  1. Arrr ye scurvy dog -- Av ya forgot yer pirate talkin accent agin'? *****
  2. quote: ZoomZoom wrote:There was s news story not long ago about a 70 year old man killing a cat with only a pocket knife. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if memory serves me correct, that fellow was damaged pretty badly by the cat and was (or is still) in hospital for quite some time. *****
  3. quote: Titus2_13:what religion is represented by the term Amen? It doesn't matter, everyone understood. *****
  4. quote: LooneyTunes wrote:In my opinion, though, this data should be open and people should be able to copy, sort and distribute it however they want. Anyone who thinks this is technically unfeasible isn't paying attention. And then there would be no questions of liability, ownership, etc. I just don't see how this could work (and I have been paying attention). Who is going to foot the bill for it? Who is going to regulate how it is used? Who is going to ensure it's accuracy? Who is going to ensure that it is always available? Perhaps you could explain how you see this happening. *****
  5. quote: crashmore wrote:I don't see it as inflamatory nor was it meant that way. Whether you see it that way or intended it to be that way doesn't matter. It was that way. It's a two way street, my friend. quote: crashmore wrote:I don't see any civility in the early posts in this thread. This may be true, or it may not be. However, as a representative of the site, you should not be responding with posts that basically say "Great suggestions, now go stick it". How would you respond if someone were to answer your questions in that manner? As he mentioned in his last post above, he just wants to discuss this issue. I don't agree with what he's saying either, but it sounds like he's being civil to me. *****
  6. quote: crashmore wrote:Great suggestions now why don't you run off and implement them elsewhere rather than simply complaining here. Aren't you an admin, crashmore? Didn't you, in a post not so long ago say "...you will find that if you treat us with some civility when coresponding with us you're alot more likley to get positive results." Civility is a two way street and your reply here is not very civil. quote: crashmore wrote:If you're so passionate about the direction the sport should take then go do something about it, no one's holding you back. He is doing something about it -- he's expressing his complaint to people here. Perhaps, LooneyTunes' grievances are not well founded, or perhaps they are, but your inflamatory reply and lack of civility does nothing to remedy the situation. It's no wonder that the admins have such a difficult time of it when hostile replies like yours are given by people who represent this site. *****
  7. From recent forest fire coverage in BC and from cache logs, I'm guessing that the following caches are now permanently archived: Kettle Valley RR KVR's Many Views McAleys KVR (Kelowna) Stash Trestle Tunnel As of this morning, 8 of the 18 Kettle Valley Railroad trestles are gone. Hope it rains soon... *****
  8. quote: Sissy-n-CR wrote:Hmmmmmmmmm? ----------------- Sounds like a cache I'm working on. There's something puzzling about this cryptic cache that recently popped up in my neighbourhood. 9. quote: TBismine wrote:I'm confused. Which is it? You spend alot of money and time placing caches or your a newbie and haven't placed them. Arrr ye scurvy dog -- Av ya forgot yer pirate talkin accent? Seems ta me yer not fit fer the likes of a real pirate. And laddy, whots with the girly soundin' moniker? TBismine? Ha ha ha. Could ya whip me up some grub ye wimpy wench? And grab me some grog while yer at it. A more fearsome name I've not heard, fer sure. I'm shakin in me blue suede pantaloons. Ha ha ha. *****
  10. quote: Xitron wrote:lol Jomarac5 the smack was for the amen, since we were talking about not discussing religion. Point taken though Yeah, I got that. Glad you saw the humour in it. *****
  11. Smacks the crap out of Jomarac5???? Right. *****
  12. quote: Xitron wrote:I simply said this forum is not a place to discuss religon. Amen to that. *****
  13. How does everyone feel about the 20th-21st of September? Obviously, it will depend on the area being open. Keep your fingers crossed for some rain before then. *****
  14. Before ye start lookin to 'ave the pirate walk the plank, ye better make fer certain that ye gots the right scurvy dog. Seems that the booty 'as gone missin' from the Washington area. This 'ere Mr. Benjamin is from Pennsylvania. Last time I checked, PA was nowhere near the likes of WA. All pirate identity talk aside, I see that the Captain has been keeping an eye on the discussion here. Seems he doesn't like some of the names that he's been given here. This is from his bulletin board: <snip> Subject: Me Captains Name ------------------------------------------ Arrr, I be seein that ye be callin me funny Captain names on yer Caching pages. So If ye all be so smart then give me some good names to call meself. (please keep it Pg-13) Arrrr!!!! Like CAPT'N POOPYHEAD thanks woof & lulu </snip> So now he's crying into his rum. Captain Poopyhead -- Ha ha ha. Oooh, me timbers are a shiverin'. And he calls himself a pirate. He's a disgrace to all who have flown the skull and crossbones, I should think. Hey Cap'n -- are you still going for that Madonna of the pirates with the single name thing? Ha ha ha. *****
  15. Altruistic? Why don't you lay down on the couch and just say what you mean Zuuky? There was a pleasant on-topic conversation happening here between Pan and I and then you came in with this, what?... I'm not sure what it is, but you're way, way, off base here. Take a chill pill Zuuky, and take note that I'll no longer respond to that which you know not about. *****
  16. Why are you yelling Zuuky? Go back and read the thread and you'll have the answers to most of your questions. The only questions that you wont get the answers to are numbers 2 and 3. And the answer to those is: I don't know and I don't think so. Why are you so bent out of shape about this? If you don't like it, go back to your supposed self exile or stop looking at this thread. Chill out Zuuk. The veins in your forehead are going to start popping out. *****
  17. quote: Sissy-n-CR wrote:But, you don't give yourself the ominous name. You earn it. Others give you the name. I don't think that rule applies with pirates. It is indeed true of nicknames but I think there's a lot more latitude given with pirate names. Although, having said that, a name bestowed upon a pirate would probably be quite acceptable. quote:Of course, given that he's not that bad of a pirate, maybe "Capt'n Not So Dreadful," "Capt'n Agreeable," or "Capt'n Kiddee Cache?" I'm not sure that he's not "bad". He's certainly not good at being a menacing pirate, so that would make him a bad pirate, wouldn't it? How about "Captain Deplorable?" Doesn't the sound of that get your timbers shivering? Captain Deplorable -- Ooooh... I like it. *****
  18. quote: Pan wrote:My point: Even if you restrict your permission to "operation and promotion" of the site, isn't that "promotion" part a little tricky? It could be, but doesn't necessarily need to be. Worded as simply as you've put it would probably be too vague. If the wording states that the property is used exclusively for promoting the site, which could include, publishing of books, posters, videos, and other promotional materials then it would be fine, even if doing so were to make a profit -- so long as the focus of the usage is to promote the site which is specified with a URL. They could also use it for many different applications such as banner ads to be displayed on other sites, but it would have to *directly* promote the specified website. *****
  19. quote: travisl wrote:The Captain has tempered his looting stance. In various places, he's added rules for looting: Well, it's like all good things -- it takes time to cultivate the guidelines. Obviously, the Captain has listened to what the people's concerns are and has re-evaluated his position -- he is making efforts to please the people, and his crew. quote: travisl wrote:I'm on the fence about whether piratecaching.com is a bad thing, or if it adds a fun new twist to the game. I'll bet that it would be a lot easier for you to decide if the 'Captain' didn't have such a whimpy name. *****
  20. quote: Pan wrote:What if, and this is a big if, Groundspeak came out and said that the only purpose for which they would use images uploaded to this site was for "operation and promotion of the site" would take satisfy you that your images were protected? As I've mentioned several times in this thread, this would be fine with me as long as it isn't vaguely worded. It's the following wording that gives them 'unlimited' license to the photos that doesn't sit well. <snip> By submitting any Submission to Groundspeak, You grant Groundspeak a worldwide, non-exclusive, transferable, perpetual, irrevocable, fully-paid royalty-free license and right to use, reproduce, distribute, import, broadcast, transmit, modify and create derivative works of, license, offer to sell, and sell, rent, lease or lend copies of, publicly display and publicly perform that Submission for any purpose and without restriction or obligation to You. </snip> And also: <snip> and to create new Sites or derivative works (including without limitation by combining the Submission with other content) for public display or performance via any and all media or technology now known or later developed. The foregoing rights may be licensed and sublicensed through unlimited tiers of third parties. </snip> I would grant permission *only* for the sole purpose of "operation and promotion of the site" (they would need to specify the URL of the site or sites). I will not give my permission to use this information for *any* other purpose. I don't see how this would be unreasonable. *****
  21. quote: Breaktrack wrote:Yes, but the operative term is *GOOD* pirate story.....lol. Yes, Breaktrack, you are correct. It must have a balance of all the right qualities. Who knows? Perhaps this one will end up being full of excitement, adventure, and mayhem. But then again, we've never had a 'good' forum pirate so chances are, that it won't happen here either. Just take a look at this guys name -- he calls himself 'Captain' or 'Cap'n'. How lame is that? I've previously posted the following in another forum, but I think you'll agree that it's appropriate to re-post it here (just in case the 'Cap'n' missed it): <snip> How the heck is a pirate to be remembered or taken seriously if he doesn't have a name that rings of terror? I mean really -- how *threatening* is "Cap'n"? My grandmother could beat the crap out of a name like that. To be a real menace, a pirate needs to be feared -- he needs a name that the mere whisper of it makes one shudder -- something like, "The Evil Captain Flint", "Rotten Richard McFallon", "Black Beard" or "Dread Pirate Roberts". Those name work, heck I got a little shiver just typing them. You can't be a real pirate if you don't have a memorable and fearsome name. I've heard that it's a pirate story rule in some countries. And another thing, what's with the single name thing? Sounds to me that's he trying to be the 'Madonna' or maybe even the 'Prince' of the pirate scene? How stupid. A Madonna pirate -- give me a break. Pirate's are supposed to be tough. Cap'n?!? Ha ha ha. I'm shaking in my blue suede doubloons! </snip> *****
  22. quote: Pan wrote:By the by J5, it was a joke. I didn't think of it any other way. It's funny. *****
  23. quote: Planet wrote:Not only do I not thoroughly read terms and conditions, because it gives me a headache... Can't say I'm surprised to hear this. As I've said, some don't get it -- I guess you're one of them. I like Pantalaimon's new avatar as well -- it's very cool. And btw, just to keep this thread on topic, it's fine with me that he uses it -- it's rather flattering. Thanks Pan. *****
  24. quote: clearpath wrote:Oh the joy. What would a day in the forums be like if the Canadians weren't mixing it up? You people are awesome. Thanks for the entertainment. You're very welcome! Have to say though, that it wouldn't be nearly the same without the likes of yourself being here too. Now if we could just figure out that Zuuky was trying to say in his last post. *****
