You beat me to it! :) I was just coming here to share that link.

We just heard from our partners at Garmin that they've released a beta version of updated device firmware that they believe will fix the problems you all have described. It's available for download at the link in mjr15197's post above. We'd appreciate it if anyone who tries it out can report back here on their experience.

I am still having the "app crash on startup"

running iOS 10.3.3 on iphone 7

updated the Geocaching app to version 5.6.1

i restarted my phone and it works now. Sorry for the noise.

    iOS-

In this release, we squashed a bunch of bugs and made several performance improvements. Most importantly, we fixed a bug that was causing the app to crash on startup for some users immediately after updating to a new version.

Thanks for reporting. We're monitoring of a couple new types of crashes that were previously masked by the other crash we fixed. We'll continue investigating and fixing!

With this release an older problem (which seemed to be fixed in recent weeks/months) reappeared - solved coordinates from web are not synced to the Android app.

Sorry you're having trouble with syncing of solved coords. To help us diagnose the problem, can you give some details about the exact steps you're going through to encounter the problem? Thanks!

Thanks. I'll stand down till I hear back from U.

    Thanks

PS Just did it again. Dot was back, check souvenirs, dot gone. This was afte I had cleared the cache on app.

I'm getting the same. The yellow dot seems to be telling me that I've got a new souvenir, and clears when I view them. Next time I use the app, the dot returns.

We released an API change earlier this morning that we think should resolve the re-appearing yellow dot for souvenirs. Can you two give it a try again and let me know if it's resolved? You'll likely still see the yellow dot the next time you open the app, but after you've viewed souvenirs and cleared the dot it shouldn't appear again.

    Hi Ben et al

The yellow dot is back. I did as Ben suggested and viewed my profile/souvenirs and the yellow dot disappeared. I believe I also did that while in the field earlier today and the dot goes away, but only for a while. Then, voila, its back. Just checked my phone now and the dot is back. I check my profile then view souvenirs and it disappears. Just like a bad penny, it comes back.I have closed the app, restarted the phone etc, but it keeps coming back. I just now cleared the cache on the GC app. Not sure I want to clear data as I'm not sure what that would do. Any suggestions?

Given what you've described above, I suspect there may be a bug on our end. We'll investigate.

Thanks Ben and others for responses. I thought the offline list/yellow dot issue was resolved, but today the yellow dot is back on my Android GC app. I was not offline and have no offline lists on the app nor on the GC site. I deleted all my lists back on July 3 when I wrote the above post re the yellow dot and offline lists. I haven no messages, no lists, no drafts, nothing. I was out caching using the app. As far as I can tell the app had internet connection the entire time. No offline lists were used. The only thing that happened today was I acquired a new souvenir. I restarted the phone after I got back, but the dreaded yellow dot is still there.

So, why the yellow dot? Anyone have any other ideas?

    Thanks.

Since my last post, we released version 5.6 of the app which included souvenirs. If you've got 5.6 installed then the Android menu will also be badged with the yellow dot when you earn a new souvenir. You can clear it by opening the menu, tapping view profile at the top (which should also have a yellow dot), then viewing your souvenirs. Hope that does the trick for you!

  7. It's NOT available in the current release, even though the release notes from 29th June say it should be. Ergo, this is relevant to the current release.

Sometimes things don't go exactly as planned. Solved coords functionality that matches what's already available on the web and iPhone will be included in a 5.6.x release on Android. Our Android engineers are working on it now and it should be available in the next few weeks.

  8. I'd settle for "sometime this year".

Mostly just curious because I use fresher maps of another style... Anything at all happening with this?

Updating the OSM data is not a forgotten issue. We still intend to do so as soon as possible, but it has proven to be more squirrelly than anticipated as we work with a third party map server solution.

  9. Thanks to all for your replies. I resolved the yellow dot issue, but not sure why it was there. The yellow dot appeared after I had been caching in the brush, offline and then returned to civilization and cell service. There were no drafts on either the app nor on the geo.com site. However, the 4 lists seemed to be out of sync. I was done with the lists, so I deleted them on the GC site and on the app and restarted my phone and the dot is gone. Still not sure exactly what the app was thinking/doing, but its OK now.

Thanks again. Maybe GC app has a bug?

The yellow notification dot is also displayed when you have one or more offline lists that are "out of sync" (i.e. you've saved the list for offline use, but you no longer have the most current data available). If you have any out of sync lists, the number will be shown in parentheses after the Lists item in the nav menu and the list itself will have a refresh icon next to it on the Lists screen. If the yellow notification dot is showing because you have out of sync lists, you can resolve it by refreshing the list's offline data or removing the list's offline data. Hope that helps!

  10. Since my email regarding this was ignored and/or missunderstood I guess Ill try the forums..

When Im out caching I use offline lists and maps in my app, I also save my logs as drafts offline. When I get to wifi I edit these saved drafts and send them to geocaching.com from the app. This has worked fine for as long as I have been using drafts but about a week ago something got messed up and the drafts on geocaching.com does not show in the same order as they where sent. If Ive only logged one or two caches its not a problem, with about 30 caches it just makes me scream cursewords at the screen.. To me this makes drafts useless.

Ive already talked to the app-makers, they haven't changed anything and they say its not something on there end. My email got the replay that Groundspeak couldn't help me with my app even tho this is not about my app....

Are you referring to the new drafts page on geocaching.com? If so, near the top of the page you should see an option for "Sort by". If you click there you can choose to sort the newest drafts first or the oldest first. Perhaps one of those will yield the order you're looking for?

  11. Great Job!

But the color of corrected coördinates for a multi-cache is also blue...

    Maybe change it to orange?

Yes, there seems to be a bug. I just tried changing the coordinates for a Traditional, and it's also showed with a blue icon and puzzle piece.

I haven't gotten the latest update from midday today yet, though, so maybe this has already been fixed.

Somehow I missed that this feature has also been rolled out on the website. I can confirm that I'm still seeing incorrect icons for non-Mystery caches with solved coordinates on the website's map.

For example, the cache in the middle of this screenshot is GC5DNKM, a Traditional (the updated coordinates I used are random).

    solved_icon.PNG

The puzzle piece icon is a different color than any single cache type and is applied to all cache types with corrected/solved coords.

We just deployed an update that should fix the zooming issue. Please let us know if you're still missing caches as you zoom in. Please note that you'll likely have to refresh the web page in order to see the changes.

Refreshed my browser (Firefox) and even closed and reopened the browser, but I'm still seeing an issue with zooming. I also opened Chrome and Edge to test, and I'm seeing the same issue in those browsers as well.

    For example: WSGA GeoArt series

Zoom levels 12-13: smiley icons appear in the lake (GOOD!)

Zoom levels 14-18: smiley icons disappear, not in lake or at corrected location (BAD!).

It's not an issue of having smileys turned off, as I do see smileys for other caches at all of these zoom levels.

NOTE: If I look at the same area from Search Results, then the smileys appear at their original coords at zoom levels 14-18...in Firefox, Chrome, and Edge.

ETA: The zooming issue I'm seeing is different from the issue reported earlier in this thread. I'm not seeing that earlier zooming issue (solved icons disappearing).

It turns out that the first fix for disappearing solved pins caused a new problem with disappearing smiley pins. Our dev team has already completed a fix and is working to get it deployed.

Can you please clarify something? If I update the coords on a Geo-Art the pins all move to the corrected coordinates. After they are found they then move back to the posted? That is what I'm seeing but just want to verify. I like to take a screen shot of the completed geo-art after I've found them all so I just want to make sure that is how they will display. Or, can there be a toggle on, off so I could review my progress on a geo-art?

Unfound caches with solved coords will appear at the solved coords with the solved map pin. Found caches with solved coords will appear at the posted coords with the smiley map pin.

  12. Thank you! I really enjoy this!

But may be there is a bug: if I zoom in, some of the solved puzzle icons disappear from the map. (I'm sorry I don't know how to upload pictures here to show this problem). So I have to decide between seeing the caches at their right places or the paths to walk to them.

Yay!!! However, some strangeness when zooming here also, the new corrected coordinates icons go away when you start to zoom in but not all at the same zoom levels.

It is not workling properly with all types of caches!

All solved Caches are removed from the original place but not all are displayed at the new place. Means a loss of information on the map!

    Two examples:

    GC6BQZF (multi unfound)

    GC56TWV (mystery dnf)

Both are displayed correctly at the small map within the cache description but not at the large map.

    Happy caching, PlanetEarth

Thanks for the reports. We're aware of some unexpected behaviors upon zooming in and out and investigating a fix.

  13. I am on android and just downloaded the update. None of my found caches are showing a smiley. If I click on the cache I have found it shows a smiley in the information. Then if I close out of the app and reopen it the smiley is on the map.

This feature has not yet been released on Android, so you won't see changes there yet.

  14. How about adding the ability to save a Geotour to a List for offline use?

While there's no direct way to do this at the moment, you can still accomplish it pretty quickly as follows:

    * Select a GeoTour

    * Map the GeoTour by tapping the map icon near the top right

    * Tap the (...) menu at top right of the map

    * Select Add all to list

    * Tap the + to create a new list, give it a name, and check the box to save offline

  15. I saw that a new geocache was published, when it came across my phone via the geocaching notifications. I clicked on it and saw it on my map, but as I wasn't ready to go hunting for it, I clicked on another nearby cache. The cache that was just published VANISHED FROM THE MAP. I refreshed my app. I closed my app and relaunched it. I tried turning my phone completely off and back on. I relaunched the app. The new cache does not appear on my geocaching app map. I checked with my friend and it shows up just fine on hers. The only way I can view the cache on my phone's app is if I either go to the original link in the notification or bring it up using its GC code. Once I select another nearby cache, however, it vanishes from my map. I don't know what to do about this. Any suggestions?

Do you have any filters applied that would hide the cache in question?

  16. Stille getting used to the new app, the old one still has my preference but I guess thats a matter of time ;)

What I do miss is when useng the map screen the option to switch to the map rotation of the direction i'm heading for. It now only uses North up.

hope it will be implemented soon.

    KR from the netherlands

You can do this now! Tap the "target" icon at the top left of the map twice. It will turn into a green compass icon indicating that you're in track up mode.
