  1. Let me rephrase what I just wrote... Yes I agree that a cache owner CAN archive for any reason. Though making that reason public in order to advance there agenda and use GC.com as the platform for that personal, political, sexual or religious agenda... would be abuse of the guidelines.
  2. I do see what you are trying to convey... This is directly from the Geocaching guidelines: Thus I would say the guideline was abused... I agree that the owner can archive for ANY reason.... But I do NOT agree that they use GC.com as there platform to sneak in any agenda regardless of merit.
  3. I had mixed feeling about posting this situation. I do not support the behavior portrayed in the archival of these caches or the specific " Day without a Gay" agenda. This I found quite irritating, as if the Geocaching community was "punished" due to this cachers sexual orientation and beliefs. In addition the owner of the caches says "I thought I would eliminate some of my geocaches to call attention to the contributions made by gays in our society". So there is no mistake that he intentionally archived them. This action performed has done nothing but hurt the geocaching community. Removal of perfectly good and enjoyable caches helped in what way? What I see; is a sneaky scheme and abuse of Geocaching.com as a platform for a personal, political, moral, sexual and religious agenda.
  4. Deuce... Well I just don't know. To be honest... That thought didn't cross my mind. I'm sure that is plasable..
  5. Today I received notification from Geocaching.com of multiple caches that were archived. Upon further examination it became quite apparent that this cacher "KG6EAR", deliberately archived his caches to ENDORSE; a personal, political, moral, sexual and religious agenda. The commentary consisted of; "To celebrate a "day with out a gay" I thought I would eliminate some of my geocaches to call attention to the contributions made by gays in our society. I deserve to marry whom I please. I would never wish to control anybody else's ability to marry. It's a sad statement on society that anyone should even have to make statements like this. We clearly haven't completely reached a total state of enlightenment. Miles from it." What are your opinions and thoughts on this situation? A couple of example caches... The Secret of the Secret Garden Event
  6. Okay how about... Busier than a one-legged cat in a sand box! Stickier than a Gummy Worm on a hot dashboard!
  7. Hold on there... Slow down.... I'm not judging anyone. I have yet to get personal. If by my terminology "strange character" you or anyone felt that this was uncalled for. I sir, than apologize. This at the very most was a bad choice of words. So how about an "eccentric character"? That's a little better said. Regardless this was in no way was a feeble attack at ones character or persona. If you note just after the strange character remark I said This was showing creditability FOR the cache owner. "bigdaddygrc" I haven't attacked KG6EAR. I went to the forums and asked questions. In addition I have yet to post anything to the cache page. Sir, you have taken this totally out of context. This is incorrect. The stick was/is resting on the bottom of the pit in the.....well will just call it debris.
  8. If you are reading this for the 1st time please refer to the original thread: Part One A new question arose... Is this an outhouse? You see, the cache owner feels strongly that it is not. This is what he posted on the cache that is now archived. Not that I have any vast knowledge of the industry, but I think the ALL the EVIDENCE as [cache owner stated] actually points in the direction that this is indeed an OUTHOUSE. Fist of all lets look at the picture, what you can clearly see is the remains of the walls and an entrance. Next is the fact that the barrel was lowered into the "pit" at about seat height, why go to all that work? Now lets take a closer look at the barrel, all the paint still remains? How could this be if this is a "burn barrel"? Finally why would you burn anything below ground without a fresh air source? I don't see any evidence that it's a "Burn barrel"
  9. You know Tresco here is something to ponder considering you mentioned the "Crapper Cache"..... Assuming that you are caching near your home. You and I are only about 40 miles from each other. In my immediate area I get traditional caches stuck down in crap (literally), hidden in a used "Wendy's" baked potato container, a dump site that's in a swamp, many debris piles and anywhere that transients live. We don't have many that lead you to a nice or interesting spot. Have a few, but not many. You on the other hand you have some cachers out there, that care about quality. A good example is "Kit Fox". I really appreciate the time and EFFORT he puts forth. If I may suggest; Stickier than a Gummy Worm on a hot dashboard! GC171ZN This is a good example of the "Thrill of the Hunt" No puzzle and the cords are correct. It's even dog friendly! Give it a try and let us know if you enjoyed it.... So next time your on your soapbox, consider what you have available. Many of us are not so lucky.
  10. Don't bring me into this.... My "Mellow" is doing just fine.
  11. Perhaps I'm "Misinformed"? Sorry for the late post, but I couldn't really defend my statements without proof. They say a picture is worth a 1000 words... Well here you go. I especially like the last picture, of the WET wood with the cache attached. I'm also sorry that I just couldn't get a good picture of the waste in the tank, and well I wasn't going to try really hard. Hopefully these will be sufficient for those whom had some doubt.
  12. Yes, walk away is right! The person whom placed this cache is a strange character. Most of his hides have some sort of twist or humor involved.... To be honest I thought this was a play on words. Not this time...LOL Funning aside, this hide (to me) is disappointing. I just don't see the "fun" in this. Cache: GC1CQ1H
  13. Recently I ran across a quite unusual cache placed near an condemned home. This is obviously used by the homeless. Graffiti and garbage everywhere. Just outside of the former dwelling is (for lack of a better term) an outhouse. Construction is a concrete septic tank with a 30 gal drum built in. Even has a toilet seat! Well the cache is attached to a stick, and lowered into the tank. Tank is full of...Well I can only assume what is still in the tank but there is an odor. What would you think? Considering "squatters" are definitely still using this tenement and there is no way of know when the last time this "facility" was used... Is this acceptable? I couldn't find anything against this in the Geocaching guidelines. Thou I would think this qualifies as a health risk at the very least? The word "Disease" comes to mind! What are your thoughts?
  14. KitFox thanks for the pictures Pal! Hope you and the family are having a great time... but from the looks of that one photo you are due to buy someone an ice cream!
  15. Oh I'm sure that you did there cheif.... So what do you think genius??? I certainly hope that these were "fireworks" that had the ability to remove fingers! The ONLY fireworks (and or explosives) that I want to find...or my 3-year old to find is; the most unstable, old, home-built and illegal "firework" available. I prefer if it is in an ammo-can saturated with a flammable liquid!!! KD5XB... I'm glad that you asked. Now you know.... Is there anything else that I can clear up for you?????? Perhaps you found a gun in a cache? I would be happy to walk you through the steps of tracking and moving such an item....
  16. Witch, Yes they are the sig item of "kd6ffu and Wingnut"...
  17. You know "Snoogans" you got me thinking about the "Plausible Deniability" and I can read between the lines on that note... This may be the best route. Along with "killing with kindness".... Yes I see the light! Hopefully I'm allowed a change of heart, my mistake...Boy do I feel terrible! This isn't a case of theft! It is MEMORY-LOSS and MISPLACEMENT problem... You see this poor individual must have forgotten to return the caches. Here is a likely scenario: Grabbed a cache, took it to the car to sign the log, and forgot to replace it. Simple lapse in memory...and due to this condition he cannot remember location or this container goes to this cache. Obviously embarrassed of his condition, he can't bring himself to admit the wrong doing. This is terrible...poor guy. So what I think; as a duty to fellow cachers, all of his placed caches should be picked up and returned to him. Yes returned! Some would like to think that you should go out and take his caches. NO, we are dealing with mentally challenged. Revenge is not applicable... This would be hurting more than helping. In the consideration of most, Geocachers are fine upstanding pillars of the community and obligated to help! There is no doubt that he has now totally forgotten about his own caches, and before they fall into neglect due to his mental state. We must as a team... help. Furthermore I suggest as to not upset the thief.. whoops I meant, forgetful burdon on society individual I think it would be necessary to return said caches via a 60+mph drive-by thrown from a vehicle window. The reason for this is stealth and I think would be a requirement. (You don't want him thinking that there are crazy people throwing stuff at his residence for no particular reason do you?) You see if he finds his caches somewhere in his front yard, he will indeed think this is the last place he put them. No harm no foul. There is only so much you really can do, if they are destroyed on impact...what are you going to do? Just try your best... In addition, if a sudden relapse in memory does occur with the subject. He will understand that this game requires mental health, and considering his sickness... He will realize that his portrayal in the game was not accepted. Thus must quit... I would call this "friendly therapy". If there is a relapse, there are additional levels of therapy that can be perused. Such as, but not limited to... Is his employment... aware of his problem? I'm not sure but if I was his neighbor I would like to know of his condition. Does he have family in the surrounding area? Perhaps they are good ol' big strong Dairy Farmers and need to know, and have a talk with him? ( For those of you reading this, these talks usually happen behind a barn somewhere, and as magical as it sounds...he very well may be cured after 1 discussion. It is amazing how this works. Oh and there is just nothing but barns in Visalia and Tulare) I would tell EVERYONE you know what is going on, as we are a good community and willing to help! Heck, this might even turn into an event! Help this poor guy out! This sounds like a productive means to an end... jeeze I just can't write today...I ment HELP!
  18. I did a little research. The victim was quite easy to find. A quote from the victims profile: "Sadly, 9 of my Visalia caches were stolen (10/18/07), including my entire Cache-A-Bead series of four, so I am changing ALL of my caches over to Premium viewing only. Don't want to be a snob but, I have to protect my babies, if I can... Update: additionally, 5 of my Hanford caches were also stolen. Discovered this on 10/21/07. Have a suspect though..." Pretty simple solution... Go get it back. You know where it is. I virtually agree with the previous posts...thou it could be handled a little different. As "Windrose" suggests; get it out in th open. Perhaps she is a little intimidated to confront this thief alone in his own home. This is understandable, so go with her! Invite a few other cachers over, make it a party. Simply demand her property to be returned. If he refuses just explain that the local law enforcement will be called due to the coins. Obviously you have the tracking numbers, that will help explain ownership. The longer this goes the likelihood that the said property be returned decreases. The possibility that the thief is reading my post is also evident. If that is indeed the case her items are gone... Regardless, I DO suggest confronting this THIEF! Let him know where he stands in the Geo community. Rattle his cage, shake things up a bit. I tend to believe that this isn't the attention he wanted. This is my personal opinion... (we all know what that's worth...) Sitting with idle hands in the hope that he won't continue... is plain asinine. The theory that "Oh just leave the little sicko alone and he will quit" "kill them with kindness" may work for some. What it really boils down to is: ignore the thief and he might decide to stop. That's great...but he still got away with STEALING YOUR STUFF! I don't see that as a winning result. What message does this give to the thief's out there? " Oh we wont do anything (GS can't do anything) so we will just ignore and let you get away with it"...Confrontation is bad, and not PC. Common people. I realize that this is the nature of the game and it unfortunately will continue...but you actually have someone. Now is time to do something.
  19. I'm Thankful for my better half Chrissy...
  20. What cache are you talking about? I looked in your profile and see the two that you found yesterday. Neither are micros nor any problems that you speak of... Was your log deleted?
  21. Humm.... So what has been done to cull the behavior of "Gen Santa Ana 2" ? It's is obvious that the powers that be are indeed monitor this thread, as logs have been "purged" after the fact. What is the protocol? Is there a protocol to remove, banish, or punish a user?
  22. "bogleman" and "JHWK" You have mail....
