  1. I admit I have a RJTB that I have held for a little while, but am holding on to it to drop it at an upcoming event cache. This is the third one I have found, the others I sent on their way. I think that hoarding any of the travel bugs or coins comes down to either not understanding the way these things work or not caring. Who can the hoarders show their "stash" off to? Most any cacher they showed the TBs would be disgusted at them.
  2. XP and trying to use GSAK. I will try the reboot with GPS connected shortly, downloading something now. I have rebooted without it connected, that didn't work. Check the setup manual too, thanks.
  3. Help!! I recently switched from a desktop to a laptop, and had to purchase a USB to serial converter. I finally got around to hooking it up today, and can't get the #$%# thing to work. Anybody else use one of these, or maybe have any ideas what I can check? Does Garmin make a direct USB cable for their products? Greatly appreciated.
  4. I have found a few live rounds while caching, but it was in Baghdad...
  5. Active duty Air Force Enlisted Sep 91-Aug 00 - Security Policeman - Guam, Vance (OK), FE Warren (WY) ROTC Aug 00-May 02 - Cadet - Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, MO Officer May 02-Present - Logistics Readiness - Langley (VA), Little Rock (AR) And a couple of short trips to Saudi, Cuba, Italy, and most recently, Baghdad, where I found quite a few caches.
  6. regarding the questionnaire: in four of the examples, i am the person being approached. in the other two, i am the host of the party and the sick woman with the wrecked car. it is possible where i live to get mugged or beaten or killed. i don't choose to worry about it. when (and you will notice my use of the word "when") i have met people who intend to do me harm, i respond firmly and in a way that has caused then to turn and run. i don't know why you all seem to think my abridged biography is weird. i don't ride without a helmet. i don't climb without a harness. if i had stayed off of that mountain, i wouldn't have been struck by lightning. if i'd stayed off the road i wouldn't have been run over. if i hadn't had a routine colonoscopy i wouldn't have needed that ambulance. i don't blame the mountain, the road, or the colonoscopy. i do not believe i should have stayed home. there is much about my world that is already dangerous and frightening. if i care to read the statistics, i should have been dead by now. the world isn't bigger or more dangerous than it used to be; we simply have access to more sensational information. logging accidents. mine explosions. poisoned groundwater. cholera. black death. infant mortality. civil war. wildfires. accidental drownings. volcanoes. i can't be bothered to be afraid. i feel sorry for people caught in the cultural panic. good news doen't sell ads. bicycle safety doesn't seem to translate smoothly into primetime TV. flip through your channels. how many shows do you see in any given hour about proper use of climbing gear? violent crime? i walk alone, and in the dark. city or country. i talk to strangers. most of the time the people i meet are friendly and generous. good people are everywhere if you're looking for them. geocaching alone and unsuspicious is a gift. you might be afraid to go with the little man on the bike, alone and unarmed. but i was standing beside him in late afternoon sunlight under a cobalt blue sky, looking out over the entire city of montreal. it is a saturday afternoon at four o'clock and all the church bells begin to ring. he motions to the trail below us, into the woods. "do you want to see where it goes?" he says. "YES! i want to see where it goes!" i want to see where it goes. i am not afraid. "A ship is safe at harbor, but that's not why it was built." - last fortune cookie I opened.
  7. I bought a copy of Street Atlas USA 2008 with the GPS LT-20 ($69 and free shipping from Amazon.com) about a week ago. It is pretty slow to load, but seems to work well. I haven't had a chance to take it caching yet, but did set it up for the Mrs. to do some yard saling last weekend, it worked pretty well. I went with the GPS version to save wear and tear on my handheld, as well as it works better, with the turn-by-turn audible instructions, route correcting, etc. I like it so far. We are going on a trip next weekend, will see how it does out on the road in BFE.
  8. I've got a messenger bag that I carry. It looks like Jack Bauer's magic bag that he carries on "24", the one that has everything he needs just when he needs it.
  9. I use it quite a bit, but agree that having the cache name would make it easier to use. I usually retitle them myself after download. I would love to see them change the feature. I think the only issue would be retitling them so that everyone understands the name, since there is not room on the GPSr for complete titles. kevnjenn Cabot, AR
  10. nonaeroterraqueous, Thanks, dude. I like it. Let me think on it for a day or so regarding any changes, but, really, I like it as is. Thanks again. kevnjenn
  11. Dang, I knew somebody was going to make me sit down and think about this thing... I would prefer the square size, in case I can talk the Mrs. into a coin later on. I think probably our name, the state of Missouri, and the geocaching symbol/colors are the the more important things. I'm not sure about the colors. I would say overall, we are probably a more tame color family, but I like what you did with deafhunt's colors.
  12. There are some really nice avatars on here. I was wondering if someone could take a crack at one for us, as I am artistically challenged. Our caching name is kevnjenn. I am Kevin, my wife is Jennifer. Last name is Green. The three little cachers with us are 8, 4, and 2. We use an Etrex Legend. I am active duty Air Force, but not a pilot. Originally from Missouri, fond of the US flag, country music, and geocaching. I threw this one together a while back, but it is pretty lame... Thanks. kevnjenn
  13. Personally, I like the ones that take me to see cool things I wouldn't have known were there or that have an interesting story to tell, and of course, hikes. I love multis, but with three kids, we mainly look for regular caches to swap swag. I was deployed to Iraq earlier this year, there were some really imaginative placement of caches there. My favorite is called Hero's Cache, it is in Baghdad at the site of the battle where the first Global War on Terror Medal of Honor winner earned his medal. It is a special place, for all time. kevnjenn
  14. This one is gone now. It disappeared when some construction project was going on near there. I think they hauled off all the old safes and got that one too. One of my buddies was the last one to find it intact...
  15. Since the upgrades to the site have been made, I have not been able to get the identifier tool to work on the state cache map page. I keep getting this error message: Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046' Permission denied /map/maplib.asp, line 191 Any ideas? Is there something I need to download or is this an option no longer available? Thanks.
