I messed up a couple of dates because of the American date format, the 4/11/07 became April the 11th 2007. After seeing this thread I gave it a shot. No logs were deleted and everything is now showing the correct date.

Too far away to help, however, I have tried caching with a small group of my Scouts (Navigator badge part D). So far a couple of them (those who had a GPS at home) have started to cache on their own. I am running an Expedition this weekend where I will be introducing caching to 4 more Scouts. I have also bought a cheap second hand GPS for the Troop so it could be loaned out if someone wants to try it with their parents before buying their own GPS. Good luck with your event. I am sure that most of them will enjoy something different.

There are plenty of caches in Edinburgh. There are even some in the University Campus which take you on a short tour of the grounds.

The Garmin GPS 12 is my weapon of choice. It may be old and rubbish under trees but it still does the job. 118 (and counting) finds with it so far.

I am on my second set of poles. I tend to only use them either on rough terrain or when going down a moderately steep hill. Going uphill I find them to be less useful but it is always better to have more contact points with the ground in case one of your feet slide away from you. The reason its my second set is that my first set were damaged whilst on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition. I am glad that I had them as I feel that without them I would have had a nastly fall and possibly worse. Since then I take the poles with me whenever I feel that I will be travelling over rough or steep terrain. However, whilst caching I have used them only on one occasion.
