  1. "CHIP" Stands for "candidate hiding place", a spot you really think should have a cache in it. It might already have the cache you're currently looking for. If you have a well-developed geosense, you'll spot CHiPs (sorry, Erik) everywhere you go.
  2. When I go to this link, http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.asp...hernamehere>, I see a list of caches hidden by a certain geocacher, but the column that shows bearing and distance from my home coordinates is missing. Can you add it?
  3. Well then, I just don't have the right gear. I need a waterproof breathable t-shirt and a waterproof breathable coat. I want to keep warm and I want to keep dry.
  4. Zero. Without a GPS, it's not called geocaching; it's just a glorified easter egg hunt.
  5. One DE to another, she's just fine. How'd you like to rendez-vous with me one of these days and we'll go caching together?
  6. You tried to set a log on fire? That'll bring the police your way quite quickly. (Yes, I know you made a typo, but I just couldn't resist. Sorry. ) ((Yes, yes, I know this response came three months after the original post, but I only just now found it.))
  7. Ummmmmmmmm......................... Is this a joke? Because if it is, I don't seem to get it.
  8. You should put this idea into a Google Maps mashup.
  9. As in like Wikipedia? I'm thinking all geocaching.com needs to do is add full Unicode support. That would allow, say, Greek cachers to add listings in Greek and Russian cachers to add listings in Russian, e.g.
  10. Copyright issues? Unfortunately, some people don't want others copying their images and posting them elsewhere.
  11. Well, I tried it out, and apparently I live at peloseme mudabepa. BTW, that spreadsheet uses "O" for west ("Oeste" in Spanish). You might want to change it to "W", as in some languages (e.g. German and Dutch), "O" stands for east.
  12. Of course, the proper gear is useless in the rain if you suffer from excessive sweating at low air temps, as I do.
  13. Except that the weather forecast for our area says there's no end in sight to the rain. So I'm going to have to wait a long time for the next dry day to come.
  14. I don't like going out in rainy weather, so when my area is blanketed by a storm, it completely rules out geocaching for me for that day. I tried geocaching in the rain once, and it wasn't fun. Do any of you go geocaching in bad weather, and how do you make it fun?
  15. I have two (GPSMAP 76S, GPSMAP 76CSx), but I wouldn't mind two more (eTrex Vista HCx, Oregon 550t).
  16. I tried that once, and the owner of that particular cache got mad and told me to remove the coords.
  17. Understood. No one has to use it, but it can have value for a few people... Well, maybe one person.
  18. More specifically, you want to look near Beaver Creek, OR for Dave Ulmer.
  19. Try looking them up on whitepages.com. Mike Teague lives in Vancouver, WA, while Dave Ulmer lives in Oregon.
  20. The fact that it's white and placed against a white background will make it easily ignorable itself.
  21. Whoa! I bet King Boreas has a big geocache maintenance burden.
  22. I just came up with this. I borrowed from the system of flags used in auto racing and used the flags to describe the state a geocache is in. Available to find Needs maintenance Temporarily disabled Proximity violation (within 160 m of another cache, only seen by a reviewer) Should be archived (only seen by a reviewer) On your ignore list (from the use of a white flag to mean "I surrender", only seen by you) You found it Gee, I come up with such crazy concepts, don't I?
  23. I'm not quite sure I understand the situation you want the option for. If I have given a Traveler to another person the fact they have it in hand should be enough that they know they should log a Grab and pull it away from me. And if (s)he drops the trackable and forgets to log it?
  24. If you have a travel bug or geocoin in your inventory, and you load a page for another player, you should have the option of dropping that bug or coin on that other player, essentially saying you've given that trackable to the other player. This would send an e-mail to that player as a reminder that he or she should log a grab of that particular trackable.
