I have had a Legend for right on a year and no probles yet However it also recieves fairly light usage, about once or twice a week, not every day.

Well I don't know of any cheap or freeware program to do this, However MathCAD does an excelent job of this. I was able to import and graph your data as a surface,contour,scatter or just about any other 3-D graph I wanted. If you want I could generate a graph for you if you sent me the whole data file, not as good as playing with it yourself but still something. I did a google and came up with this page showing a lot of cheap graphing software as well http://www.imagespro.com/programs/math/0-3.html if you explore those you may find a program that will do what you want

OK now that you have set Mapsource to the correct format, D M.MMM you now need to reenter the waypoint in the corrected format. I have Mapsource metroguide and I put in the cache as listed and it was right on the beach where you show in your picture that it should be

I bought Metroguide recently and the data version listed in the about metroguide is 3.00. The map data is broken down into much smaller chunks than the 2.00 data. Most pieces are under 1 megabyte.

Upgrade to the newest firmware, 2.5 and this feature is there, Choose the option menu on the main menu to access it.

Thank you for your response, Both explanations(well they are basicly the same) are very sensible and had pretty much figured as much. However nowere in the manual, including the page you reference has a screen shot of the light bars or any mention of them in the text. I don;t mean to sound mad or confrontational, just saying I have RTFM

Ok I didn't make myself clear enough, my bad Before any lock exists, the satellite is clear, then sometimes it is grey, along with the str bar being grey. Then with a lock it is black and the str bar is black as well. There are three distict depictions of the signal. I understand two of them. I want to understand the third. First depiction is satellite icon is clear with black number in it and the signal bar is labeled with the number but there is no bar. Second depiction is satellite icon is grey with black number and the signal bar is grey. Third Depiction the satellite icon is black with clear numbers and the signal bar is black. I hope this makes my question clearer

Hi all, I have a question about my eTrex Legend that I have had for a week now. I have read the manual multiple times and checked Garmins web site and I cannot find the answer to this question. Ok I have the lastest firmware(2.5)and sometimes when it is locking on to satellites the signal bar will appear grey instead of black. It then (usually) will change to black. It only does this on some satellites though. Is this an indicater of an especially weak signal? I want to know! Thank you in advance for any info on this. Roads? Where we're going we don't need....Roads.

Are you absolutely sure the error message said you needed to unlock the software. The reason I ask is I also just purchased an eTrex Legend and when I first uploaded a map it asked if I was sure I wanted to do that because I would be wiping out the factory installed Marine POI database. I of course said yes, because I live in NV However if you really want the Marine POI back you can get it from the software download page on Garmins website. Anyway when I read your post I thought that maybe this was what happened.
