The person above me has a way of stating the obvious. Who knows what pearls of wisdom the person below me will offer this thread... *****

I would post the picture and info but it has nothing to do with caching. The person below me... *****

But I do tap my toe. The person below me is going to post a note suggesting that this thread should end. *****

Who cares? If a group of people want to have an event tailored to their specific interest, so what? Why should they open it up to people that don't share their specific interest? Do you really want to go to an event that is about something that you're not really interested in? It's really not going to cause me to lose any sleep. And I certainly don't care if they don't invite me to attend. There's lots of other things that I can be doing. Why all the fuss here? *****

quote: Sugar Kane wrote:I think Huntnlady meant that two versions of each photo should be taken and submitted, one with GPSr and one without. And yes, you're right, it wouldn't be hard to fake that - although IDENTICAL shots with and without GPSr would be a little fishy. If I understand what Huntnlady is saying here, is that perhaps there should be a direct caching connection attached to the contest. I agree but just feel that this suggestion may be far too limiting. What I'm getting at is that a photo contest is about the photo. That's it. Having to add the GPSr will take away from the quality of the entries and inhibit the person taking the photo. For instance, if I'm walking down a trail and come across a moment where in a few seconds, the sun is going to be exactly where I envision it to make the scene 'picture perfect', the last thing I want is to stick a GPSr in there (or even have to think about it). I want to capture that exact moment. It would be a shame not to be able to enter that picture of your niece's expression when she opened the cache -- all because you didn't have your GPSr extended out at arms length to be in the photo. I think the essence of the photo is to show different aspects of caching. The connection to caching is that the photo was taken while caching. Some honesty is expected from entrants and I think we can take his/her word that their entry was taken at the cache location. The proximity to a cache location is the connection to caching and I think that is enough. To me, adding a GPSr in the shot sounds more like a Locationless cache than a photo contest. quote:As far as wallpaper goes -- I doubt the server will have the capacity to handle wallpaper-size image files? That very well may be. But it may be a possiblity as well. Best to keep it in mind, I'd say. *****

quote: Loonie Easter Bunnies wrote:please let me know WELL WITHIN the 24-hour expiry so I can delete them Boy, I've noticed that you sure don't have a problem editing your posts to say something significantly different, hours after you first posted something. That's just rude -- especially after people have responded to your original post (please don't argue that no one has responded to this post -- I know that already). If people are to take you seriously perhaps you should consider what you are wanting to say and get your thoughts sorted out before you post them. Editing your posts a few minutes after posting them to correct spelling or grammatical errors is no big deal (I believe you have 6 or 7 minutes after making a post to edit without 'This message was edited...' showing up) but changing the meaning or thrust of the post several hours later is just not cool. If you realize after making your post that you have something more to say, or you want to recant what you said, post a new message. This is one reason why I don't like posts being editable for 24 hours -- it allows far too much abuse. If you're going to play ball, at least play fairly. Regarding "Did you SEE what those two DID to embarrass and taunt me?" -- please don't cry about taking a few hits when you yourself are pretty good about dishing them out -- you got just a small taste (a very small taste) of what's possible -- if you can't take this, then maybe you shouldn't be in the forums at all. Did you see the movie 'A League of Their Own', where Tom Hanks played the manager for the womens baseball team -- my favourite line was "Are you crying? Are you crying? ARE YOU CRYING? There's no crying, there's no crying in baseball!". That was great, and that's what I'm talking about here. You know how things can get in these forums. If you dish it out, you're going to get it back. If you're not up to it, then stay away. *****

quote: Huntnlady wrote:Maybe each photo should be submitted with accompanying photo with GPS in the shot to rule out old vacation photos, kind of like a locationless. I don't like this idea. How about the only requirement is that the photo had to have been uploaded with a previous cache log? The problem I have with your suggestion is that I take a lot of photos when I'm caching and very rarely do I take one with my GPS in the photo (kind of wrecks the shot). Some of my best photos have been taken while caching and as long as the location is verifiable by the cache logs I don't see where anything else should be required. Some of the winning entries might make good wallpaper files and might become available for downloading -- I certainly am not going to have a wallpaper image on my computer that has someone's hand holding a GPSr. Another negative aspect of this is that the potential for faking a photo goes way up -- and we've been down that road before haven't we? Just take a photo -- upload it with your cache log photos -- enter it into the contest -- and may the best photos win. Simple and easy. *****

quote: BassoonPilot wrote:Did you mean for hiding a cache, or you just couldn't find the access point for a cache you were seeking? If it's the former, the answer is undoubtedly "not unless it's a 1/1 dash-and-grab." Zuuk spoke to me about this and it's for hiding a cache. Definitely, it isn't a 1/1 dash-and-grab. You have to know Zuuk though, and his caches are some of the best locations around. He puts a great deal of thought into his placements. I've spent all of 15 hours finding the right location for a cache. Guess I'm spending too much time as well. *****

How about a deceptoflage? For my next cache I'm going to place a whole bunch of false 'flages' around the area to throw the cachers off. Maybe 10 or so varieties of the common 'flages' will work good. Piles of parallel sticks, mounds of bark, pyramids made of rocks, mountains of leaves, clumps of grass scattered everywhere -- and then I'll just place the cache behind a log. *****
