  1. Yes it seems to be Garmin understanding of user requirements. Nice one! Thanks.. What I would like to add is altitude based coloring of active&stored tracklog. To where was climb up and where my path goes down.. Travel up with warm colors, travel down in blue (cold) color set.. There will be visible what direction I came on map (up/down). Intenzity of this color is based on speed up/down. It would be fine for pilots to see where was thermal area and also for turists to see how hard was/is track.. Garmin..Please think about this idea Example of google map with flight record (3D tracklog)
  2. New firmware is working fine, but there is still problem with map rendering. After few hours of using, my map was not able to render correctly while zoom in. Symptoms: there was only green backround (or boxed artefacts on screen), but possible to zoom out to very high level.. When trying to zoom-in again, it stays on boxed map without drawing of details at some level. Switching of profiles or maps does not help to show details of map. Only restart resolved this issue. Second problem I've found in autonavigation. I've created route in profile Recreational (find out target, Navigate to and set to autoroute switch. My path was recalculated and shown correctly. Later on switched to Automotive profile and my navigation to taget does not work (map not mooving, no recalcualtion of route..).. Only restart resolved this issue..
  3. Since version of 2.93 beta, Oregon supports A301 protocol in Spammer mode, it would be possible to download tracklog from Oregon memory directly into application.
  4. I also find out this type of problem of 4th-5th April. Just speculation. Could it be connected with Mr. Obama visit in Europe ? There could be applied some GPS acuracy error for limited area and time in GPS system and maybe Oregon devices are not able to handle this specific setting correctly... (incorrect interpretation of almanac and when it was fully reloaded it is working fine). Also there is probably relation to upgrade path. Who upgraded directly from non beta version has troubles. Who upgraded each step it is ok ..
  5. Very cool release..I did not believe it is true story on 1st April I've found first problem. After few minutes of playing with device -- white screen on map (grey-gree when switched to different profile) .. Profile change did not help, only restart solve it.. Hopefuly there won't be other .. This is known story since Colorado and could be map combination (autonavigation products) related
  6. I think this is already available for POIs and Waypoints on my unit. Yes it is.. But I did not find out way how to set proximity alarm parameters directly on unit. For POI it is working fine, but for WP I need mapsource and computer to do it ..
  7. I'd like to add these nice to have requests: - In POI database add possibility to show POI icon with name - Use PageUp/PageDown arrows to scroll through cache listing (anoying to pan over 4 pages of listing and 2 pages of log records) - Ability to set proximity alarm for waypoint - separate counters per profile with separate/global zero - use name of profile in stored tracklog description (automotive, geocaching, fitness, flying, marine, ..) - adaptive tracklog coloring to se how fast and where it was uphill or downhill - important for flying to see where was good thermal - use of warm/cold colors for ascent/descent - more warm means more dirrence in altitude
  8. There is BIG difference.. Oregon now supports A301 protocol pro tracklog transfer into PC in Spanner mode. So it would be use-able for competitions (declaration of flights, XC trails, ... ) and some business applications as source of valid and not tampered tracklog data. Thank you very much Garmin !!! Perfect implementation.. Tested and working as expected.. Further testing needed, but this could be used as example of very positive approach to customer specific requirements.. BR Radek Kafka
  9. I've also received positive feedback from this e-mail about implementation of tracklog=>PC (A30x) protocol in next release. This was critical show stopper to use this device as tracklog recorder for competition purposes (flying, paragliding) and also for some business applications, where there is need to have authentic tracklog data as evidence of presence somewhere etc... Wow .. Big change in Garmin approach a I hope that they will continue in customer wishes listening..
  10. Accuracy needs additional testing and comparing results with reference devices and/or well known reference points. It could be some kind of accuracy "improvement" by writing into code "accuracyEstimation--" For verfification I'll visit some reference points and check how it working now. First impression is very good.
  11. Did you load the maps using Mapsource? If so, was this the description given in mapsource when you built the mapset? It was loaded via Mapsource.. Now I'm trying to reupload mapsets and hopefully there will be visible difference. Tomorrow I'd have some results.. BR, Radek
  12. I've found cosmetic problem on 2.85 Beta. Map descriptions in map selection (Settings - > Maps -> Map information) where I could enable/disable particular mapset, all descriptions are wrong.. Eg. --- Enabled - City Navigator European airspace paragliding map, FUNCHAL, PORTUG --- Disabled - TOPO Czech 2 PRO European airspace paragliding map, FUNCHAL, PORTUG --- etc.etc.. Despriptions are completely wrong.. Have someone else found this ? Or it is specificis issue of my profiles ? Radek
  13. I don't think they have troubles with costumer communication. My experience is very good. They are sending responses in few hours and these responses are informative for me. I did not received in last 4 month any "auto response" as before from central helpdesk. Garmin did very big step forward (especially their Europe/UK Service Dept). When you contact global helpdesk.. It is awful and I think it is another "victim" of centralization/cost saving/outsourcing.. Idea of managers behind is that call centre full of "monkeys" located somewhere in India/China/etc. will cost less (it is true) and would respond to 80% of customer mails.. If you would like to have real response, you have to break through 1st level of "monkeys" (I'd like to apologise to these hard working people to name them as "monkeys", but their targets/earning/key figures are only number of responses with "some" quality..), you will get someone who is able to pass your request to design/development department and these people are realy thinking about customer requests. (but managers are doing decisions !!) What I don't understand in all cases are some design/technical decisions and there could source of troubles and customer complaints. Not all customers, but there is always group of people that would like some modification to be implemented - especially when this was very good and usefull feature of older Garmin devices.. (my case is absence of IOP A300 protocol for tracklog transfer or applying of GPX file signing to prevent their user modifications). I'd suggest to Garmin to make more open their device for public community.. 80-90% would be fine with Garmin firmware. When there would be way to build modifications based on OpenSource firmware it will build up new community of developers.. For that it would be fine to publish SDK/tools to build firmware modification for particular group of users (pilots, geocaching, fishing, XC, marine,...) .. That would realy increase value of Garmin devices (very good).. Of course these modifications will be uses on user own risk and for use cases that never will be covered by Garmin SW implementation. So the main problem I can see is that Garmin too "Close" .. When Garmin will became more "Open" - especially in SW area, it would bring new oportunities and ideas/requierements implementation without big costs. Side effect is building of community of people..
  14. Not necessarily. The processsor has to interact with the chipset and chipset software and dedicate a number of processor cycles to getting the sat info from it, constantly. If the chipset software has speeded up then the unit won't have to wait for it as much and everything will be a bit faster. JD I agree. It is hard to test it .. Just feeling and within each upgrade we are full of hope (waiting for some kind of miracle)
  15. It seems to be placebo effect that CO is faster after upgrading of GPS chip firmware to 2.8. .. GPS Unit firmware is still 2.7 as far as I know ..

  17. What about making SW of Colorado/Oregon/.. Open Source? It would be device of dreams for lot of users. Majarity of market will stay with Garmin official line of SW and community will at zero cost produce improvements and modifications. Garmin would build strong community of enthusiatist that will help to improve product for all..
  18. Colorado and other new garmin devices has great feature of Tracklog->GPX file storage. There is also B-side of problem. It is about downloading of tracklog directly from memory into application (protocol ID : A300 - Tracklog download). This protocol is not implemented for Colorado/Oregon/HCx etc.etc.. It was used for all previous garmin GPS models. It is big limitation for using of these devices as tracklog competition recorder (for flying, soaring, etc.etc..). Flying competitions has rules for signing of downloaded tracklogs via software. It should prevent manipulation with tracklogs. Certified applications are using A300 protocol to download tracklog from device directly with storing of device ID. It is confirmed by application, that tracklog is original file without any user manipulation or cheating. Now Garmin prepared nightmare for all users of this feature. GPX file is not signed and could be manipulted easily .. Could we believe, that Garmin will open A300 protocol for direct (internal memory => applicaiton) again ? Also there is possible to implement another method. Assign into GPX file some kind of strong signature, where it is possible to check if this file is orginal from device.. I hope that garmin find out some solution. Till that time I have to take 2 devices to record my flights as others . .(it is good busienss for Garmin )
