  1. It took me about 20 caches before I felt confident that I could find anything. The technology still amazes me. Maybe I'm just simple. hehe knock out 20 caches and you will be hooked.
  2. I want Holographic 3D projection about 6 inches above the Unit that includes Terrain Projection with Waypoints and key features. Also the Unit could show the world and the satellites you are tracking circling the globe. THAT WOULD BE COOL........also make it around $150-200. hehe
  3. Thanks for the replies. Thanks Embra for the link to the FAQ/ hidden menu's page. Thats great. Why do I want to turn WAAS off? I suppose just because. Just becasue my buddy can with his garmin so I wanted to know how. No big deal. Just one of those mysterious questions you sit around the campfire wondering about.
  4. How do I turn off WAAS in my Magellan Gold?....thx............ also I live in Utah, is WAAS even benefiting me?
  5. NiMH rechargables are designed to give Max power output for a period of time and then die very quickly after charge is gone. Alkaline batteries start high on output and slowly loose their power. For example, if you put NiMH batteries in a flashlight and turned it on the light would be very bright for 5 hours then get dim in 10 minutes and go out. An alkaline would be bright at first then slowly get more dim as time goes on until at the 5 hour mark be dead. A digital Camera requires high output all the time thus it uses the NiMH rechargables very well. The GPS does not have the power drain a Camera does so the Alkaline works fine.....although I do use NiMH rechargables in my GPS and my 2200's work better and last longer than the 1800's I have.
  6. boilerbluto, If you are able to get some at a discount/refurbished etc let me know because I have a scout troop that could use some too........!
  7. Magellan has been good to me. Good choice to send to Magellan. I have a few of the goodies they sent back.
  8. I currently own a Sportrak pro and a Meridian Gold. I am thinking about selling the Sprotrak Pro and buying an etrex Vista so I would have a Meridian Gold and a Garmin Vista. The only thing holding me back is what is going to be better about the Vista? How much map can you fit into a Vista? I can fit the entire state of Utah from Magellans MapsendTopo into the Sportrak Pro's Memory, will the Vista do the same? Also for automobile traveling, does the Display on the vista, is it visable? or too small? Also I am going to have to purchase a whole new set of Topo maps to get the same detail I get with the Magellan Mapsend Topo? Thanks.
  9. Yea, loading map to active screen. My gold works the same way.
  10. I love my Mapsend Toop. There are dirt roads on it that are almost non-existent. Saved me several times when in a pinch. I love the Mapsend Topo. But am thinking about buying the Direct Route.
  11. was a foot of snow on the ground, parked the truck, trudged to the cache, came back to the car to have a Highway Patrol ask us what we were doing. i showed her the cache sheet, and gps and she said that she was checking the truck for dead or hurt people/bodies. I guess the place I stopped was not uncommon to have bad people meet and do deals there. I told her thanks for keeping an eye on the car while I was gone. **schewwww**
  12. Are you still in the market....to trade?????
  13. Just post a bunch of Virtual cache's. Like a Tree, Large Rock with a view, or a Historical site etc. Then let the park people start removing the virtual cache's. Cut down a tree here. . .etc, . . . get the picture?
  14. Does anyone have a story or two about their GPS taking a beating and keep on ticking?
  15. Well, I reloaded the 4.03 software, initialized it, then reuploaded my maps, went to a known waypoint near my place that I had been dead on before, and everything was dead on. Looks like a software glitch. Hmmmm.
  16. Brother has a Meridian. I have a SporTrak Pro. We were both walking next to each other to a cache. They were reading both within 4-6 feet of each other as far as distance to the cache. All of a sudden, mine jumped 400-500 feet and held. His led us straight to the cache and mine was 300-400 feet off of the cache. We tested another cache I had been to before and his was right on and mine was off 100+ feet. Everything is the same, WGS84 etc. I Initialized it and that did not help either. Any ideas or suggestions? Should I reaload the 4.03 software update? Hmmmmmmmmmm?
  17. I just upgraded My Magellan software for free. Did not cost me anything. What are you talking about?
  18. . . .. .also, I got a $50 rebate when I bought the SporTrak and Mapsend Topo Software!!! I bought the SporTrak and Mapsend Topo software from Offroute.com. (Geocaching sponsored company)
  19. From Experience, my SporTrak has been dead on in canyons, on mountain sides, on the Highway etc. In the heavy trees, I have had good reception too. Been very happy with the Magellan MapSend Topo and the unimproved roads it gives are excellent. No complaints from me. My friend has a Garmin and the menuing in the SporTrak just seems more user friendly, especially with the 4.01 software update.
  20. Can you delete and write over the SporTrak Pro's basemap? What I mean is there is a total of 32 megs of Ram. 10 megs used for Basemap and 22 for downloadable maps. Can I delete the 10 meg basemap and use the 10 megs of memory for more downloadable maps?? Thanks.
  21. I thought this was more common knowledge. . . Regarding my posting earlier today as to whether or not the US Military has encrypted GPS signals yet. . . It seems that the replies I got back were from people who don't know who owns and controls those little things floating around in space. The US military's satelite GPS system can send encrypted or non encrypted signals. The soldiers hand held GPS has the software to decrypt. . . our Civilian GPS's do not. When the military tells the satelites to go "encrypted," our Civilian GPS's are not going to be as accurate, but the Military's will be. Most of us will not be able to tell and for all practical purposes won't care. But if you are GEO Caching and the US is fighting a war, and your readings are off 100 feet or so from the geocaching coordinates, now you know why. There has to be someone out there in goecaching land who already knows this!
