  1. Further, if you're going to hide a cache in a state park located in the city, you'll need a permit, which you can print out here: http://www.geocachingny.org/GeocacheApplication.pdf
  2. I like to make it all classy-like by pronouncing it "d'noeuf", like I'd imagine they do in France.
  3. Eh, anyone who had a right to true outrage over it is long since dead. It's tasteless, but whatever.
  4. I had a friend that had a magnetic "Centers for Disease Control Specimen Procurement Unit" sign on his car door for when he parked in malls or less illustrious areas. Worked like a charm.
  5. You wanted agenda-less caches, you got one.
  6. Be careful what you ask for.. you just might get it. I am finding this out.
  7. Maybe what GC should do is just become a straight listing service to make sure no agendas get through, considering EVERYTHING is an agenda. Everything, including the sacred cow of CITO. Very simply list coords, attributes and container type and be done with it.
  8. I actually wanted to be clear about this - the reviewer, who has been helpful to me in the past, isn't at fault, nor is he/she "anti-troop" or anything of the sort. They only operate within the guidelines set by Groundspeak. If anything, it's Groundspeak that are the un-nuanced, scared of their own shadows simpletons.
  9. I was really out of this until this last post. I'm not attacking you, Brian. I know you do a lot here but if that's Groundspeak's position then perhaps they need to nuance it a little.
  10. FWIW - the cache was published last night after I took out the offending sentence.
  11. I honestly don't know except that perhaps the better expression would be "anything that remotely invites controversy." A cache that honors, say, those in the American Revolution has little chance of offending someone even though it pushes an agenda (liberty, democracy) whereas someone might get all butthurt over the mention of a soldier. Groundspeak decided to call that an agenda and there ya go. A little disingenuous, but whatever. At the end of the day, it is what it is.
  12. OK, fair enough - I'll remove the wording. Still sticks in my craw because I don't believe that I wasn't pushing an agenda beyond "Remember this guy," but I get where you guys are coming from. Thanks for your help.
  13. The page doesn't express support or resistance to the war or a government. It say to remember this guy and people like him. Groundspeak should be ashamed of themselves. I'll remember to lock the kids away next Memorial Day since that's not a family friendly day and it clearly has an agenda.
  14. So I hid a cache today and as is my practice, I placed a Fallen Heroes geocoin in the cache and placed a quick blurb in the cache page about the service member. I received the following response from the reviewer today: Geocaching is supposed to be a light family activity and not a platform for an agenda. The quote above taken from your cache page crosses that line from informative to agenda. The above quote should be stricken from your cache page. I'm temporarily disabling your new cache to clear it from the review queue. Please respond with an 'enable' note which will move your cache page back into the queue where I'll find and gladly finish reviewing it for you. Thoughts?
  15. Is there an edit I can do to the everytrail gpx file to make it work? I have tried running both the gpx and the kml file thru gpsbabel and neither will process. Is there a known fix or workaround? I've been using this with some success: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input
  16. Considering she worked for the OSS, she may have very well prevented it.
  17. Everything in it's context, so maybe using a symbol of hate in a game might not be the proper context for it. Disclaimer - yes, i know the swastika ancient symbolpeaceloveharmonyblahblahblahzzzz. Sorry, don't care. If we're going to say everything in its context then the symbol has to be viewed in its context. Sorry the swastika got co-opted by savages, but in 99% of the people's contructs, the swastika is a symbol of Nazi Germany. That it was used by other people is mere trivia.
  18. whoops - thanks, Mister! Edit: I just tried this out and it is a REALLY cool tool to have. You rock
  19. Hey - thanks so much for getting back to me. I'll link to this gpx, but it appears none of them seem to work. I download the file, attempt to open it in either MapSource or BaseCamp and...nothing. Error message. http://www.everytrail.com/downloadGPX.php?trip_id=166245 thanks again!
  20. I just got my order today and all I can say is WOW! thanks, Stefan!
  21. When I tried to open a gpx containing track information for a particular hike from everytrail.com via BaseCamp (Mac) or MapSource (PC) I get the error ""/Users/xxxxx/Downloads/26099.gpx" is not a valid GPX file and could not be opened." What gives? I'm guessing I have to somehow convert the gpx to something Garmin-friendly? Secondly - and this is a dumb one - how do I access said track once it's loaded on my GPSMap60csx? Thanks in advance!
  22. There have been rumors about the use of PEDs. Just sayin'....
