  1. Of course, you can always give the FTF hounds a smack in the face by choosing a cacher to bestow the FTF on ahead of time.
  2. I got my TI-89 off of eBay for only about $130, but my GPSr cost $325.
  3. Since posting my last response in this thread, my method of signing a geocache logbook has changed slightly. Before going out caching, I synchronize the clock on my TI-89 Titanium calculator (yes, it has a clock on it). The instant I catch sight of a cache, I call up a timestamp on the calculator, so I don't have to remember the time of my find before entering it into the logbook. With that, I no longer have to consult my GPSr's clock to verify that I have correctly memorized the time of a find, so I now keep my GPSr in my pocket while signing the log.
  4. Congrats, Bakkers. I also just made my 100th find, last Friday.
  5. Here you go, courtesy of Markwell: http://www.geocaching.com/articles/geocachenote.txt http://www.geocaching.com/articles/geocachenote.doc I'm thinking we should have a PDF version of this as well.
  6. My idea of a travelling cache that Groundspeak would accept is simply a logbook with a TB tag attached to it. But try to attach a usual TB suspect as well, like a teddy bear or other toy.
  7. North Korea is a "no GPSr's allowed" country. Everyday life is under an absolute political lockdown, and geocaching is unheard of there.
  8. I thought travelling caches were banned from geocaching.com a long time ago. Just put a travel bug dog tag on it.
  9. Well, EGNOS hasn't "recently gone active" in that sense of the idea. It's more like it's "come out of beta".
  10. At least I use the term "webwhacking" frequently on my own, because I do that so much when I go geocaching in the forest.
  11. Hey, I like that. But you can call it simply "Nelsoning". Also, these new terms aren't just for the GC forums, but for the whole geocaching world.
  12. This is usually the result of a long-drawn-out drunken bee dance by someone who doesn't have much in the way of geosense yet, when a particular location is "saturated" with track log points on his/her GPSr's screen. Here's an example: Tracklog saturation can actually be a great tool to check whether the cache you're looking for is at the site you think it's at, or whether it's displaced a few dozen metres. Think of it as another way to do waypoint averaging.
  13. This is when you have to walk under really low and thick ground cover (such as tree branches) with your back bent forward because you won't get past them with a straight spine.
  14. Then how about let the user specify the language?
  15. FYI, a map showing property lines is what is known as a cadastral map.
  16. Yes, but I would like the option to simply hide them altogether.
  17. I'd like to see Groundspeak implement an option to only have those caches that are available for finding be visible on the map, so I don't get my hopes up seeing a cache on the map only to realize after a little delay that it's disabled.
  18. In the forest, GPS accuracy gets worse the closer you get to the cache you're looking for.
  19. Erm.. meaning vector graphics? That's right, as an SVG, using Inkscape. What you might want to do to make that flag look better is put the G logo completely in the white portion of the compass rose, instead of have it protrude out to touch the coloured background.
  20. I agree. The distances used to be in kilometres, now they're in miles only. My brain cannot handle any units other than SI. Please put those distances back to kilometres.
  21. Just FYI, I designed this flag in an infinite-resolution environment.
  22. We have one of those cache series in our area.
  23. Not sure, but it's gotta be easier than triangulating with satellites that are 11,000 MILES away(!!!!) Triangulation is done with azimuths. GPS positioning is done with trilateration, which uses distances. If you use at least three cell towers, you can get some idea of the accuracy of the triangulation.
  24. YES THIS IS IT!!! Love it!!! Perfect!!!!!!!! So, like this, right?
