  1. Now that's quite a dataset! Looking through this I realize I have found all 28 cached that you have pictured here. And my own cache is the 13th oldest in the county. Thanks for all the info!
  2. Thanks for this. I tried sorting by placed date before but apparently that's a premium member feature? Anyway, I bookmarked your link for future reference.
  3. I am looking for the same thing, albeit for Michigan. And specifically for Oakland County. I am watching a challenge cache that requires cachers to have found at least 5 of the 7 oldest caches in the county. Unfortunately some of these vintage caches get archived and the next oldest gets added to the list. So now I am wondering what the next oldest caches would be. And while I'm here...is there a way to search caches by a state? I recall there used to be a way to do this but I don't recall how. Or maybe that function has disappeared? Specifically, I'm trying to find the oldest active caches in Michigan.
  4. Thank you for this. I haven't needed to post a NM log in a while but found a cache today that needed it. There used to be a NM option in the drop down menu but that seems to have gone away. Now when you log a NM, there are 2 entries to the cache page. One is a generic "This geocacher reported there is a problem with this cache." The second is a log where you explain why it needs maintenance.
  5. Thank you for this. I always wondered what the parameters were to be a Charter Member. I thought maybe it was limited to the first 100 or 1000 or whatever. I started geocaching in Nov 2002 but never knew about Charter or Premium Membership.
  6. Here's another one that has been locked. It was a virtual that lasted only from Aug 2001-Nov 2001. It was archived but shows locked at the top of the cache page. Ten years later, people started logging it again although it hasn't been logged since 2013. https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC165F_where-the-dead-people-live?guid=5a9909d3-672e-4f0e-901e-7b4349315675
  7. So I revisited a cache today that I had found 6 years ago. Since then, it has been moved which I thought qualifies it as a new cache. When was this changed? BTW, I didn't find the cache today but I noticed on the log drop-down menu there is no longer a Found It option on previously found caches.
  8. Advanced filtering is a Premium feature, which I don't have. However, I did find an alternative. Go here (https://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx) and you can sort by Postal Code, Coordinates, State/Country, Keyword, Username or GC Code. Much easier!
  9. Ok, so I actually tried doing this but could not get any results. In the search box, I typed in Michigan (where I live) and a list of 34071 caches come up, with the closest to me being first. I tried clicking on the "Placed On" header but the list doesn't change at all. Clicking on other headers gives me the same result, with the exception of Distance where there is an arrow. I know there used to be a way to search by state and show placed on dates but that search function doesn't seem to be on GC any more.
  10. I think a good use of the last visit date is to see if a cacher is still active. I have seen enough caches that have been neglected and in need of maintenance but the cache owner hasn't visited in over a year...or two...or three. Even the last log date is deceptive. For example, I recently looked for a cache and had to log a DNF and mentioned that the CO hadn't logged on in over 1.5 years. Then just days later, the cache owner posted a maintenance log but his profile shows his last visit as Jan 24, 2017. Perhaps a glitch in the system?
  11. OK, I just checked and it was there. In the past when I logged a souvenir related cache (new state, etc.) I would get an instant pop-up notification. I didn't see it this time. Carry on!
  12. So...I found and logged a cache (GC6FPP8) on August 20 but did not receive the souvenir. Any way to fix this?
  13. I didn't see this one on the list...I am using a Nokia Lumia 635 using Windows Phone 8.1 software. I used the GeoWigo app available in the Microsoft app store. I have done my first two Wherigo caches and have had no problems.
  14. Thank you so much for doing an app for this type of cache! Us WP users had been left in the dark for so long. It seemed to me that this type of cache was excluding people who didn't have the proper unit or smartphone, very elitist if you ask me. I just did my first Wherigo today and it was so easy! I had downloaded the cartridge* to my OneDrive and went to the nearby park that has a Wherigo. When I got to the park I was dismayed that the locations all said 9000+ km away! Fortunately, the GPS kicked in and I found all 4 locations easily enough and got to the final. Is there a way to change from km/m to yards/feet? *Personally, I don't like the name cartridge as it reminds me of a physical attachment to your GPS. Maybe they could have called it a GameFile.
  15. It all depends on where exactly you want to place a cache. Some communities and park systems(State of Michigan, Metroparks, etc) require that you have a permit in place and/or get permission. After all, it is their property. One city in particular bans all geocaches on city property! Some communities/park systems don't have a set of guidelines so it's a free-for-all as far as the caches go. It all boils down to getting permission and being wise about your placement of caches. Good luck!
  16. This new one in from Michigan, I haven't given it much thought until tonight. I'm probably making it harder than it really is. Anyone care to give it a go? http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d6-712f37f30213
  17. I just inherited a German Shepherd named Tryson. I'm hoping to take him out tomorrow to try some caching and hiking. He's almost 2 years old and weighs about 120 lbs. I am just coming to the realization how fast and strong he is! I have a feeling he'll be a good geo-dog as he seems quite inquisitive (nosy).
