  1. quote: cache nut wrote:Hmm, a search for orienteering on google.com returns www.orienteering.org as the #1 top of the list result. And don't I know it! Really though, it's not a big deal. People on this board don't think twice about markwelling someone -- and that takes considerably more effort than searching for a word at Google. Criminal: I know you weren't trying to slam the newbie -- and your suggestion was quite valid -- a search at Google was all that I did, and as cachew nut pointed out, orienterring.org came out on top. My post was directed more at Overcusser for jumping all over you (and maybe just a bit for your snipe back at him). Newbies take note: you've got the world's best investigative tool at your fingertips -- please use it (kind of reminds me of my kids when they ask where something is before they look for themselves -- it's just laziness). However, having said that, it is not unreasonable for someone to ask a question here such as the one that SuperAlpha did -- but it would have gone over better had he said "I've done a search at Google and found some info, but if someone can point me in a direction for [this specific info] it would be appreciated." We should remember that sometimes all someone needs is a little nudge in the right direction and then they're off and running. Let's show a little patience to people that we don't know, shall we? But if they ask obvious questions more than once -- Bam, it's off to the whipping post. *****

  4. I think you should just let it go. Or perhaps you could start on next years resolutions. *****
  5. quote: Canadazuuk wrote:The Garmin is still available to any team that completes the 18 caches referenced in my topic in the Canadian forum... That would be the GODS OF GPS COUNTRY challenge. Very cool one Zuuk. *****
  6. Although the words 'end this thread' don't appear in the post, the meaning is clear -- this one is quite good: "Any thread with Wham! references and goats deserves to be 7 pages. I'll be in the Men's room if you need me....." (TMAN264) Shortly afterwards Jeremy gave it a: "Closing the thread. For good." *****
  7. Now, now kids, if you can't behave you'll have to wait in the car. Be nice, SuperAlpha's a newcomer asking for some advice. We don't want him thinking that everyone here is rude do we? Try www.orienteering.org -- a search at Google will also point you in the right direction (no pun intended). Hope this helps. Kids, did you see how easy that was? *****
  8. Wow. Six months after the start of the year is a bit late to be making new years resolutions. Perhaps this topic should fade away... *****
  9. quote: Canadazuuk wrote:I had trouble locating that topic. Leave it to Zuuk... a bit late but that's funny. Zuuk, you are THE KING of digging up old posts. *****
  10. My apology Zuuk, I misunderstood. That's a very cool way to look at it. Good idea. *****
  11. quote: Divine wrote:Hmm... sock puppet or not, actually most of us don't still usually know who the rude person really is. For the most part this is true but locally I think a lot of cachers run into each other face to face. I know in my neighborhood I've met about a half dozen or so cachers in a period of a few months. I'd guess that most of the active posters on these boards have met at least a few cachers in their areas in person. When you look at it this way, the reputation for being rude can be carried much further than these boards. *****
  12. Try Toys 'r' Us or some other large toy store chain. They usually carry this kind of stuff long after its popularity has dropped (Inspector Gadget was hot last year). Zuuk: I think the world can tolerate two Inspector Gadget TB's. *****
  13. quote: Loonie Easter Bunnies wrote:Why do we want to end someone else's topic? Uh... perhaps because the topic discussion has been exhausted and it's dwindled to the point of regurgitated drivel? *****
  14. Although, not technically an end of post plea, my favourite closing post line is: "ok you were all given a warning...I am closing the thread. " (Hydee) *****
  15. I've noticed that on several occasions when a thread has beat to death that someone invariably adds something to the end of their post like "this thread needs to die" and there is always at least one person who will make another post. Is this normal? What's your favourite end of post plea? *****
  16. quote: SylvrStorm wrote:Of course, as a Canadian, I'd rather watch a PBS special on the extinction of Jerry Springer That's funny. Actually, I believe the show of choice is now the critically acclaimed (or is it critically ashamed?) Canadian production of 'Trailer Park Boys'. Now there's some good TV. Time for this thread to slip away... *****
  17. Although not inflatable, there is an alternative especially if weight is an issue. Check out Geodesic Airolite Boats -- you can have a canoe that weighs less than 20 pounds. And they're very inexpensive to build. I've seen a couple of these boats in person and am very impressed with the construction -- as well as being extraordinarily light, they are also extremely tough and durable. *****
  18. I'm rather surprised (and find it refreshing) at the near absence of sock puppets posting to this thread. Perhaps we should have this discussion more often since they seem to have given up their 'right' to express themselves. Ha ha ha. Could be the start of something good... *****
  19. quote: Moun10Bike wrote:Given that, I think that 100 in a day is quite possible. Well, I won't argue the point because you may very well be right. It just seems a bit unreasonable considering that you've only got a few minutes to find each cache -- there are several caches that I've just walked up to and found nearly instantly but there are also many that have taken a fair bit longer to find. You mention 'we'. How many people are you talking about here? I assume that these Cache Machine events are not a single person? *****
  20. quote: Canadazuuk wrote:Not a chance. They could be reasonably expected to hit 40-50 per person... and that's a 16 hour day. I agree. I doubt that they're going to get anywhere close to a hundred. On a sixteen hour day that would require averaging 1 cache every 9.6 minutes. Even doing a 24 hour day would require finding a cache every 14.5 minutes and that includes travel time between caches. Having a problem finding one cache could screw the whole day up. Personally, I don't think a hundred in a day is remotely possible. *****
  21. There's an upcoming attempt on July 12 by travisl of Washington State to do 100 caches in a single day in Victoria, BC. See the Victoria Cache Machine thread in the Canada forum for more info. *****
  22. Very correct SylvrStorm. It's kind of like the song "America Pie" by Don McLean. *****
  23. quote: Gonk and Geefel wrote:Do you really think that they wouldn't figure out a way to get back in? Come on people! They are only wasting your time if you let them!!! I agree with this 100%. But the problem is that there is always someone who take them seriously and feed into their deceitful follies. When was the last time you saw a thread where someone says "Test" or "Oops, delete this thread" and it didn't get twenty replies. Perhaps if everyone stopped responding to sock puppets it might make the biggest difference... *****
  24. quote: cachew nut wrote:You are the reason I thought of this topic Man, you've certainly got the wit of a sock puppet today. *****
  25. quote: graewulf wrote (and a few others mentioned it as well):wont work... every time you connect to the internet your IP address can be diffferent. But there are a lot of people with high speed access that do have static IP addresses (yes, I know there are many ways to get around this but there are many who don't have a clue about how to go about it). *****
