I have a friend wanting to know if there is a site on line by using his home address to get his home place coordinates, His house has been buit in the last 7 years ? I was thinking google earth but didnt know those steps

If not you will need to change the data fields and select distance to destination as one of the data fields. One of you great people sent me the instruction for getting the distance to destination, which wasnt there b4 but is now, if I ever learn all the tricks of a menu, and I thought my golf swing was complicated

The short answer is NO. The long answer is that unless you want to pay thousands or hundres of thousands of dollars for survey type GPSr units then you can expect that you will never get the exact spot unless by luck. The GPS units that are available to the general public are quite cheap and are not as accurate as the very expensive survey units. It will lead you pretty close to the general area depending on the day, and the accuracy you have, ie: if you had 5mtrs when you placed the cache or fish attractor, then have 5mtrs on the day you go back, you still have the potential to be 10 mtrs away from the placed item. We put out fish attractors, these are same size of 2 normal christmas tress in volume, 30 feet down. now I would like to know if in as perfect a situtation as possible overhead clear, high sky all is good no interference, How close can I expect to get back to this spot returning to the coordinates, using the same gps I obtained the coordinates with as I sunk the tree's. thanks

thanks I copied a portion of it and will paste here because its the info I was looking for, this questioned wasnt intended to dispute a cache location, but i ran out of light on a hunt and wondered about how close I had gotten: this is part of the formula the article u refered mentioned A single number difference in the latitude coordinate is equivalent to approximately 5 feet. A single number difference in the longitude coordinate is equivalent to approximately 6 feet. If the latitude coordinate were off by .002 and the longitude off by .003 the error in the coordinate set would be 20.78 feet. The following chart illustrates the distance of error in feet if the coordinates are off from .001 to .009

when going for a cache on a long trail hike in the trail is flat, straight, and the last set of numbers on the handheld gps (example) N36 53.340, and your goal is to get to N36 53.240 can you estimate the distance you have left to walk. any info on these numbers will help as you can see by my question thanks for takng the time

thats the item they discussed, we hunt and train a few dogs, lots of deer around and its not unusal for a late hunt to go sour and then a dog left overnight has a chance of being caught by a pack of coyotes, especialy our smaller beagels. I realize if he runs a deer hes no good but i got to get him back to who left him to train lol.

Not sure if this is old news but our outdoor section of the newspaper had this article today. Garmin is going to market a tracking device small in nature for about 5 miles range, so you can locate your lost pet. I have seen the tracking devices the huntters use, they are rather bulky and only send you back a tone, curious if anyone has any info on what garmin will market along this line

I hunt a lot its not all unusal to find any type of plastic item, with pinpoint holes all about it from where a creature has chewed it, dont think its from just the material it stored This happens on everything from plastic oil bottels dropped by the loggers to clorox bottels, its almost like the animal has a need to preform some type of exercise, as an ex detective at one time I had a dealler who used magnetic key holder's in phone booths and restrooms, when your talking dillaudid or morphine pills, few of us could afford what a magnetic key holder could contain That's right! I've run into four caches that were destroyed by animals. One was a rubbermade type container, and three were small plastic bottles. They were chewed to shreds for some reason. Perhaps they had once contained food or other odorous substance? only four? we must have hungrier animals around here. I certainly understand the reason behind wanting the bug replaced in a few weeks, not a problem, do travel bugs get placed in existing cache's is that permissible or they designed for just new ones? We have some cache's around us that aren't searched for months at a time so the bug is going to be dormant a long time. another quick question when there is a theme involved in a travel bug, do you put a note with your travel bug if you leave it in someone else's cache where you most like to see this bug head to. if it only goes to a new cache then this is a mute point thanks

will map quest use gps coordinates as an aid in locating a near by street to travel to the area where the cache is?

I learned today that by reading through some of the post on a hidden cache it gave away the location, is this typical of a post by a finder, example: the posted log stated " sure cant figure out who would put a phone booth in this spot", so IM assuming when I arrive the phone booth is the obvious place to look for the micro. IM assuming one doesnt read the logged post for this very reason to much info,

I also signed up for a unite for diabetes travel bug and recieved it today. Can anyone tell me how to register it under its number and my name I cant seem to find where to get started with this It's actually activated under an account already. I just grabbed it like I would on a bug I found in a cache. so for sake of not missing something in the rules to follow, if a new bee is hiding his first cache placing this travel bug in it. what do we need to do to make sure the ground speak unite for diabetes guidelines are followed.

Just keep in mind, that when you signed up for this special TB, they requested that you place it within three weeks of receiving it. No I missed that part about placing it with-in 3 weeks but Ill take care of doing that, glad you called it to my attention. ill try and do my "research this week end to get it placed proeprly"

If you have a location that offers a safe pull off with a scenic view, and the instruction gives you directions etc. which list gps coordinates, but also tells the would be searcher there is no log book but he must take a digital camera to take a picture of what he See's then when he gets back and logs his picture. Which proves he was there. I realize he or she hasn't had to pin pointed the exact spot but they have been successful. In the hint section you advise the searcher he needs a digital camera to prove he found the spot, and its a spoiler to read or look at the other logs before he or she finds the spot . Would this qualify on this site for a posting thanks
