  1. GeoBud, "WOO HOO! Geocache logged!" I'm the Dog! I'm the Dog!"
  2. Both of these units are great, you can't go wrong with Gold or the Pro. I think the only issue is the size, The pro is so much better to carry around, and I havent yet seen a good carry case for the Gold, Magellan makes a great case for the Pro, take this into consideration also I think the screen on the Gold is better for using in the truck or car if that is what you drive, its eaiser to read while bouncing up the FS roads. The memory for the Pro is more than enough, However the usb hookup is a lot faster to upload to if you are the kind that changes maps every day. Other wise thats not a problem. I have all of my caching and outdoor area installed on the Pro and there is a lot more room. Hope this helps I have both of these units and a Plat, most all the Etrex series also. I find that I use the Gold when driven or on the 4wheeler and the Pro when I'm hiking or on the motorcycle. hec do like me go buy both..happy caching.
  3. I think it depends on where you plan on using a GPS, Here, If I am in the deep canyons and trees the Platinum is the one I have to use the Vista wont pick up sats,,but if I go urban caching I like to use the el'Vista,,cause it's smaller and a lot eaiser to carry around and hide when I dont feal like answering alot of "what ya doing questions",, Both units are great,,is one better than the other? well both have their advantages in differant ways. So do like I did, GET BOTH.
  4. I to had this happen a while back. I had to force the gps into upgrade mode and reinstall softwear,, only thing is a I dont remember how I did it, First thing ya have to do is make sure the unit is off and there is a certian key combo, plus at the right time begin the upload process, I found the info I needed in these posts. Maybe someone else can comment as to the correct keys,,, I guess you could try it too. One other thought I also have Meridian Gold, and it did something like this, only I found out that the contrast setting somehow changed and when I turned the unit on and it was not realy dead, I could just make out enough of the screen to get the contrast setting changed back.. thats another thought,
  5. What ever one ends up in my hand when it comes out of the backpack. There are so many in the bag now,,what am I going to do. Soooo lost, where to go next. Age creeps up soooo slow. I do much prefer the Meridian ones( Gold or Plat). How ever I like the Vista,, but again the Pro is real nice..some times just to be different the Legend is guiding the way.
  6. One of the very great many things about this sport is that every one can play it any way they want. If thay choose to trade then so be it, if they choose to take nothing, or maybe want to just leave something, every one can have that choice the great game of geoching can be played in many different ways. If we are bound to take something and leave something. Then why not just go the locale second hand store and trade there. There are so many other reasons to play this game, such as find new places, and the view from some of these caches cannot be described in words, YOU HAVE to go there,, so who would care about trading useless junk when all you need to do is just get to the location and take in the outstanding view. "Cache on"
  7. Dusty I sent you a photo of QZ0572,,a different type of benchmark> I dont see it with your others, aren't you interested in this one? If you did not recieve it let me know I will resend it,,I think it is a nice one,,a benchmark that one can go and camp in. What could be better, benchmark hunting and camping out, in the benchmark!
  8. This is an interesting statment..........I'd have to say that the sun does have to be shinning or the moon?,,,,,,,,,cause if not, I think that if your compass is not working that would be of little concern to you. But then again it would be real dark. And there would be no moon to guide by. So I would hope the compass worked regardless. Does any one else have any thoughts on this one.
  9. Does it eat batteries like the Platinum,,say a set in 8 hours,,or is it more battery frendly.
  10. You need the updated ver of mapsend, and if some one would be so kind as to repost the link as to where to get the updated ver, I would very much appriciate it as my computer crapped out and I had to restore so I have lost all my updates. Once you have the ver that will allow you to load to a card reader, all you have to do is rename the maps say Home.img or what ever you want to call them and keep loading till the cards full or you get tired of loading them on.
  11. NO more RED,,thank you,,blue is much eaiser to read,,I like the colors now..outstanding....
  12. MY filter wont work,, all I get is the same options, am I missing something, "Oh: well da! I have to put in the dang ZIP code,,works fine then,,,I do feel stupid now..if only I would have listned to those teachers in skool." < Just a note: I was asked by my Dad if I could make sence out of, or read the new pages,,,He is Color Blind and it is almost impossible for him to read,,I have to admit it I would prefer the Bold and Italic's,,I know its boring but its a lot eaiser to read,,> [This message was edited by Montana Latitude on June 16, 2003 at 10:40 PM.]
  13. If you place it on the table and smack it real hard with a large wooden mallet it will spray approximatly all the way accross the kitchen till it splaters on the wall,,, I carry a side arm at all times in the woods both Benchmarking AND caching,,mostly so people that would normally stop by and inquire as to what I am doing, see it and just keep my business to myself and go on their way. As to the start of this post,, I cannot see where your reading that you have the right to carry a hidden weapon in the state of Washington while you are hiking. It is not leagel in Montana,,if not here than I cant believe it is in Washington. But it could be that I am reading it in a different way than you are. Course I never grad'i'guated law skool.
  14. It is about so big,,has buttons on the face,, a small screen,,that has numbers on it when you turn it on,, it uses batteries. it was left by a small box filled with small worthless toys and trinkets, and there was a log book in the container that had some words wrote in it by a few people that have found this location in the past,,,,,oh ya it was the other day.
  15. Well I just looked at these Cord's,,and realized that there are no such cord's..so after going back to the cache page I should devided the over 60 minutes by 2,,and that puts the cord's out in the water about a mile, so I spose this post should be deleted,,,, IF only I could delete it. Funny that no one posted a comment....I guess the laughs on all that read it....not just me. Cache on.
  16. First of all I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum,, I dont see Greenland listed so I'm starting here. I'm looking for someone to log the "Wheres In a Name cache" ( GC3153 )These are the Cord's,,<66 68.262 52 84.883> I was going to try the full cord's first, however I'm under the undestanding its not required,,I thought that I would start this way.
  17. What GPS unit are you hoping for, just anything or do you have something in mind. I have a Magellan 2000XL with owners manual,
  18. This is a tuff call,,the only answer I can give is. Depends on where you plan on using these units...in the city or flatland or desert,,I'd use the Legend,,If your in the Trees or in the Mountians or deep canyons,,the Pro is the only way to go. The screen issue, The Garmin topo don't impress me at all on the legend,,however The Pro and Magellan topo seams to be of some use to me,,the legend and roads and rec work great, and the Pro could go with both streets and topo and I can read them both with good screen details. The Vista is in another class all together,,it has the electronic compass and other features that are unique to that unit. SO if You ask me its all in where you want to us these units,,if you need good reception you will need the Pro,,if reception is not a problem in your area the Legend will preform great and you would be a happy camper with that unit. My cents worth.
  19. Hey thar,,is Hamilton too far away? LOL seams that there was no other replys yet from your area, I thought I'd let ya know there is people from this state on here. I hope to get up your way some time and do some caching.
  20. Well Ma uses a Venture,,one that I loaned her....Pa uses a Platiumn,,, after the 315 took a dump before that it was a blazer12. Now on to myself......A blazer12 the same one PA used,,,At my feet lies a ProMarK X Built in 1993,,,ever hear of that one? and on the table top is Magellan Platiumn,,Sportrack Pro, A Garmin Vista, Legend and like I said the Venture is out on loan,,there is a Mag. 2000xl sitting around here too. Now for th Rino's two of those were sent back, Dude I aint complaining,, just putting in my cents worth,,,take it or leave it. Makes me no never mind.
  21. Ya I have to disagree with your disagree, been there seen that, One of the units was in the range of numbers, and the other was far an distant from the numbers, BOTH would do the same thing, both did not transmit or recieve to each other or to other radios very well if at all, so the number range had nothing to do with it, as far as the sat. lock, the same with both units, finally put them away and used a unit that would tell me where I was and how far it was to the geocaches,,, I really liked many features the rino had, for instance the ability to edit the menu and place what I wanted on the dropdown menu button( who needs a calculator on there or the moon and fish phases) was nice to add what I did want and was able to arange them so I quickly get to the screen I did want. Still have to say it again,,,"Kids toys..period" I hope the next generation of rinos do work, as they are advertised to do so.
  22. You name it, it was wrong. the gps would not lock on and stay. My Legend and Venture were ten times better, The radios, worthless when you are trying to talk to someone thats more that few hundred yards away, position sending the same, useless if you are on a 4-wheeler trying to track others and keep in touch, we had to use other radios (Midland frs/gmrs)Sorry but I tryed and tryed them, My opinion, Plain and simple "Kids toys" some day I truely believe that garmin will improve these units, but for now, I need a gps that will position me in the field. When I am in the trees I use the Magellan( Sportrac Pro, or the Platinum) if I want to be discreat and an am in the city or rural areas I use the etrex's(Legend, Vista)If I am asked to recommend a unit to someone getting started in the game I say The Venture, start with that and you can't go wrong, The map programs, Garmin has that hands down.
  23. Got it thanks, had to go back in time and use IE, and use the second link in the thredanyways it works great. thanks again
  24. Dude...You are two days late,, I took both 120 Rinos and all the acc"s back to the stores, Finalized the trade last night after work,, And went with a Platinum and sportrack Pro,,I would have jumped on your deal,, I would have traded anything to rid myself of those rinos. I'll bet there are others out there that will take you up on this deal, Happy Caching
