  1. catsnfish has made their prize choice and I think there's been plenty of opportunity for all to offer congratulations. Thank you everyone for sharing and for giving me some ideas on how to "up" the creativity factor for my logs! Moderators: please close this thread...thank you!
  2. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to review your logs and find one to share with me and the geocaching/coining community! This was a difficult choice because of the sheer breadth of logs featured here: creative, funny, direct, and personal. In the end, the winner reminds us that sometimes we are representing not just geocachers but the larger community of people. Congratulations, catsnfish! At the end of the day, it's really not just about the numbers and indeed about much, much more than making the find. Honorable mentions go to drneal, for his clever entry, and to The Skylark Four, because I think we've all felt that way. catsnfish - Please send me your mailing address along with your choice of which Celtic Sun coin you'd like as your prize. Again, sincerest thanks to everyone for taking the time to participate AND for your efforts in writing logs that surely made the cache owner smile. I know I did!
  3. I am seeking the "Sunshine" version of the Sunshine. Freedom. Flower. geocoins. Does anyone have an extra for trade?
  4. Adoption requests received AND adoption notices sent! I will try to place these coins in caches THIS WEEK, so please make sure you provide complete information ON THE COIN'S PAGE as to where you'd like to to go. (NOTE: You must complete the adoption before you can edit your coin's page) 1. dufzor - adoption complete 2. munozfamily2004 - adoption request sent 6 March 2011 3. wuster - adoption request sent 6 March 2011 4. town$ca$h - adoption request sent 6 March 2011 5. 5. I am loving this cointest! The entries have been fun for everyone, and I'd like to thank all of the participants for posting their logs here, especially drneal. I figured this cointest would be most difficult for those of you who have been caching for a while and who obviously have wanted to document some of your caching adventures. However, I like that those of you who are new to the sport are also entering and bringing that fresh vision with you in your logs...makes me remember when I was first getting started and surprises were plenty! Two more days to consider your logs, old and new, and submit an entry. I'm looking forward to reading whatever else comes my way and to announce the winner shortly! Thank you to everyone who has entered so far and made this a fun thread.
  6. I'm very happy for the two racers that I received to get started in the race! I know I got them off to a relatively slow start, and no doubt a few thoughts of annoyance were sent my way. However, now they are both in the top ten and I hope this momentum will continue for them. Watch out for rockotter's and drneal's racers! As for my racer...well...I think it's doing a great job of holding down the cache it's in.
  7. Trade made! Thank you so much! Now to see what I "need" next...
  8. Go, Peacock racer, GO! Thanks for updating the standings. I check on my racers every now and again, although it's been fairly slow for my racers. BTW, I still have one of five racers from PGRIV going!
  9. Recent requests for coins have been received! I've added everyone's name to the list and will send adoption requests later on this evening. For those of you who have been around a while, I hope you enjoy watching your coin travel. For those of you who are new to geocaching AND who have picked up trackables in your first few caches, I hope you will follow the guidelines and keep them moving. It may bring good karma to you and your travelling geocoin! Make sure you place your hometown in your geocaching.com profile, so I can set your coin's mission to travel to you. 1. dufzor 2. munozfamily2004 3. wuster 4. town$ca$h 5. Nived87 6. 11. Show me your logs! I haven't held a cointest in a while, and I thought I would start March off in a generous mode. I've been reading a lot in the forums lately about all facets of geocaching. One topic of discussion that I really enjoy is what makes a good log? With the increasing use of smartphone apps, it seems more and more people can get away with logs that say simply: "Logged from my ____insert phone here____." The beauty of the "what makes a good log" question is that it is SO subjective! "Good log" means different things to different people. Some folks like length, some folks like humor, some like photos, ... and the list goes on and on. In fact, we might be able to get a better concensus on what makes a bad log, but I'm trying to maintain a positive outlook in 2011. Soooooo.....let's make a cointest! To enter: Give me an example of your BEST log that you've written on geocaching.com Rules for acceptable logs: 1. The log must have been written on or before 28 February 2011. (Honor system here, folks) 2. The log must be for a geocache, and can be EITHER a "Found It," a "Didn't Find It," or a "Writes Note." Rules for Entries: 1. One entry per person, so choose wisely. The winner will be chosen by me and will choose their own prize: ONE of the following unactivated and trackable coins: You can email your log to me through my geocaching.com profile OR you may also post the link to your log here in the forums: the choice is yours. To avoid any confusion, please specify your geocaching nickname, the geocache number, the geocache name, the date which your log occurred, and if there are any supporting photos that you want considered with your log. NOTE: photos are NOT required for a good log and will not necessarily give you "brownie points" with the judge. Contest begins RIGHT NOW! Submissions will be accepted until MIDNIGHT, my time, 7 March 2011. I'll announce the winner on Tuesday morning, 8 March 2011. I think I've covered all the details, but if I've left something out OR you have questions, please let me know via email or here in the forums. Show me your logs!
  12. Congratulations, Maine family, and kudos to you for turning the mission around so quickly! Photos definitely help those of us further down the list get excited, as well as give us a better idea for how to keep this fun for the next recipient. I'd say the first stop is a big success!
  13. DONE! dufzor is the lucky recipient of the first of my 20 geocoins up for adoption! The adoption request has been sent, and once I receive confirmation about its mission, I will place it in a cache. 1. dufzor 2. 3. 4. | | | | V 20.
  14. This is an excellent question! As far as I can tell, the TB###### number that you get is only good to find the geocoin's page on geocaching.com. I use it sometimes in these forums when I want to let people know about a coin's travels, encounters, photos, etc. If the person wants to log a coin into/out of a geocache, discover it, grab it, or whatever, they need the number on the coin itself, and THIS is the tracking number. You are correct to anticipate some confusion on the part of geocachers, particularly if they've never encountered a geocoin before. To minimize confusion, I always place a piece of paper with the coin the lists the tracking number, like this: I've omitted the tracking number on the photo, but it IS written on the paper for those who find it. Of course, this is only good if the geocachers want to read the information. However, I think it is better than not providing any information at all. Good luck and safe travels to your coin!
  15. Hi, Gliderjohn! I'm not sure the map can expand. The best way (in my experience) to look for coins or other trackables in geocaches is to run a pocket query. You can specify that only caches with coins/TBs inside are listed. Sadly, the pockey query is based on information on the website, which is often incorrect because of logging inaccuracies. On the flip side, I've visited geocaches and located trackables that weren't yet listed, usually because the person who left them hadn't had a chance to log them. Hope this is helpful! Enjoy your hike, and if you do locate geocoins that are OWNED, don't forget to move them along! The owners appreciate it, and it makes for good karma for you.
  16. there is one on the E-place Thanks for thinking of me, but that place is dead to me. Trades make me feel warm and fuzzy inside, and I'd prefer to hold out for the trade. Even if it means I never get to hold it.
  17. Still seeking these! Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
  18. It "should" but "doesn't", sales sort of fell through Here is what I was thinking: Bummer - it was a great icon, and it IS a great coin! Just a suggestion: you may want to consider changing the information on the website, which still says "Custom Icon: Yes"
  19. I just activated one of my copper Tribal Sun geocoins and am getting it ready to send out into the world. When I activated the coin, a generic coin icon appeared. I'm not necessarily an icon freak, but I could've sworn that there was some dialogue about this, and when I found this thread again it appears that it SHOULD have a unique icon. Any information about this?
  20. It's time for me to get some spring cleaning accomplished, so I have another 20 coins available for the "pay it forward" adoption. I would prefer to adopt these coins over to someone who has NOT participated in this thread already, and who have few or no trackables already. If you want specifics on how this works, please see Tennessee Jed's post #1 at the very beginning of this thread. 1. 2. 3. 4. | | | V 20.
  21. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOps! My bad. You are spot-on, Little Miss Muffet! I can start my coin for you here, if you like? Thank you so much, I'm very excited! I wrote you a message through geocaching.com. Mamoreb adopted this coin today TB38CYY I'm excited to see if it ever makes it to its new home. Thank you for starting this thread 14 pages ago. I have received a coin and sent a coin out thru it.
  22. I saw that the coin scificollector adopted to you (TB3GDHN) in this thread actually made it to you guys - congratulations! This would be fun to post in the "Geocoin arrived where it wanted to go" thread, HERE. Have you had a chance to "pay it forward?" Ive got this one... This coin is especially true for young girls. My twins absolutely love this coin and I figured it was time to pass this forward to someone else. Enjoy the coin. Adoption sent on 7/30/10 Thank you scificollector! You have made our day! I will pay it forward probably in Nov. (the NC Fall Fling is near our house this year.) I'm hoping to collect some goodies there.
  23. Doc, See my post earlier in this thread - #15! I suggested it in 2009, so it's about time someone revamped it!
  24. This coin - TB222WV - was part of the "Pay It Forward" adoption mission, and it arrived to it's new owner in just over three months! Another success story for geocoins out in the wild. Makes me want to release a few more... It's been a while since this thread made it to the front page. Are there any other success stories from other cachers?
  25. Thank u for the welcome back yes it is us the merchlinskys we are getting back in to the swing of things but as every one knows it can time time and thanks for the adopt I stumbled across this today and thought I would post it here as proof that some geocoins DO fulfill their missions, thanks to conscientious geocachers! I adopted a geocoin (TB222WV) to Team_Merchlinsky last year and it arrived close to them in just over THREE months. Really fantastic, even for any trackable. I'm sure they'll "pay it forward" when their able, but I thought anyone else who has received a coin in this thread would appreciate this. Happy caching, everyone!
