  1. Regarding your Chat Room and your moderator, Arthur & Trillian, I'll leave that subject to those who know what's been said and done there. Not you, your coin sales, or even your coin designs. It's all about your coin pricing and what you're doing with "AE's". Coin pricing was recently (and rightfully) called into question on this forum. So I took a look around the various vendors. Hogwild, Oakcoins, CoinsAndPins, Dorkfish, Tsun, Crake, Castle Man, The Geocoin Store, Landsharkz, The Caching Place, etc...sell all of their editions for the same price. Most of them are artists, yet I don't see "AE's" on their sites at all. I only found you and SoCal charging more for "LE" or "AE" versions. In fact, looking through your webstore and finding "AE" coins consistently priced for $19.99 and above is a bit disconcerting. Collectors are obviously concerned with any rise in geocoin pricing, and most would say that pricing that high is not at all healthy to the future of collecting geocoins. If you're starting a trend, you're going to price yourself right out of the market. People are smart enough to know that the average coin costs about $5 to mint. You selling a coin that was as mass produced as your Tranquility coins for $65.99 is...what it is. That's my opinion. Sorry if you took it personal, but you're a business now. Why is this any of your business? If you don't want to buy or sell AE editions..then don't. Problem solved.
  2. That's exactly what will turn teens off about this hobby...start placing all kinds of restrictions and limitations when none are needed. I think that responsibility should lie with the parents....not Groundspeak or this forum.
  3. I agree...Besides, don't any of you have a message delete option in your email accounts?
  4. It seems maybe he's apologized to the people he emailed about coins. He doesn't owe me an apology for anything.
  5. At first this seemed like a good idea, but then I do worry that labeling minors in these forums would give any creep or low-life access to a minor. I shudder to think that, but these forums can be viewed and perused without any verification or identity. (This maybe just my paranoia). I think it would do more good than a few incidents of bad that could come from it. The mods do a good job at acting fast if something happens. As it is now there are known minors here that can be found with a little looking. Thankfully there hasn't been a situation, but I am sure if one arises it would be dealt with quickly. "The few incidents of bad" that could come from pointing out minors online to potential perverts could be horrible. I can look and see the area that you live, where you cache, pictures in your galleries, etc. Someone with bad intentions can do that too.
  6. I agree with Avroair on this one. Plus, I don't think any site has a right to do that. That's information that anyone will tell you shouldn't be put online.
  7. They didn't make excuses for him. And they're dealing with it also. I think that was the idea of their post. To let everyone know they were aware of it and took steps to deal with it.
  8. Hmmm..and I was under the assumption this was a family hobby. Hmmm...I guess it'd be better for kids to hang out at malls...street corners..things of that sort.
  9. I've heard all about it. Again..this is a young boy. To drag him and his parents over the coals for this is truly mean-spirited.
  10. He's a young boy, for crying out loud. I suppose none of your kids are ever impatient. That's great for you....because mine and their friends are too, at times. Act like adults and accept an apology. They could have just ignored it like a lot of parents would do nowadays.
  11. Can't you people just accept a parents apology and move on ???
  12. No. Mystery coins are done by those who wish not to be in the limelight and to do something special for the community. Other coins are done by people who are known and if they put such stipulations on their coins it is to feed their ego more than anything. Your opinion! Maybe they'd rather not see someone get fleeced royally on ebay for a coin which should never find it's way there in the first place. No one's forcing anyone to overpay for a coin on eBay. Bidders will pay what the coin is worth to THEM. Has it ever occurred to you that some people would rather not see their coins sold at all? That would be the reason they make the stipulations which are in place to keep the coins off ebay (or sold at all for that matter). They don't want someone to profit off their idea (sorta like the writer's strike going on right now...sorta). Whenever you put an idea or thought out in public you run the risk of someone making a profit from it. That's just the way it is. But funny enough, I see a lot of the people complaining about their coins being sold on eBay selling other peoples coins there. Whether the coins were originally sold or gifted..it's still making a profit off someone elses work. If I were that stressed about it..I'd rethink making coins. It's not worth it then.
  13. Why worry about it in the first place? Frankly, if I put out a coin and it ended up on eBay and sold for quite a bit, I'd be honored. Me too..and like I said..if it helped someone through a rough spot, I'd be proud of that.
  14. No. Mystery coins are done by those who wish not to be in the limelight and to do something special for the community. 15. I agree. The ones that people have been thoughtful and given to me mean a lot to me and I wouldn't part with them.
  16. I guess it depends on what your definition of "given freely" and "gifted" are. Some of us differ on those meanings also. Something with strings attached is not given freely...nor does a gift have strings attached. That's my opinion.
  17. Never. Any coin that I buy or trade for is mine 100% and any agreement that would try to alter that arrangement is a coin I do not want at all. I care less how collectible such coins can be, strings-attached coins are not worth my time. Mystery coins, I believe, are owned by the finders and are special cases. In those cases, the wishes of the mystery coin person are to be respected because they gave freely of their coins. I agree 100% about the mystery coins And I also would never trade for a stringer.
  18. No one will ever convince me that any geocoin in the world is worth ruining someones reputation and causing them embarassment over, agreement or no agreement.
  19. I enjoyed your opinion and think you have every right to express it.
  20. Do you? Or do you just own the tracking? I believe this is what some people are struggling with. You just own the tracking...perhaps the words that are on a web page...but you do not own the coin. More than just words. You can control logging, etc, etc, etc. It's the coin holder that has to image being the owner. Just like a coin thief does. (not to imply the holder is a thief, just that both are simply in possession of the coin.) Exactly BD, I can put my picture in the coin page, I can delete any logs, I can place the coin virtually anywhere I wish. You can't share that coin with anyone because it's not in your name and you'd get tired of explaining every time. I can even lock it down or put big letters saying the coin was stolen or what not. You may hold the coin, but I hold the title! (I, you & your are used...) Yes, ethics are important. I agree if a trade agreement that is clear and fully understood has been made, it should be honored.
  21. I haven't traded too often yet but I think if I tried for some of the "rare" coins the cost would be just as high...in coins maybe but none the less the cost is there. Some coins seem to go for outrageous prices on ebay I will agree but I'm assuming some of the coins are very difficult to get. If it weren't for ebay, I wouldn't be able to participate in the secret missions without embarrassing myself. I got some nice coins from trades and dealers but also from ebay for those harder to get, sold out coins. Now I'm able to enjoy some of the fun things that everyone else has been able to do in these forums. This is true. And you also have to keep in mind that there are a lot of people from this very forum who sell coins on eBay. It's a way for people to acquire coins that they might not otherwise have access to. There are new cachers born everyday and they want to be able to be a part of the community also.
  22. If you're doing it for the love of the game I think that's great. So what's all the flak about then? Does a person selling one of these coins really ruin the originators love of the game?
  23. What's the point of making 250 or more coins if you don't want at least part of those going to people either to travel or have in their collections? And if you traded all of them, you must have gotten trades back.
