropriate maps on it? If not can I download them? Would the 8 megabytes memory be enough? I would be most grateful for any help! Thank you.
