  1. I enjoy the challenge of getting the FTF... I only think it would be unfair to other cachers IF the new caches werent published to everyone at the same time... I wouldnt mind seeing FTF Milestones as part of the statistics but thats just me... There has been many times when myself and several other cachers have descended on a cache at the same time to me thats part of the fun.. If i went to a cache to grab the FTF and another cacher showed up with child i would graciously continue "searching" just to see the childs face light up when THEY grabbed the FTF.... Whether i am the FTF or the last to find it all fun... When i do make the grab i put a time when the find was made...cause to me that adds to it...wondering if i passed the next cacher going to or from the cache
  2. My son and I are heading to Myrtle Beach the first week of August and was wondering if there any absolute "Must Grabs" in town? Looking forward to gaining souvenir badges along the way from Indiana and hopefully meeting some new faces while in town....and unless i forget may drop off some TB's I love the Myrtle Beach area....been there many many times and will be my sons first...looking forward to being back!! Thanks in advance for any suggestions
  3. I am 40 and my son just turned 9...we have been caching for around 5 years and love every minute of it....Been to 1 event so far also and went with the intention and just kinda "wallflowering" also but that was extremely short lived because within 5 minutes of arriving we met some of the friendliest people ever...they were from 20-60 plus! Everyone shared stories from their caching experiences. Now my son and I try catching fellow cachers out. Looking forward to going to GeoWoodStock10 here in about 4 months...Caching is for everyone...Good Luck and Happy Hunting
  4. Thanks to all that replied...I appreciate and respect all the replies...and it all will be taken into consideration...like I stating...It has been crossing my mind to do such a cache...Thanks again
  5. I am thinking about placing some caches with some 4 and up D/T....and was curious what others thought.....are they going to be worth the time investing.....it will be to me....but will it be for others? From my searches I haven't seen many 4 + d/t.....others thoughts and/or suggestions will be appreciated... And unless I have missed it somewhere I would be interested in that being a search option for caches....searching by d/t..... If it helps my son and I would be hiding in southern Indiana...around Seymour...Thank You
  6. I have had the same problem....even SIMPLE caches literally leave me frustrated.....I have taen my young son...(just turned 9) and I will give him the gps and the clues and within 5 minutes r of reaching gz he has it in hand and ready to sign the log....when I finally realized I simply over think everything and make it way to hard and he uses plain child simplicity.....so my thoughts on this....just relax...have fun don't think or try so hard....and keep it in your mind..."what fun would it be to find ever yone"....where would the challenge be?
  7. Looking to add some souvenirs to our list.....see more exciting places and meet more fellow cachers and maybe break 1000
  8. I cache because I love the outdoors and the adventure involved and most of all , I enjoy all the experiences and places my son and I have seen....And for me that's what matters the most time with my son...I am so glad that I/we found geocaching
  9. Wow, I can see why there are "lurkers" now! No everyone enjoys a grammar or punctuation lesson for sharing their thoughts. Nonetheless I still enjoy and appreciate all the "useful" tips from fellow cachers and their take on this hobby
  10. Here in southern Indiana...we don't have to worry much about dangerous animals.... Probably my worst encounter would have to with stray dogs and the undesirable individuals a person come in contact with
  11. I would like to see it possibly increased.... I don't know if others have had this happen but I use my gps and phone and I have actually found caches that aren't/wasn't listed within less that 100' of the one im looking for and I have had caches just pop up on my phone out of the blue in which some are still active while others are nowhere online...yet they have a log with recognizable signatures.... I think it may also be the equipment one person uses as opposed to another and the signal received and they may not be averaging the coordinates.... All in all I believe the best is being done
  12. Mine is simple.....and I had to come up with something that I could easily remember....so I used my sons name and birthday..... Not to original but my son means the world to me and its special Hunter1227
  13. I laughed so hard reading "dphickey"s post about the "Cantalope"....amazing what's kids come up with.....to add to our daily lives.... But anyway....I have been looked at far far less while caching with my son that I have by myself.....and especially since my son will soon be 9....people tend to not think twice about a boy running around poking and prodding and looking for hiding spots... I enjoy caching tremendously.....but when my son is with me I enjoy it a million times more!
  14. Just read this post.....I learned about "caching" as I took a course at our local wildlife refuge...and part of the course covered compass reading and navigation (gps) it was hosted by a Conservation Officer...in which he is/was a cacher....I was hooked from that moment... My son and I have always been very close but since our "treasuring hunting" began....we have bonded 100 times more and experienced so much....he enjoys cemetery hides most especially when there military vets....we have traveled and have seen some beautiful places...and our experiences will last a lifetime.....thanks you the Geocaching community...for keeping this hobby/sport/activity alive...and to all the families that grow closer because of this experience......Good Luck and Happy Caching!!!
  15. I, myself see it as a sport, just as I see it, it is subject to how it is seen by the individual... Some see it as a sport....some do not....to me it is just like "racing" because I myself don't consider driving in a circle for hours a sport but alot of people see it differently.. It is very challenging...whether it is having to be stealthy....or putting your mind against other caches to challenge them...My son and I enjoy the sport and it has brought us many many enjoyable memories and above and beyond it all THAT'S what it is truly about for us...Thank you for your time
  16. I have 2..both Garmins...one is the Garmin 72 and it is extremly easy to use the other is a Garmin Etrex H...it cost me $100 (but i am sure you can find it a little cheaper) The Etrex is dead on the money...as long as they give the correct coordinates..because if they did and it shows that you are "Arriving at Destination" you better watch look down because you are cose to stepping on it....

  18. Here in southern indiana...I carry (with a legal license) a Ruger 9mm w/124gr. Golden Saber HP's..I leave the Ruger .44 w/240 HP's at home until hunting season...lol...I would hate to carry that 10 -12 miles while caching/hiking Luckily I have not encountered any lab's or gardens YET. The biggest problem around here is people who DO NOT keep their dogs tied up and they run wild..the problem with that is they have lost their fear of humans and dont seem to hesitate to come after someone...and I have encountered this MANY times..the first shot is always a warning and the next 14 are there for any further advance on their part
  19. I dont know if this works for you or not but it works wonders for me and it is the cheapest thing I have found to "PREVENT" itching or even breaking out I buy a travel size bottle of regular hand sanitizer (usually 2 or 3 oz btl) to carry with me and what I do is... Buy the squeeze btl NOT the pump it is not practical to carry Mix 1/2 a btl of hand sanitizer (which is 60-62% ethyl alcohol) with 91% Isopropyl alcohol I mix it because the sanitizer is gel and seems to help spread the I.P.A better with less waste I mix it 50/50 and if I even think I have come in contact with Ivy, Oak, or Sumac I just squirt a little in my hands and apply....total cost "maybe" $2... It is definately the best thing I have found..like I said to "PREVENT" future problems....and it takes up very minimal space To ease the itching you can try/use JEWELWEED (spotted touch-me-nots) it contains Lawsone with relieves the itching.... You can boil the leaves and use the liquid..just "DO NOT" use it when it is boiling hot like that or you can freeze it and rub the "ice cubes" on the rash to relieve the itching..it contains a "natural anti-histamine.. I hope this helps you and others
  20. Hello all, i am looking forward to finding my first cache this weekend....I hope it is as much fun as it sounds like and appears to be
