  1. Still have some of the Georgia for trade. Also have one of each of 888 from Alabama, Texas, Mississippi, Idaho, New Jersey, Portugal, Italy and Oak Coins for trade as I am not keeping the full set. Email sent!
  2. I recently saw an oldie but a goodie: GeocoinFest 2007 - Temecula, CA. Me likey! Any chance anyone has extra(s) they might consider trading? I have my trade list attached to one of my geocoins...thanks in advance for checking!
  3. Memphis, TN It has a large airport for people AND for coins, as FEDEX is there. Also, it is only 1-2 hrs drive to Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, and Mississippi. Lots of affordable hotels in the area and near the airport as well. Area attractions other than coins and caching include Graceland and Beale Street. I posted this on the other thread, but not sure anyone got to see it...!
  4. Memphis, TN It's got a big airport, plenty of hotels, good caching, and Graceland.
  5. "call today to do tomorrow" Names/numbers of friends to contact to make weekend plans, such as camping, caching, etc.
  6. Does anyone have any national park geocoins available for trade? I have only been collecting for a few months now but do have some coins for trade. I'm hoping the national park coins are not as coveted as some of the others must be, as therefore these might be more attainable coins to seek for a newbie?
  7. If anyone needs an example, I can provide one from today, 24 July! My geocoin, TB235FN, was placed and removed from the same cache today, GC129KY. I received ONLY the notification that it had been removed from this cache. I did received the email stating it had been dropped at all. Whatever the issue is, I feel it is only affecting notices of TB drops, not retrievals. I have not had anyone write notes or do anything else with my trackables, so I can't speak to problems with other types of notices. Also, this has been going on for at least 3-4 days. Can someone look into this? (pretty please)
  8. I noticed the same thing, but with a couple of my geocoins. I posted the following in another forum without response, so I'm happy to add it here since I now know I am not going crazy! >Has anyone noticed activity on their travellers but NOT received an email notification? > >I had movement on two of my geocoins: one was placed in New Jersey and the other was placed in Germany, and both placements took place on 20 July. > >I did receive an email today, letting my know that another coin was retrieved from a cache today. > >Was some sort of maintenance going on with gc.com on the 20th that would have prevented email notifications (or at least delayed them)? > >Just curious...
  10. This was a humbling set of questions for me, but strangely fun as well! As a biologist, I haven't visited history since undergrad (more than 10 years ago now), but I did visit the Admiral Nimitz Museum in Fredricksburg, TX this past March and so did recognize one answer right away. Thanks for making me use my brain in a different way to acquire coins! Email sent!
  11. 1. Participating - Yes, as of 7 July 2. Received name - Yes, on 11 July 3. Mission sent - Tomorrow morning! (18 July) 4. Birthday received
  12. This has been a great week all around! Got my first ever "First to Find" on one (GC1CFBW) of a new set of caches owned by Arkansas State Parks, and had a precious gift waiting for me as well: an Earth Turtle 2008! Thank you, Tsun, for helping make this a happy week!
  13. Don't forget the "other" Grand Canyon: Pine Breek Gorge in Pennsylvania. A bit further north than I-80, but well-worth the extra mileage. I visited here with my family when we lived in upstate New York - what a hike from the north end! Happy trails...
  14. Is the coin in photo 2, bottom row, far right, featuring an Ivory-billed Woodpecker a personal coin? My graduate work is in Arkansas near where that bird was reportedly seen after being presumed extinct for more than 60 years. Where might one get/trade for/purchase that particular coin...?
  15. Earth Turtle, please. My young geocoin heart desires an Earth Turtle. I am 0 for 2 on the 2008 offerings due to research/university obligations, and I have admired that particular coin since being "bitten" by the geocoin bug earlier this year. I have a few coins from my relatively new (and therefore, meager!) stash, and could offer trades or buy outright if anyone prefers. I am also watching the "Trades" discussion in an effort to satisfy my geocoin heart!
  16. Fun! I can finally get to know some people here. My answers are below, and nice to meet you! 1. Erin (caching name: Penny and Kona); Jonesboro, Arkansas; 32; Graduate Student 2. "Dear Cacher..." 3. Five, although I am hoping some will spontaneously appear in the mailbox this week! 4. I is in a cache here in Arkansas, my sister has #2 and is supposed to place it in Vermon, and 3-5 are waiting to be drilled and have coin helpers attached (those threads about coin keepers are so sad). 5. No 6. Green 7. Pizza (New York style!) 8. Lately, I have been enjoying Ben Harper, Angelique Kidjo, and Imogene Heap 9. Birding, hiking and camping 10. Learn something new (or challenge yourself) every day.
  17. Hello! If anyone would like to release a coin in either Arkansas or Tennessee in the U.S., I can help with that. I also make it a point to write descriptive logs and take photos of the coin and the view where it is placed. Please add me to the list (thanks for maintaining this!) or send me an email. Best, PaK
  18. Hi, keewee and fellow "lurkers"! My name is Erin, but go by "Penny and Kona" in the forums and on geocaching.com after my two dogs. I am a 4th-year PhD Candidate (I study birds and should finish up by June 2009!) and got into geocaching because I really love using my GPS and GIS in my research. Having another reason to take the GPS out is absolutely fantastic! I think this is my second post, but I have been around for a while. I have used the forums quite a bit to find out information about geocoins and travel bugs, how to log them and appropriate guidelines for helping them on their missions/travels. The scientist in me believes in extensive research before making a statement, which probably explains why this is only my second post. I got into geocoins as a gift idea for my husband. I am releasing a coin every month this year as a Christmas gift for him. So at the moment I own five coins in my profile (~4 more on the way), and one travel bug for me! I don't think I will stop at 12 geocoins though, as they are so pretty and I like the idea of someday having a collection that I am encouraged to display. (My husband prefers that I do NOT display my insect collection openly in the house, but perhaps he wouldn't mind coins...) Here is my question about geocoins: Where exactly are they made? Someone mentioned in the forums that all geocoins come from China, although they did not specify if they were talking about the materials or the actual machines that make them or what. Just a curiosity. Thanks, keewee, for the opportunity to post to the forums without much dread of saying/asking something wrong!
  19. If you ever get over by Jonesboro there is a park, which I think was south of Jonesboro that has a bunch of nice caches in it I can't remember the name of the park, but counting the micros I think there were over a dozen caches there. We stopped on our way home from Helena, AR It is called Craighead Forest Park and is one of my favorite spots in town! A great place for caching, birding, enjoying a good day without rain (if we have one of those anytime soon)...
