  1. Bigjonny See that deep depression in the snow behind you?? Follow it Home?? wingryder
  2. I am surprised no-one has jumped on this. This Garmin is a nice geocaching unit and the price is very good. Leave the "no spam" out and email me. wingryder
  3. Thanks to you both. I knew it would be the one thing I didn't try. Very simple.... wingryder
  4. My Garmin 76S has a unused data field no matter what settings I use. On the map page.. if I set for example the data fields to just two, say pointer and distance to target, there is a full field across the screen which is unused. How do I get rid of this? I will try to post a picture. http://img.Groundspeak.com/user/3fec1d32-c...ca58dd6dc97.jpg wingryder
  5. I have for sale a near mint condition Garmin 72 gps receiver. Comes with a protective cover but no cables . This unit is built on the same frame and large screen as the popular Garmin 76 models. Much easier to read than the smaller etrex models. Great for caching or general gps use. 85.00. email me at wingrydernospam@sysim.net
  6. BattlewoodSky IF this is genuine there are plenty of people to help you. And if not it is still good reading. Forget the GC number, it is not a secret code, it is not the cords of the cache, it is not even needed to find the cache. In fact , it is pretty dumb. GC numbers could have just as eazy been gc1 to gc50000 or how ever many caches there are now. So forget the gc number.. if it ends up in your gps receiver when you download.. great.. it not forget it. Download those cords whichever way is best for you. (one at a time if you wish) I would forget you are a premium member, click on two or three caches close to you on the web site. download them with "easy gps" and go find them. After you get the hang of it.. you will love the advantages of Premium membership. No you did not get ripped off. You just don't need it for a while. wingryder
  7. Well Knc... I like my little "shell" program that "just doesn't compare" I take 500 caches with all the information available about them... There just might be some cachers that also like simple and fast. wingryder
  8. Okay, now I am probably going to sound like I developed GSAK or something, but honestly, I just think that no other solution compares. [K steps on to the soap box] GSAK imports and exports to every GPS/File format I have ever used. gpx2html is a nice shell program, but it does not compare. I am fortunate enough to own a Treo, and CacheMate also, which allows for paperless logging, a GPS, and syncing to GSAK for Macro based logging to GC.com -- All in one device. Which I recommend as a "must do" for all palm device users. It makes for a more enjoyable experience. GSAK has import from HTML or GPX (among many, many other formats) as well as syncs to Garmin, Magellan, and other devices (including palm OS based GPS software.). That is a very small part of what it does. It comes with GPSBabel, and provides the GUI for every file format that that software supports. The real beauty is the way it connects to Google Earth, GC.com, and virtually any site, or application via it's macro language (Of which there are many freely distributable macros right on the site, ready for download.). If you write your logs in GSAKs interface (or sync them from palm), you can append your pictures, add user notes, and hit the log button to automagically log your info on GC.com. Like I said... it sounds complicated, but once you do it, you will never manage waypoints or logging any other way. It is just way too handy. And for those of us with Palm devices, and Cachemate... we go totally paperless, so no more smeared notes at the end of the day, and logging is amost nonexistent when we get home. Besides the cool factor is 10! Am I convincing anyone? [K steps off the Soapbox] Sorry, I just can't stop from being amazed by GSAK. Everyone should be using this software. I hear they have an OS X version coming soon too. KnC
  9. I read it nearly every day.. but burp its not there... This can't be... wingryder
  10. Skip the spinning part.. just use "gpx2html" and then plucker 500 at at time for over a year.. never a failure. wingryder
  11. Yes Geoclipper is it. thank you for that. The link to the author "rschoolf" seems to be dead but it was a pretty nifty program. On the flip side I cannot believe I ever messed around with single cache downloads. I never even read about a cache now until I am a mile or so away.. and deciding to do it or ignore it. thanks again wingryder
  12. Yes there are many ways. I use "gpx2html" and "plucker". Download 500 at a time.. But I still want to know the name of that utility I used. Anyone?? thanks wingryder
  13. As you are a premium member here is the slickest way I know and its all free. 1. Obtain Xnumber (up to 500 of "not found" caches from Pocket Queries.( Get it in gpx format.) 2. Process that file through "gpx2html". (google it, its free) 3. One result is a file that will open with easygps.. upload to your gpsr. 4. You are half finished. 5. Another file from step 2 is a "index.html" file. 6. Using "Plucker" convert that file to one your Palm can read. 7. Sync the resulting file to your Palm. Presto.. 500 (or more yes it can be done) caches with all their logs, hints, and info is now resting on your Palm Many will say why 500? Because more is better. I sometimes combine pqs to process up to 950 at at time. (my gps will hold 1000 but you need room for a few on the spot entries) All you are doing is expanding the circle from your starting point. There is plenty of room on both the gpsr and the palm and you might find yourself in the next county without prior planning. I run the process everytime I cache . I delete everything, reload it.. that removes any caches found since last download plus gives you up to date information. (logs, missing caches etc.) on every single cache I find no need to manipulate any data save requesting "not found" P.Q.s. wingryder
  14. Back before I was a member and started using P.Qs., I used a little program that let you grab the web page that held the cache description and send it to the Palm. I have ran every google seach I can think of and cannot remember the name of the utility? It was pretty slick. Any help?? wingryer
  15. Nice job and a lot of work I am sure. One thing the author was bugged about was waiting for P. Q. to come back in your email. I usually set the run date as the same day. I have never waited for more than a hour for them. So you set up your query, go watch Desperate Wives and your ready to go. And I have to throw in a simpler method as well. I have never seen the need to manipulate the caches and the data. You download 500 "not founds" (or more yes you can) And search out the ones that interest you and ignore the rest. 1. Obtain your Pocket Query 2. Process it with a little neat free program called gpx2html 3. A nifty easygps file will appear when done.. download those 500 caches to your gps receiver. 4. Another file is also there begging to be "converted to plucker" (also a free program) 5. Take that file and sync it to your Palm. You now have 500 caches in your gps and descrip. logs, hints in your Palm. Why make it hard? (oh now you want to know how to get more than 500.? Just get another p.q. from another part of the state and place them both in the same folder as "gpx2html". It will process and combine them all while you read the paper. wingryder
  16. I am not sure what you are asking. Will Garmin talk to the Palm? Sure I have mapopolis maps on my Palm and the Garmin provides real time tracking on the Palm. When you say "transfering waypoints".. Not sure why you would want to. I get a pocket query for 500 at a time.. I download waypoints to the Garmin and descriptions to the Palm. No need to transfer anymore waypoints (caches) to the Garmin till next download. wingryder
  17. This software is free. "gpx2html" and "plucker" (google them) You obtain pocket queries, process them with above and you can download up to 500 caches at a time complete with descrip, logs, and hints. It's almost as much fun as caching wingryder
  18. I use a Palm IIIxe, holds 8mb and pretty cheap. about 40-50 dollars. I have lost one already. It will hold upwards of 2000 cache descriptions. I also have mapopolis maps on mine. I would not do that again as with no color they are very hard to read. But for just plain data.. the little Palm does great. I download before I go caching.. and keep about three downloads on it. (1500 caches).. I just delete the oldest. Most of the caches are dupes but... it gets rid of anything you found (logged) since the last trip plus you get the latest logs in case someone was there two days ago and found it flooded out. I use gpx2html and plucker. I dont manipulate any data, just request 500 not found from my zip code. run the pocket query through gpx2html. Download the resulting easygps file to my gpsr. And convert the index file to "plucker" for syncing (sp?) to the Palm. If you need more help let me know wingryder
  19. I use two free programs, "Gpx2html" and Plucker. I download 500 caches at a time... waypoints to gpsr and descriptions to Palm wingryder
  20. This is where your 40.00 Palm comes in. I use gpx2html and plucker to download (from pocket queries) 500 caches at a time including cache descriptions, logs, and hints. Waypoints to the gpsr, and everything else to the Palm. Its paperless caching and the only way to go. Others use cachemate or gsak to do the same thing wingryder
  22. If you want Easy... use Easygps non premium member.... can download I think 20 caches at a time to your easy gps program and then upload them to your gps receiver. premium member (3.00 per month) can download 500 at a time.. run them through "gpx2html" and then upload the resulting file to your gpsr receiver with easygps. Then you can also download the descriptions of all 500 on your palm.. but that is for another day. The neat thing is.. it takes less time than typing this post. wingryder
  23. I use p.q's, gpx2html, and plucker for processing 500 "not found" caches at a time. It works very well so of course I want to mess with it. How do I go about automating this procedure? I used to mess a little with batch files in the day of dos but I know nothing about writing code so if this is the only way, I doubt if it will happen. Go easy on me and thanks wingryder
  24. Don't overlook "gpx2htm". I use it with Plucker and grab 500 at time. Once you have plucker working you never have to change anything. I redo the 500 download always the night before I go caching. Takes about ten minutes. Caches and logs on the palm and waypoints in the gpsr. And all up to date. And its free. Besides.. I think Cachemate is complicated. wingryder
  25. I don't use Gsak so cannot comment on your problem but can tell you what works for me. 1. Request 500 not found caches from P.Q. (in gpx format) 2. Run this through GPX2HTML 3. Download the resulting 500 caches to the Garmin with easygps 4. Take the "index" file from step 2 and "convert to plucker" 5. Result is"index.html" Hot syc this to Palm I don't manipulate data except in my original "not found" request. I always dump all waypoints from the Garmin before reloading the new 500. The only sticky part is getting Plucker setup correctly. Been a while since I did it with some trial and error. I really like gpx1html. And for those not going paperless you can just stop with step 3. I know.. I didn't solve your problem but fun to ramble wingryder
