  1. I would say that this is a change that Groundspeak has placed on the site to limit the search from any point to 50 miles/80 kilometers for members vs unlimited distances for premium members. It's the same out here in BC. This limit is on any search from any point. For example a search from any cache you pick will only return a list of caches in the 50 mile circle. Just another way to make Premium Membership that much more desireble.
  2. On May 2, 2000, at approximately midnight, eastern savings time, the great blue switch* controlling selective availability was pressed. Twenty-four satellites around the globe processed their new orders, and instantly the accuracy of GPS technology improved tenfold. Tens of thousands of GPS receivers around the world had an instant upgrade. *there is no actual blue switch Hmmm... Either you looked that up or you have a photographic memory... Less than a two minute turn around... Well done either way. Your turn now. I hate being home sick, but at least the computor gets some daytime use.... And wahoo, a question I could answer with out looking it up. I actually remembered it because when I first read it a few years ago I found it funny they didn't call it the red button, but then we all know what would have happened if they had hit the wrong red button.... Now on to my question, what is breakover angle? Shouldn't be too tough with all the diferent modes of travel that cachers use here.

  4. Yes, congratulations. I tip the scales at 340 but that's down a little and it's due to geocaching. We tried a cache that requires a 9 km round trip the 4th day we started caching. Didn't make it. We've been there 3 times since then just because it's a way cool place to go to. Glad you didn't get so frustrated that you tossed the GPS into the closest river. I too have bookmarked your site and look forward to reading your posts.
  5. Hmmm, this never works. Do you think it's the Gortex jacket or the cell phone on my belt that tips 'em off
  6. My wife, son and I did a cache in a small park in a town about 50 Kms to the north of the city we live in. It was dusk and in the trees it was getting quite hard to see. I was leading, my son following and my wife behind him. All of a sudden my wife starts screaming, I jog back to her asking what's wrong. That's when I get my first of 16 wasp stings. We had walked over an in ground wasp nest. My son and I had got them mad and they started stinging my wife. We ran like h*** and for quite a distance. Those little yellow and black terrors don't give up easily. Final tally, 28 stings on my wife, 16 on me and 3 on my son. Long drive home and now I carry anti histemene.
  7. Yep, been there done that Lot more gratification on finding the car then the piece of tupperware. On a serious note, it also shows why it's a good reason to carry a compass and know how to use it. Why, you ask. Do this test, walk deep into the woods with yous gps on. Once there turn off the GPS, open back, remove batteries. Now throw one battery as hard as you can East, the other throw again as hard as you can West.... now find where you parked I've done search and rescue here in BC and a couple of times we've had to find persons who thought they'd be fine because they had a GPS.
  8. Please tell us what it means (in human not Technical Jargon ) Its Broken I thought something was funny last night about 7:00 PM Groundspeak time when I opened a couple of pages on cacher profiles and below their cache finds list was displayed the programing paths and links etc. It was wierd and I thought 'Oh-oh this can't be good........'
  9. Latest I've found a cache is Midnight, home by 1:00 AM, and yes the wife thinks I'm nuts although she went for a FTF at 6:15 AM
  10. Nose has been re-jointed, not that it was like pushed over to my ear or anything... Thanks cacherunner Islands are made for waypoints Dang I wish this darn thing had a smell checker feature
  11. quote:TEAM KFWB GPS, what's really weird is if you go to your profile, it says you hid 167. From there, if you click on the 167 to see caches hidden by you you get 160 caches by you. But if *search* for caches by your user name, you get 1 cache, from a totally different person! When you *search* you are looking up caches *FOUND* by the name you type in. The real TEAM KFWB has 160 hidden, 1 found. What the TEAM is talking about is this, Here is The real TEAM's profile. This is the profile of the fake TEAM Islands are made for waypoints
  12. No Luke, you need to put the blind fold on before you get out your light saber and wack that thing out of the air.... Islands are made for waypoints [This message was edited by VI Waypoint Hunters on March 22, 2003 at 10:53 AM.]
  13. Ok, this is getting a little ridiculous. Things kinda get back to normal here on the Island then someone decides that things are boring and tosses a grenade into the room with the pin pulled.. Islands are made for waypoints
  14. The Venture does not have mapping capability. It's memory holds 'Points of Interest' For mapping you have to move up to a Legend
  15. I think the problem your having might be related to geometry in two dimensions while Lat/Long is actually in three (roung orb and all that) Please post an explanation if you get one Thanks
  16. I'll be removing this cache, Don't Fall for this Englishman or his River , just because the provincial government has decided to start collecting parking fees at this park and several other ones that are 'high use'. I have a problem with 'user fees' because it is real hard to target one use for fees while ignoring other uses or services that were once provided for by the government.
  17. Well this is another persona of a family of cachers on Vancouver Island. I'm an electrician who is presently working as a building operator/maintainer for the Fedral government. My wife works in fast food, my son is a student and a great BMX racer. Oh and we cache together, but that's not ever work even when we're sweating...
